Kora did one heck of a job and thanks for giving her some water to drink while she was on the job. Nice shooting as well. You will remember days like this when you get older and realize you and Kora did it right. Can't wait to see the next one!
I have never dove hunted Before. This weekend will be my first time, EVER! To see what you did and the decoys that you used, and the excitement, only feeds my excitement and I have to admit, a little anxiety, (Not the snowflake anxiety, LOL), but the good nervousness/excitement. Thank you for sharing this hunt.
Most videos of sunflower field hunting Ive seen cut more rows and more bare areas for the dove to walk and pick seeds off the ground …. I bet next year you’ll have a lot more birds …pretty cool field you got there
Excellent shooting. Enjoyed watching your dog work, continue being patient with her. Youve put in the work training her, now let experience do its job. Good luck this season.
Labor Day weekend ND update Weather was extremely hot 🥵 but Saturday birds decoyed well but Sunday birds wanted to land in standing brown sunflowers not a cut wheat field and Monday birds short stopped a lot wanting cut wheat field but had no interest in the dove mojos All three days were different hunts same property but different conditions each day. Saw the best numbers on windy and overcast weather. We had packs of pigeons decoying repeatedly to the mojo decoys 13 pigeons downed over the long weekend. We made poppers, deep fried and grilled doves everyone favorite were the poppers of course Great video
Great job Kora! She did a heck of a job finding those birds in the thick cover, she has a lot of potential and is already a good dog, and great shooting man!
So that is the same # 3 band size they use for Timberdootles. Glad you reported them and it will please the bander. 10% thumbs up is a well like video you have done
Nice work Man. Sunflowers are one of my favorite fields to hunt over. Your spot is the perfect place for a man and his dog. Looking forward to seeing some more!
What a great video. Awesome hot field. Your hard work paid off. The shooting was first class. However Kora stole the show. You have an awesome bird finder there. Very impressed. Thank you for sharing this with us. Congrats on the 2 banded birds.
Good job! I think your dog did exceptionally well considering how thick it was where some of your birds fell! We shot one year over cotton about waist high and if you didn't go straight to the bird, you could forget it! Kudos on the bands! From Sophia, N.C.
Great video, loved to see your excitement after all the hard work you’ve put into that field. Kora is looking good, congrats on the great first hunt man!
Remember she is still a baby basically. She seems to be doing great and having a great time. Enjoy the time with her because it goes by way faster than you think.
This is my 2nd year hunting dove and last season I didn't get any Got 3 doves so far and the 2nd one I shot was banded. Checked it in online and got a certificate. Pretty sweet
We finally got a break from this miserable heat over Labor Day weekend duck numbers looking good in ND but all the land owners are going to eposting their land word got out. If you don’t have onX and planning a trip to ND your going to be disappointed the entire state of North Dakota is gone red boys do your homework and some WMAs are dry in some places this year in Grand Forks, ND so have a backup plan B C and D. We have a RU-vidr having a tough time finding places to film content out here and he is a local. 😢😢
Very exciting and great work Kora!! I can't wait to see tomorrow's video. I titled my opening day video A Comedy of Errors because what ever could go wrong did go wrong. It looks like this shoot went quite well for you. Congrats on the shoot and the banded birds too.
I also have a banded dove video on my RU-vid channel as well I have never seen another one before mine cool to see your personal dove field turn out so good
That recipe is great, but I think this recipe below is absolutly amazing. TRUST Instead of plain ol cream cheese, you make “crack dip” to stuff the poppers 1lb ground sausage. 2 boxes cream cheese. 1 can of rotel (I like hot). Brown susage over medium heat then add creamcheese & rotel. I like to add some louisiana hot sauce and chilly powder after its mixed. Then stuff you’re jalopenos with the crack dip as you would with just creamcheese. The excess dip is a great appitizer with chips. I make these poppers even without dove. Give it a try I promise its a gamechanger. Show less
Josh You put our shooting to shame I think you only missed once. I don’t think I’m leading the birds enough but I’m not an avid bird gun hunter either. Watching the shotgun cam is really helping me think more about my shooting and really I’m just practicing on doves to get ready for 2023 duck season in North Dakota because last year was my first duck season at 52 yrs of age and now I’m hooked for life Early Goose has been rough so far with limited birds moving cut wheat fields daily hard to pattern a flock but 3x the scouting 1x the hunting Already been skunked once roosted the birds for them not to show up on the same field the next day but enjoyed the ducks decoying to our goose spread we getting in the reps fired up for duck season 2023 Let’s go
Thinning out the cover may help. I can remember the first year hunting with my dog on Doves. He retrieved the first couple, but after that, he would go out and just pee on them. He loves hunting and retrieving quail, but dove feathers built up in his mouth, and he didn't like that. Now, he is a dove-retrieving fool. I hunt public, and so many times, I get hunters asking us to find their birds lost in heavy cover. With so much shooting, I actually put hearing protection on my dog. He appreciates that. I have to pull them off before he retrieves them, so I usually wait for a lull in the shooting before sending him on retrieves. He marks 5 or 6 at a time.
Me and my dad killed 4 banded dove in the same group we called the number and they were all banded at the same time from the same place. It’s super cool, that was 12 years ago but I haven’t seen a band since and I have killed hundreds
Kora did great, I've had problems with younger dogs doing similar things. the dove feathers get in their mouth and they want to spit everything out. They figure it out with enough practice.
As you continue to work with Kora, hunting and in the yard, you need to clean up her delivery to hand. You have the tools in place, but you’re not holding her to a high enough standard. She needs to get a correct (low level stim on e collar) for dropping. It’s a failure to “hold”. Also shouldn’t have to command more than once on “fetch”. Great job with her but raise your standards and she’ll be better for it.
For dove hunters, just getting 1 band in their lifetime is the Holy Grail. To get two in one hunt? Are you kidding me? That is incredible! On your own field that you made yourself with your dog you trained yourself, who did a great job! Give your self several pats on the back! You killed it! Well done! I was lucky enough to shoot a banded Dove 6 years ago. I can't wait for the Opener this year! LET'S GO!!!
We pranked a hunting buddy by using tin foil to make a fake band to send to the group chat he wasn’t fooled but we all had a good laugh Everyone in the group enjoyed this video many good tips learned in this video we can apply to our next hunt for sure
How many acres was your field? I always want to plant a dove plot but im afraid all the deer in my area will have sunflowers ate before they ever mature. Unless i do a large plot
