Jelani really knows his stuff about Lincoln. It's great that this group pointed out, as did Lincoln himself- that he did not want credit for freeing the slaves- this had to happen in any case.

Lincoln came to know Christ in office w the death of a child. Knowing Christ's Word brings emotional, social ,and spiritual truth. Unfortunately, we talk about these folk like they live w our social values...that epoch in time looks so little like where we are today.

Sounds like you understand how hard it was for the people of that day. I pray this may be a way back to loving our neighbor. Too many people haven't really studied the real story.

I enjoy CBS MORNING, because they do the work and this segment is interesting about President Lincoln, journey to end , SLAVERY. I wish it was also on CBS BECAUSE AS WELL AS APPLE TV. EVERYONE'S DOESN'T HAVE APPLE TV. So many Blacks will not see this. Which not oy will I miss this but also, grade & high school students. I do hope that it does come to CBS. THANK YOU.

This whole thing is GASLIGHTING. The US government didn't want to send the former enslaved to Haiti or Africa because what they understood they NEEDED to continue EXPLOITING African labor to maintain their wealth. AFTER slavery ended, there was 100 years of share cropping, peonage through prison chain gangs which were ALL ways of keeping SLAVERY in tact. America is terrified of the idea of African people leaving, so much so that they try to scare black Americans away from returning to Africa. You see it on this network ridiculous laughable stories about Ghana etc, doing a full course smear campaign against the African countries we are returning to. Black people are the essential workers in the US, who are exploited by corporations right NOW. America is a PLANTATION country disguising itself as "FREE." 🙄💯

I hear you totally, but sadly the series creators probably went with the platform that would pay for it/give resources. Would have been great for it to be on something as widely watched as a Netflix.

*The past SHOULD be a cautionary tale. But look at the millions of Americans who don’t know and don’t want to know or discuss how race and racism built America. And look at the lengths they’re going to to do exactly that!*

Pros: It was a beautifully directed documentary. A strong historical primary source basis with modern events. Like a TedEd video mixed with a Ken Burns Documentary. Cons: It was disturbing how this documentary was so geared toward attacking Lincoln's legacy for not being enough of an abolitionist for BLM sensibility. It was full of anti-white sentiment and Democrat rhetoric.

Frederick Douglass should have a monument right next to Lincoln's. Lincoln wasn't an abolitionist, he was a white supremacist, that didn't like slavery, but he had to be moved to do the right thing by Black Americans, especially Frederick Douglass.

Copy, that epoch in time has so little a resemblance to our social status today.

Folks trying to manipulate hx to accommodate what is. Hate it. They make it sound like Davis just called up Lincoln and they on several occasions had ethical discussions. Please!

It seems like what’s causing you distress is what an honest conversation means to you. History is complex and nuisanced and even after seeing the first part of this docuseries there’s still no doubt in my mind that Lincoln was a great President. I can relate to your feelings as I felt the same way when the conversation of MLK’s philandering came up. Instead of trying to erase history or pretend things don’t exist, we need to see historical figures as what they are great but nonetheless human and not perfect and perfection is not required to be great…

I just hate how so much of critical race theory influences our thinking regarding national history. The 1850-1860's resemble nothing going on in our society today. That world is so different.
