@Patrick Danielson @Patrick Danielson he was breaking down Houston culture and the "traditions" passed down from the OG's. this isnt a moral or ethical, what's right vs wrong question. nor does one have to be a lean sipper, or gold teeth rocking individual to understand ones culture and traditions. if you look at the "Bluesman" there were certain identifiable traits that made them what they were, (their experience, their story, their culture, mad liquor smokes or whatever the vice was of that time) and the "traditions" of a said bluesman. though the drug may be different from that time til now, the way in which those "traditions" are passed down, recycled and repeated is consistent within our musical and life experiences.

Originally being brought up near Memphis, TN (in Tipton County) but first knew Houston as a kid, Lil Flip was one of the most fav. artists. I just about had all of his songs and played his "Rollin' On 20s" song to the max. My sister closest to me and I bought the album and played the jams just about every day until it got tiring. Lil Flip did many things as a solo artist and represented Houston at a very high level.

A lot of people that aren’t from Houston may listen to Flip’s music and not think much of it. But what they won’t know is how talented of a freestyle artist he was. Freestyling was the norm on screw tapes back in the day. Guys like Lil Keke and Big Pokey were killing it on the freestyles. Then out of nowhere came this young dude named Lil Flip who started destroying every freestyle he jumped on. That’s how he got respect in the city. Then it grew from there. He’s come a very long way from those days to the businessman he’s become today. Much respect to Flip man.

People forget how big Flip really was. After Scarface, he was THE rapper from Houston. Before Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, and H-Town went mainstream, Flip was that dude. He was on everybody's albums and mixtapes from Ludacris, Nelly, Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Diplomats, G-Unit, Young Buck, David Banner, Ruff Ryders, Three 6 Mafia, Mario Winans, Kelly Rowland, Beyonce... First down south dude really showing up on NY mixtapes like Kay Slay, DJ Clue, and Whoo Kid. First down south dude on Smack DVD. But then people thought they had to choose between Flip and T.I. and the game did him dirty. And T.I. kept taking shots at Flip even after the J. Prince sitdown on "What U Know" But fire your sound dude(if you even have one). They got the mic pointed at the table.

Man I was a huge fan of Flip back when I was 15 when Underground Legend first dropped back in 2002. I was bumping that album during my freshmen year of high school. Flip pretty much still looks the same which is good to see. Every now and then I when i'm feeling it I will still go back and play that album. I can pretty much recite that album front to back dam near. Good to see Flip out here still moving.
