I think this is the scene that won me over regarding Lin. It's clear that she cares a great deal for Tenzin after all these years, and there's probably some bitterness towards Pema as she "stole" Tenzin away from her. But despite that she still decides to stay behind and make sure his family is safe because it's the right thing to do. And she doesn't even hesitate. She knows how crucial Tenzin's family are in regards to the air benders. She knows she will likely lose but she doesn't care. She's one of the best females in the show, and probably my second favorite after Tenzin.
She is a woman with deep feelings and inability to express them. Her deeds show her true character and is a manifestation of her strong morals. Doesn't care if those kids are her blood. She cares for them deeply. They are her legacy. She has shown how to be brave ,do the right thing and don't back down against oppression.
You werent won over by her until now, shes an incredibly sympathetic character who gets gaslighted into being "dramatic" at every turn by her family and korra. Toph refused to tell her who her father was until he was likely dead already, was never there for her daughters, meanwhile her sister treated her as garbage and got away with everything she did. Even when she scarred lin for life, and she never got an apolagy for anything. Instead all she got was gaslighting like shes a drama queen who cant let stuff go. Hell weve seen how traumatic it is to get your bending taken but all everyone cared about when it happend to lin was how korra was doing. Its honestly tragic
You know, the irony is it's implied that Lin and Tenzin broke up because Lin didn't want kids. Now here Lin is sacrificing herself for Tenzin's kids. I'd love it if they showed us a flashback of Lin being asked if she'd be godmother and Lin responding with going full kyoshi: creating air temple island with Earthbending "after Tenzin broke up with" her and Toph when she knew it smiled and said "That's my girl. Show twinkletoes junior whose chief."
This would be like losing your sight or hearing or senses of smell or taste or even a limb, something you've had your entire life now being ripped away from you and can never be restored. I'm just glad that Toph wasn't subjected to this, because that would truly be an appallingly cruel fate.
this is the best made scene in the whole series imo... after getting to know stubborn and cold Lin at the beginning, seing her this helpless but accepting what is going to happen, it just hits so hard... her closing her eyes and omg the music/sound design is so so good in this one.
I completely agree. But I also love how ATLA had so much implied and so much off screen. You had to critically think. Like Toph saying Jet was lying when he said he was going to be ok.
