Happy 73rd birthday to RnB, Disco queen Linda Clifford, who scored some big hits in that era, the New Yorker is also known as an actress & her work with Curtis Mayfield
DO I EVER.....remember THIS. I still have the LP and maybe even the 12". CLIFFORD was and is "bad" in 1978 or in 2022 "hella dope" Sistah tellin IT ....THEN and NOW Clifford takes Donna Summer and makes it "real"
awesome tune from 1979 reminds me of Rafters in Manchesters and the all dayers at the Ritz Whitworth St Manchester with DJs John Grant and Colin Curtis great memories
this record was great love linda clifford beware sista sista and lid like whit on rice runaway love was her biggest hit but this was so good and such fun and then she blew it out with her fantastic version of if they could see me know Linda where are you we need more
WHETHER IT IS PAJAMAS,OR A POWER BUSINESS SUIT;WHETHER IT IS CURLERS & CUT-OFFS, OR A SATIN BALL GOWN...NOT ONLY ARE THE CUT,THE COLOR,AND THE MATERIAL PERFECTLY SUITED TO HER FRAME AND COMPLEXION....HER HAIR IS WORN IN THE RIGHT STYLE FOR THE OCCASION AND THE OUTFIT! HER TASTE IS IMPECCABLE- MISS REBA IS THE DEFINITION OF CLASSICAL-COUNTRY-ELEGANCE..HER SONG CHOICES EVEN REFLECT HER TALENT AND CHIC....LADY JUST ROCKS!
Awesome, heard it for the first time yesterday. I just knew about Runaway Love, and If My Friends Can See Me Now. This cut is the bomb! I can't believe it is 34 years old. It would work today at a dance party or club. WoW!
Move over G.Gaynor and D.Sumner, THE DIVA has arrived. Not on the level of L.Holloway, but closer to Marlena Shaw. Very under rated considering she has done some superb work with the talented Gil Askey. The lyrics are incredibly sassy but charming!!! Linda: you are the Bomb!!
❤😂🎉"This Was A Great Song, So Was Runaway Love, But This Was On A 2 Album Set, Why I Don't Know, Because Other Than Side 1, The Rest Of The Albums Sucked, Sorry😢😮😅
This sounds like "Runaway love" - forgot she had this as a hit. Is she still alive. Every time they do those oldie but goodie shows on PBS they never include her or her music.
Linda's too talented to wage this little war. Basically this is the "rap" from "Runaway Love" on steroids. Maybe they were thinking Millie Jackson here, not sure, anyway, Millie's better at it and takes it straight to Rated X where it belongs. On the bright side, the vocals from Linda and the Jones Girls are great, definitely the rare instance of a 7" being superior to a 12".
You must not have been familiar with Linda's style because this was definitely HER. She co-wrote this along with her producer Gil Askey, who wrote "Runaway Love" for her.
@@jimy0803 Linda wrote all the rap part of "Runaway Love" as well but never got writing credit. She was actually riffing in the recording studio and didn't realize they were recording her - and they decided to keep it in and go with it for the song. It's a crime she didn't get the songwriting credit for it.
No wonder this is a b side it is so cheesy and awful and the way Linda Clifford describe the way women live their lives she sounds like the man is her pimp.you supposed to be over the hill at 25 in this song as a woman. The other week on the graham Norton show pink made a comeback to the music business and the record company told her no one play a artist over 35 so where is the upper age limits cliff Richard Elton John and status quo get trouble with radio airplay pink was a rare exception. But there is ageism in our society and the woman life in the song sounds like my sister lousy marriage to her husband .
every ounce of effort on this track is priceless. completely, and totally priceless. I'd rather be dead than quadriplegic NOT to be able to dance to this Crown Jewel of a recording.
