Basics of form V - Djem So variant, the Perseverance form basics include: - strength domination - position breaking - attacks deflection join us at www.saberarts.pl support us at / saberartsacademy
A good way to learn this is form is by watching anakin very closely during his fight against obi wan. It’s all about strong counter attacks and keeping a steady flow of strikes
You can also observe this in their training duel in the Obi-wan show. Anakin literally uses a "slash break & counter slash" on Obi-wan. (Refer to the part where Obi-wan is down on his knees and Anakin striking him)
Vaapad was just Djem So, but incoporating the user's mindset of channeling his/her inner darkness. Considering the force does not exist, Vaapad wpuld be impossible for us to truly achieve.
The guy with the purple lightsaber is the last person I want to duel. Apparently he's a master of all 7 lightsaber forms. HE'S TO DANGEROUS TO BE LEFT ALIVE.
My older brother beats me all the time, now I'm studying Djem So and Makashi to kick his ass lol Update: I fought him, and I STILL LOST! Although he was using Jar'Kai and Nimian, and I was mainly using Djem So and Shii Cho. And I lasted alot longer then what I thought I would Edit: Round 3 happened, and I lost again ._. lads this was 2 years ago I've stopped doing lightsaber duels now
Djem So, feels like one of the more impractical forms second to Ataru. As it’s aggressive heavy attacks can leave you open. But at the same time, it’s definitely a powerful form when used correctly. Being able to break through an opponent’s guard with heavy strikes, it’s perfect for pressing the attack against a tired or disoriented opponent.
Actually you favored from four throughout the majority of the clone wars. It wasnt until your transition to Vader where you picked up from five. I'd assume because the mechanical suit didnt allow you to be as flowing as form 4 requires.
I definitely prefer deflections where you actively intercept your opponent's strike. They provide a much wider area to deliver an undefendable counter. But if you screw up and fall for a feint you're pretty much dead. High risk, high reward.
@@FalconWindblader Form V, used by Anakin as a variant, but used in its standard, grounded format as Vader since cybernetics are not as responsive, all while using more of the Force to compensate. Even as Vader, his lightsaber exudes determination even when he lost everything.
@@oceanbytez847 In that same mindset couldn't you use the force to strengthen your defense aswell making it possible to block those strikes? Otherwise if they are hard to block it would not make sense going in for a block anyway
@@oceanbytez847 The issue is that they have no control after the beats. In real swordsmanship, it is actually super easy to just put your blade back in line. There are similar techniques, conceptually, but if you use an over cut like that (the first opening brake thing), to displace your opponent's blade, you don't want to then move your blade over to the other side for a huge lumberjack swing. You would normally want your blade to only move their blade just far enough to control the centre and have their blade just offline enough to not be a threat, you don't need to send their blade flying out to the side. In fact, attempting to do so is really bad, because they'll just dip their blade out of the way, and as your blade goes flying past, they'll just stab you. So, enhancing the power behind the blow still doesn't make it a good idea to hammer your opponent's blade that far out of line, if it takes your blade out of line too. If you wanted a real world equivalent of Djem So, it's early German Longsword. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sMVNKpHTY5A.html
I think this form suits me better. Simple attack breaks and counters and simple stance. I think Shii Cho, i'll use when needed, Makashi is just too fast for me to be in, Soresu has that hand motion and i can't keep up, and Ataru is just too demanding for me to be in. This form, i found peace. Just need strength to be un but it's fine. Thanks.
@@chelonianegghead274 Longsword is two handed. Makashi is a one handed dueling form inspired by fencing (foil, épée etc) Also, this form looks like it's based on Kenjutsu, not Kendo. The fictional lightsaber forms from Star Wars were mostly inspired by asian martial arts but all sword fighting styles share much in common, so some of the strikes and parries are similar to those used in HEMA.
Form 5 would probably be most effective on form 2 as it is often used with 1 hand so the power of form 5 would easily break the defences of a form 2 practitioner
Form 2 would have to rely on deception and footwork. Let them swing through a blade that is no longer there when they are setting up a strike then move in
It is heavily reminiscent on samurai sword movements, whatever Lucas did with Vader's aggressive style has strong influences coming from Akira Kurosawa.
Isn't there a move in Djem-So called the "Falling Avalanche", where you're raining repeated overhand strikes on your opponent to break through their guard?
