I'm mexican and I relate to her videos sooo much! She is able to reach the audience of most people raise in households of traditional ethnic cultures. I can't move out until I am married... if I move out before then, I will be disowned. just "Dehnt Doo Eht"
I love this interview of Lilly. We got to see a different side of her that we don't normally get to see with her vids. She seems so cool and intelligent.
I think lilly is great, funny and just awesome! The only thing I wish she would stop doing is trash talking her education or the uni she went to. Alot of young viewers will get the wrong idea. Paying money for an education is never a waste, there are many people out there who would love for the opportunity to go to uni or college who don't get to. I know it's a joke n everything but its perception... you can never have too much knowledge whether you use it or not.
She didn't trash talk the education or uni themselves, she moaned about teachers & people that may be there which isn't wrong seeing as many would think the same anyway & at the end she does say "Just kidding!" Stay in school, it's for the best or something along those lines. :)
GURUNATHAN PRAPAHARAN I know she's joking but there's alot of young viewers who might start to think that there's no need for school. I know it's a joke n that's cool. She is totally amazing!!
angel830 i don't think she's really trash talking the education, moreover the system is corrupt. She says something along the lines of "parking was expensive" Furthermore, an undergrad in psychology looks good on paper, but you cant do much with it in Canada. In general, Canadian universities are private therefore they are essentially financial institutions more than they are providers of education, # WeNeedPublicUniversities aka free post secondary ^_^
Manisha K Our education system is public (the government and us taxpayers pay a LOT as in hundreds of millions to even billions if we wanna start talking about UofT's edowment) but we do still need to pay tuition. Private university would cost much more, which is why all the ivy league schools (even your average school in america) are so expensive. But I see your point, in a lot of European countries there is no tuition and i think that's something Canada should follow suit with!
Lilly is such an inspiring person. She got what she deserved. She will always be my favorite person since she is very honest as a person and tells people the right thing to do in her own way which makes her unique
the cool thing about internet people beginning to get respect now as legitimate entertainers was inevitable and people like lily on this show, philly d going on the jre podcast, and casper lee interviewing mainstream people it is cool to see.
I love this interview cus she talks about paternal and traditional families, and the fact that she stills live with her parents, and she says it so normal; it's big for those (like me recently) who are living still with parents.
This was a Great segment Jian, you truly have the best job ever, and you do it with such class! :) I love your show, guests and your ability to properly question them while still allowing them to feel that Canadian Comfort in Studio Q :) mostly though, for giving them the necessary time for that answer that's just right for them! I Love It :) Thanks J.
It's actually a regional accent from Southern Ontario, mostly with people from Toronto and nearby towns'cities (such as Scarborough, where she grew up). I will agree that it does sound a little like an Indian accent though, with a bit of the typical Canadian accent and a Jamaican accent mixed in there. It's quite unique.
+Colin Evans she has an Indian drawl to her voice it's clear that if you spoke her without even seeing who she was you could tell it's a south Asian woman speaking
Hello Lilly Singh, Salute to you and your good parents who inculcated in you the rich Indian traditions of loving daughters living with their parents and leave their home only when they get married. Keep it up.
she is very smart... I still think you should go for your masters superwoman. I can't wait to start my masters. I just cant but one love superwoman its a wrap and .....
I think it's cool to make humor with cultural differences/accents as long as there's still respect. We have to learn to celebrate our differences in addition to our similarities.
eh last 30 seconds is awkward 'revealed all of your biases and now you have to backtrack' (epileptic blinking fit @ 4:17 when she realizes ) phase, but the rest was great! Indian relatives showing mass love only when she becomes successful : gives more credence to when Nietzsche said everything is derived from its antithesis.
Drive taxis? What that's no stereotype lol all Indians where I live own businesses and drive rolls royces and have 10,000 square foot homes. Geez there smart and rich lol. Asians smart to. Indians just floss there money more it seems.
+DreamGyrl360 so if i would do my white friends hair and ask her what she wants me to do and she sais " i really like your hair can you do that for me" but i have dreadlocks. should i scream at her that its rude because she's white !?
I mean don't scream but for some reason white people with locs don't bother me. :-/ But they DO bother SOME people so I'd WARN HER that PROBABLY someone who's NOT Dreamgryl360 might be upset about her CLEAR appropriation of black Rastafarian culture!! Then give her a lesson on Rastafarianism and the history of locs.
natasha suresh parents shouldn't care what people think or their social standing in their community. they should set a good example o their kids so their kids don't care too much what others think. There is only one opinion that is important and that's God's, the rest is just chit chat
I Love You The Indian cultures is very different, especially when compared to American customs. Can't just blindly say "they shouldn't care" or "they should just allow her to live by herself" because there's a whole different world out there who sees things differently than you.
Lilly and anyone who is urban, can speak in a relaxed (urban) tone with friends, and then in formal standard English in business settings. It's called "Code Switching." We're all multi-talented.
