Edmonton, AB early Rock & Roll: Davey & the Drastiks - 'Forever' and 'Mohair Sam'
The song 'Forever' was written and performed by Dave Peters (Davey and the Drastiks) on CFRN TV's Club 3, local music program in late 1965. 'Forever' is a ballad with a haunting melody-hook that could have placed high on Canadian music charts with a little more production and promotion. The stunning double-track by Peters in this song clearly demonstrates the talent of Alberta musicians with Peters' voice strong enough to cause noticeable overload of the Sennheiser microphones.
The versions of 'Forever' and 'Mohair Sam' excel with the backing of Edmonton guitarist, Bob Clarke. Early in his career, Clarke admired and studied the techniques of U.S. session guitarist James Burton (backup for Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Rick Nelson) and many Canadian musicians ultimately felt that Clarke represented 'Canada's version of James Burton'. Clarke was also the power-house guitar backing behind Barry Allen, Wes Dakus and the Rebels. Sadly, we lost Bob in December of 1998. This video along with others from RU-vid members RockolaFlashback, dwayneosepchuk, and Bob Walker will help endure Bob's legacy.