@Snyder The Star Wars Fan 2008 No that was a grapple move. Falling Avalanche is a chain of heavy, overhead strikes meant to break through your opponent's guard.
Thank you! Thank you for being like the only people on youtube who actually know how to fucking swing a lightsaber correctly. you have no idea how many idiots i see using it like a fencing foil. like, no brah, its use is based off of the katana and kendo. thank you guys for being some of the few lightsaber duelists on youtube that actually know what the fuck they're doing.
You can't though. Form VI is just a very watered down version of the previous 5 & incorporates heavy use of force powers, while Form VII is more a state of mind thing than actual combat moves, which necessitates channeling of dark side of the force. Since none of us could actually use force powers here, you can't truly have tutorials for those 2.
Yes, to compensate for his lack of mobility, Vader sticks to the basics of Djem So and focuses on power strikes and overwhelming strength to defeat his opponents.
I think the reason soresu works so well to counter djem so is because of the economy of movement. I firmly believe regardless of tactical advantage, Obi-Wan was just so adept at the style anakin would have worn himself out.
i have been using this style for so long and i just realized it. i like using power jumps cause i have a abnormally high jump lol (btw i use a double bladed saber)
Though this tutorial captures adequately the disruptive side of Form V, the turning of one's momentum against oneself remains in obscurity. I suppose some studies for Djem So exemplars would be Anakin's or Malgus's styles.
I'm currently focused on Soresu, but I think I'll need this if I want to win something. Soresu is cool, since I'm not that aggressive, but being able to wrench someone's saber away is pretty neat
@@Blackplague689 try practicing form 3 (soresu) . It's not very tiring and it's easier to learn and master compare to the other forms (at least in my opinion)
@@then00brathalos I spent 2 years master Form 5, so now am pretty much unstoppable with it (mainly because my opponents still new to lightsaber dueling)
I have mastered the form of djem so but I wouldn't be a master without this video showing me the basics I can't wait to kill my compation (a shii cho expert) and their padawans(some 9 years old kids) yes I'm a sith lord
I love the emphasis on power blows in your interpretation of djem so. While I think the medieval longsword influences are certainly a part of the charm of Form V, I think a lot of them get caught up in the mechanics of the bind that they forget the signature of form V is the overwhelming force of it's blows. I'm curious though, where does the strength of the blows come from in your interpretation of Djem So. the Core? the arms? the shoulders?
strength and power comes from the Center (of body mass) that falls down with the sword - but everything needs to be stiff in the short moment of contact for a good transmission of the foce : ]
Longsword? The hecc, no! Longsword is most similar to form VI, as it has balanced offence and defence in master cuts, and it is most popular HEMA weapon/style. Form V is more similar to kenjutsu and aiki bokken/aiki ken - there are some powerful deflections here and maintaining the pressure.
They say that Kylo uses this style, but he's SO BAD AT IT. Why does he carry his sword behind him all the time? He's just sloppy and heavy-handed and people call that Djem So.
Just do German longsword, it more or less has the same focus as this form (and Anakin even uses a few of its moves) but it’s more grounded in actual martial arts and there’s a pretty lively competitive scene internationally
1:35 After that, cut of the right hand of your opponent [make sure they scream] and tell them that you are their father; and make sure they scream "THAT'S NOT TRUE, THATS IMPOSSIBLE" and "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" in the end :)
I’m using Soresu as my style, becausing it’s not very aggressive, which I like, as a not very aggressive person, but I can’t think of a way to finish someone off with Soresu, so… I’ll probably use this at the end of a fight. Ty! :)
Not only do I like this because not only Anakin had used this but, I had always felt that form 5 djem so and shien were both superior to other forms. Not only that but the forms is actually similar to how Templar knights back then learned how to sword fight.
I think if I were a Jedi I would try to master all forms, but probably prioritise 4,5 and 3 as well as 2 to revert to when I am tired and or the duel is going for a long time
So I am using this form. Though whats different is that I am using two reverse-grip lightsabers. I always keep my left one behind to trick my enemy. I start off with a regular reverse grip fight. My second left saber stays behind me. Then, when we do that long lightsaber clash and we try to knock the lightsaber out of the enemy’s hand, i use the second saber to make an unexpected slash into the stomach.
I thought the stance at the beginning was for Ataru. It's what Qui Gon, Yoda, and Obi Wan (in Rebels) all use as their opening guard, but it's completely missing from your Ataru video, and is presented here. Could you clarify for me?
