Good explanation of the basics, but I wish there were an easier way to do ease-in and ease-out in Lightworks. Trying to use the graphs usually doesn't work well, what I do is put in an extra keyframe near beginning and end of zoom to slow down the rate briefly just after beginning and just before end, but would be nice if it were automated as it is in PIP effect in Avid!

if you want to zoom in on an object which is not stationary then use the keyframe technique
@techismad
@techismad 4 года назад
Absolutely - you have to use some keyframes to aim your zoom in the correct places at regular times. Lightworks doesn't have automatic tracking so you have to do it "old school"
@AryanKumar-jo1pz
@AryanKumar-jo1pz 4 года назад
@@techismad I tried to do it and I don't think I know how to do it properly cause when I zoom in at position A then at position B, it would either start zooming out after A or stay at A and not go to B. Over that, I am not able to find any video which teaches to use keyframes.

That's true but sometimes it's tricky. I've found so remembering x and y are 0.5 and master is 1.0 is quicker and less finicky. Sometimes the mouse is naughty you know. LOL That is a great thought and does help to click on the middle dot to return to default.

Thank you for this great tutorial! I am still having a difficult time. Is it not possible to change the keyframes and the clocks after you have set them? I can't figure out how to modify any of these settings. If I don't like how the zoom looks after I've set the keyframe and the clocks I have to delete the DVE and drop it in again and set the parameters anew. Is there some way to modify the parameters to tweak them until I like them without having to remove the DVE and drop it again each time? Thanks!
@chesterules
@chesterules 5 лет назад
Lightworks doesn't seem to have very good undo capabilities. I somehow borked my project after 6 hours of working on it and now I have to start over because Lightworks does not have a save or save as option. Autosave is the worst modern "feature". There's a reason software companies never had autosave for decades and it's not because no one thought of it; it's because they realized back in the '80s that it's a dumb idea. /facepalm. The whole point of saving a project is so that you can then experiment on it and if you mess up, you can just load the last good save. Autosaving ruins this and means messing up requires starting over from scratch.
@techismad
@techismad 5 лет назад
You can definitely tweak a zoom or any other DVE that you put into a timeline. Simply click on the graph tab when your adding your key frames, and you’ll be able to adjust the time and amount of the effect.

Hi .. Love the vids. So so helpful. My biggest question is work flow .. Once you have a series if clips what order should we apply fades between .. add dvi and colour corrections .. it seems if effects are unfolded there are things that dont show on other video tracks. A do it in this order guide would be invaluable. :) Thanks in advance.
@techismad
@techismad 6 лет назад
The way I would work is: Import and rename (if there's lots of clips) Mark in and outs of everything (make subclips if you need to) Put everything into the timeline and fine tune your cuts - including any audio you have Now apply your DVE's, transitions, and colour corrections as you need to Here is where you pay attention to the effect the DVE's are having on your movie - does it affect the timing of the clips to the soundtrack? My own problem is getting obsessed with one fade or one effect and wasting an hour trying to get some effect to work. I have to realise that 99% of people won't actually see something that I've spent all that time on and think it's cool! Remember

Can you increase/decrease the speed at which the frame zooms in and out?
@taxpants
@taxpants 5 лет назад
If you use fewer total frames to zoom in, the effect will appear faster. If you use more frames to zoom in, the effect will appear slower - takes more time to zoom in total. Hope that helps!

Ive just started to use Lightworks and your videos have the best tutorials. Im sorry for the stupid questions that Im about to ask... I just dont get the part about the "1" and ""0.5". Do those numbers mean the size? How did you come up with "0.5" as opposed to a different number? Again apologies for the very noob questions. Thanks for the videos
@techismad
@techismad 3 года назад
No need to apologise - For the zoom 1 means the size of the screen. 0.5 means half the size of the screen.
