I hope this guy knows how envious all us dirty auto technicians are of his clean box clean tools clean work 🤣. Also I have to tell you this has quickly become my favorite RU-vid channel over the past few weeks. You have figured out the perfect niche for us tool and toolbox afficionados going around and touring many different tech's boxes. I haven't seen any other channel do it that way and it's genius. Very cool. Keep up the great videos and thank you!

I've done both, and aviation is cleaner, but when it's dirty it's worse. Almost everything on aircraft is super cancerous, and a lot of it is caustic/acidic and is actively harmful to you. But, automotive is way dirty for sure (and I work in heavy duty diesel, and that's even messier!)

I was on a job at Boeing Everett a few years ago when they were super busy and my jaw dropped when I saw a 18wheeler unload a dozen huge Snap-On boxes. My ‘minder’ was a tech there and said the boxes were preloaded with specific tools, all barcodes and shadow foam to prevent FOD. The boxes had a keypad to unlock them. Probably $70k each in street money.
@ToolBoxTour
@ToolBoxTour Год назад
😦 wow! I’d love to do a tour on one of those!
@OmarEwert
@OmarEwert Год назад
More than $70k probably. The boxes without the keypads and cameras are that much. But it’s nice because every cutout has the part number of the tool and every tool is etched with something custom. Usually a toolbox number. But SnapOn doesn’t sell them for retail, each sale is unique
@olivertaylor4779
@olivertaylor4779 Год назад
If they were specific tools for an aircraft I bet the tools were more than 70k, special auto tools are expensive, I don't want to think how much special aircraft tools are, did they have one box per make of plane.

@@ToolBoxTour Its pretty incredible. I work for the DoD, watching the Boeing travel guys come out is pretty impressive. They load everything they could possibly need. They leave everything behind thats not tools too so the locals love it when they get called in. Replenishes a lot of supplies. Fod control is crazy tight with their boxes, thats why they wont just use our boxes even though we have everything they could need. Their FOD program is so tight that way if fod is found after they left is almost certainly not their fault.

It’s kinda crazy but aviation mechanics are a breed all their own. My eldest boy is good friends with a guy who’s dad is a helicopter mechanic and man o man his garage and home SnapOn tool chest are amazing! Massive. Every tool imaginable and those were his home units, not his shop on site rolling tool chest. He has or had, died from lung cancer few yrs back but he had i believe 4 or 5 large long Snapon at his aviation hangers he worked out of. 10’s of thousands in tools. Probably close to 150 grand in SnapOn. The man was a wizard and so smart when it came to engines, all engines. But his personal home rolling tool chest looked like this dudes. Always blew my mind. When I would compliment him he was always so humble and nice but he’d say “Victor this is nothing, you would love my lifetime collection for work In the hangers”. He had been at it since the 70’s. Such a good man. Very sad that smoking cigarettes and drinking home brewed beer took him in his prime, he was 56. Young. Such a wealth of knowledge. His only boy, Cam has his dads lifetime collection and it’s insane. Cams boys will be using those tools and Kevin’s great grandsons. Very cool. It’s wild but these guys leave a massive amount of money to their boys in tools alone when the inevitable shows up. Such a cool tour of this man’s tools. Everybody just imagine the knowledge this man has built up. Amazing. I could watch these videos for days and never get bored. 🤩🙌🙌❤️❤️🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

When I ran a USAF F-16 Inspection Section I got to assemble exactly what we needed. My Lista rep (fantastic company who can outfit your entire shop with cabinets and storage) worked with our excellent (not every rep is and quality varies!) Snap-on rep to get our Lista boxes with laser cut foam for mostly Snap-on but a variety of other tools they don't produce. Much love for Snap-on boxes but if I hit the lottery I'd go pure Lista for every box and cabinet. They're top tier such that at least one company buys nearly all of them that come up used at auction in my area to overhaul!

A&P school isn’t bad at all, you can go to a part 147 school or do on the job and then test after a certain number of hours
@buttfingerblaster
@buttfingerblaster Год назад
If you want to do it, now is the best time to get in the industry. The mechanic shortage is as bad/worse than the pilot shortage. Check your area for any community colleges that offer a program. That’s what I’m doing. There’s also dedicated places, with the downside being more expensive. And as the other person commented, see if there’s an airport somewhere with a mechanic or a repair station that who’d be willing to train you. If you go the job route, you need 1800 hours and document the experience (basic sign offs saying you did “x” job) and then to test. A school is typically about 12-18months and some will even pay for testing

I hate that there are 2 different standards for tools. I'm on the opposite spectrum and work on Japanese vehicles where everything is metric. SAE always seemed to confuse me.

Same! I rarely use SAE unless I’m cracking a brake bleeder screw open or something.

no torque wrench?

In aviation all torque wrenches are calibrated items. The shop you are in is responsible for providing them with the calibration date/serial stickered on it. Its a huge no no to use an uncalibrated tool and would be a violation in the eyes of the FAA.

Ive never seen an aircraft tech not have countersink cages, rivet gun. Rivet sets, pneumatic squeezes, cherrymax gun, die grinders, 90deg angle drills, clecos, etc etc, etc.. where is all that?.

I thought aviation mechanics had to have everything foamed so you don't leave a tool behind? I must be ignorant here.

That makes two of us. I’m guessing it’s different business to business? I know forsure the military requires shadow foam and every tool has to be accounted for before the plane can leave the ground. Thanks for watching Mike!

You are right with most places, its a bit unnerving to me seeing that many unshadowed tools but to each their own, all of mine are shadowed and engraved with my initials and a four digit number, and each location is numbered so anyone could look at my tool sheet and tell what tool belongs where, (this is all required by my employer) some places require a pre and post shift sign off to insure all your tools are accounted for, (also required where i work) its great for doing quick inventory of your box but it kills a lot of drawer space

Great tour, but the music is repetitive to the point of being irritating.
