A weekend update. Lillie is doing "ok" and the puppies appear to be doing well. Lillie is hyper-reactive and very anxious, and the puppies have added to her stress. She is not eating well, perhaps a food allergy or just stress. We are trying different foods and supplementing her with canned food. We have decided to NOT breed her again. She wasn't properly socialized, and we feel this is adding to her anxiety with the puppies.
Our doe is looking better. We haven't observed her eating however she is chewing her cud and is much more alert and her swelling and soreness is gone. We will continue her B vitamin injections and her propylene glycol drenches until we are sure she is eating. She is due with twins the end of February.
We cleaned out the paddock again and there is still quite a bit of snow. We ultrasound the second group of ewes February 1st so we wanted to clean the paddock prior to that task.
I broke the glass on the right door of the cab of the tractor! I was changing the bucket on the loader and was concentrating on lining it up and had the door open so I could see better. I forgot how close I was to the barn door and broke the glass. We will order a new one Monday. There's always something new and exciting on the farm. Thank you for joining us at Norwal Farm.

I have a Full size Golden Doodle and when I bred her she loved eggs and yogurt you can scramble the eggs and mix in the egg shells then mix with the yogurt. She loved that and it gave her tons of protein and calcium. I gave that to her twice a day for the first week or so to keep her eating she had 9 pups the first time. I also fed her Fromm's dog food. It is made in Wisconsin Large breed Puppy the whole time she nursed and also fed it to the puppies when we weaned them.

Thanks for the idea! We have tried a number of foods and table foods. She eats them for a while and then doesn't. We will keep at it; she is a sweet girl.

Poor Lillie, she's a nervous new mama! With her already being an anxious dog, adding the birth, which she had no idea what was happening, then all those puppies to mother, her behavior isn't much of a surprise. Is it not an option to separate her from the other dogs until she has her confidence up? Bless her, she's too concerned with all the changes to even meet her own needs. I think given time she may be just fine to have another litter. Sorry to hear you had a mishap with the tractor!! Hopefully you can get a replacement before anymore storms hit. That big hole in the cab probably defeats the purpose of having a heated cab!😂😆 Seriously though, just glad the window was the only thing hurt! Thanks for sharing your day and stay safe!!🙏❤

She has come a long way. Separating her from the other dogs, and especially the flock, just increases her anxiety. She is bonded to her sheep and goats and putting her by herself with the puppies would only increase her anxiety. We confined her in a kennel, in the shed next to the sheep, during her first heat cycle and she was really stressed out. She is happiest being a guardian, out with her flock/herd. We plan to keep a male and a female puppy and will have them socialized and leash trained. We then will breed the female in another 2 years when we will be needing back up guardians here. Lillie will be best to focus on her sheep and goats. We will get through this and then let her concentrate on what she loves to do. About the tractor, too bad it's not summer, better ventilation LOL!
