The tragedy that befell on all parties involved (but most of all the officer’s family) is just symptomatic of the complete failure of the so-called “war on drugs”. When you are sick, for whatever reason, you have a disease and society and the judicial system should realised that and treat it accordingly. Imagine a diabetic who has to hustle in order to get his/her insulin. You might say “it is not the same thing”, and I would answer: “as no one pointed a gun to the addict in order to start taking drugs, no one pointed a gun to the diabetic in order to stuff his/her face with cakes and processed sugar. So, yeah, it could be argued it is the same thing, even though I have to exclude from this the type of diabetes that is not caused by over-indulgence”. So, why keep criminalising the addicts? Why not pursue a policy of harm reduction? Prisons, especially now that have been privatised, are big big business. Every single prisoner cost the state 24.000 dollars a year. It is a merry-go-round where everyone gets a slice of this particularly succulent pie. And millions of families continue to suffer, not only because of the addiction of one of their members, but because of all the consequences of having to commit crimes simply to stay normal and not to get sick. The answer is simple: give heroin to the doctors, specialised in addiction. The addicts gets registered, so that it appears on his record, and the doctors determines how much heroin he/she needs daily, and then he/she goes to a specific centre or a pharmacy to get his/her daily dose, under medical supervision. But it is still a pipe dream. Governments still prefer to chuck people in prison rather than deal with addiction pragmatically and give addicts their lives back (it has bee proven in pilot studies that when you remove the illegality and the veneer of rebellion from the drug-taking, and scoring becomes as boring and mondane as a visit to your GP, guess what happen? 48% of addicts actually decide to get off heroin on their own free will).

I'm not defending his actions by no means, however when someone is an addict and they are dope sick,,, it is complete torture. It physically feels like death. Like you are dying by pure agony. 8 years and he did his time. He shouldn't have to keep re living this bullshit. Let the man move on and make a living and live his life.

This whole story is an absolute tragedy. My heart goes out to the officer's family and my heart also goes out to Lillo. No one knows another's demons, what goes on inside someone else's head. I pray this man can continue on with a sober and righteous path, helping and inspiring others using this story. Wow. God bless everyone in this situation. Addiction is so powerful and no one person handles it the same. I'm so sad!

People say he doesn't deserve a second chance, but he is living with punishment everyday, in a sense where that night will always haunt him. Plus, the off duty Police officer shot him while he was walking away. I am not taking away that he was absolutely stupid, but he did his time so let him get on with his life.

You listen to some people's logic, individuals who use drugs is a victimless crime that's why it should be legalized. No one accounts that addicts do bad things to keep their drug use going. Unless legalization of drugs also means free drugs for everyone. And even then addicts are a danger because they have families they're intoxicated around. Lillo was a great talent but he wasted like so many do when they choose to do drugs.

Wow. I really admire him for doing this. He's very well spoken and sincere when he speaks. He doesn't come off as "Yeah, it happened, whatever, time to let it go already." He seems legit like, "I was sick, I had a seriously problem and I messed up. I made bad choices that ended in tragedy and with me almost losing my own life. I'm sorry for the part I played, I did my time, now I'm ready to share my lesson with others so they don't end up like me and I want to move on with my life in a positive direction." Much respect to him.

He made a mistake - got involved with drugs (he already had the problem even when he was acting in the Sopranos and in another interview he said how Gandolfini himself recommended a detox program; Gandolfini was really supportive even towards people who had small roles in the series) - he paid for his mistake and he has the right for another chance. I hope he uses it the best he's able.

I’d like to see him eventually forgiven and his life and career to move forward in a positive way.(But) first its gonna take admittance and acceptance. I understand there’s a lot of repentance on the surface of things but the whole “I didn’t know” and “I didn’t see it” or “I wasn’t looking” it’s just getting him nowhere! I’d rather hear him say I did an indefensible thing because I was an addict. He needs to understand that what he felt his first night in prison and the guilt and hardships he’d endure for years later was just minor compared to what the friends, colleagues and family felt towards the deceased officer. A Bronx tale is one of my all time favorite movies and a lot of the characters in the film went on to establish exciting careers after the film! I hope Lilo gets his ultimate second chance but first his story is gonna have to be rewritten and retold. After all the only thing worse than wasted talent is the loss of a very worthy man!

I have to honest, it sounds as if one possible scenario is some off duty cowboy came out and started shooting on an attempted breaking and entering, which is ill-advised. In that case this guy shouldn't have went to prison for that long, or carry this weight in public opinion. The other scenario is the friend started shooting right away when he said "freeze" and then cop responded with fire, in which case maybe he should've gotten more time. IDK, nobody really will.

Probably one of the best interviews I ever seen. Look I don’t think anyone who has followed this case can say Lillo has one ounce of malice or lacks remorse. I believe everything thing he’s said. He went to that apartment for one reason only, at that time he had a substantial amount in the bank so going there for anything but drugs is t true.

I have to say as a retired NYC police officer who did 20 years in the Bronx n was one of the first officers on the scene that night I have to tell you when I saw this guy was on your show I was done with watching your channel... But I did listen to the interview n I appreciate you didn't go easy on him. I will never forget that night n what I saw n I can't forgive him for his role in DET Enchachucatte death n think he should still be In prison. Also he was not honest with you cause he did know Steven had the gun cause they went to a strip club before the incident n he had Lilo use his name at the door so they didn't get searched. I just wanted to say thank you for not giving him a pass n being professional.

I saw the 2005 news about him and Chazz said that the sky was the limit for Lilo. Chazz even said at one point in the interview I hope we are not giving me too much stardom or something because Chazz felt afraid for him. He could have been the next Leonardo DeCaprio is what Chazz had said in that 2005 interview.
