A very honest and touching reaction to this magical performance in a majestic setting on the Aurlands Fjord in Norway. The song title translates as "Spellbound". Eivor learned the throat singing from an Inuit lady.
She is really doing all those crazy, almost inhuman sounds herself. I've seen her live twice, and she is even more magical experienced live. She has bunch of other cool songs too, with modern sounds. Her voice without a doubt is one of the best and unique voices I have ever heard.
The Faroe Islands are a North Atlantic archipelago part of the Kingdom of Demark located about halfway between Norway and Iceland and North West of Scotland. Norsemen settled the islands c. 800 bringing in Old Norse which evolved into Faroese language. These people actually came from areas of Ireland and Scotland settled by Scandinavians who brought their Irish etc. wives with them. This is admittedly a bit based on scant info .. was a long time ago after all but makes for fun info. The Faroese language then is considered to the closest we have to what Old Norse would have sounded like. The video was shot in Norway but she is singing in Faroese.
Try Eivor 'Falling Free" live in Thornshavn! :) It is a bit more contemporary and rock - but sooo many people have said - it is so meditative and hauntingly beautiful! :)
