@@paulschenck4029 I'm pretty sure they was a couple at some point ,not sure if it was when they did this song together tho....im guessing it probably was :)
A rare and unique collaboration. Beautiful. Aaron Neville’s catalog is full of terrific material, mostly with the Neville Brothers. And Linda Ronstadt is fantastic. Enjoy.
Did y'all know that they did this song in 1 take?! After they finished, Aaron went up to Linda and said, "See you at the Grammy's." Of course they won in their category that year.
Thanks for the post. Agree, this astonishing duet IS, imo, heavenly...so simple, yet so profound....have to say, Aaron Neville is amazing here, but I'm still a sucker for Linda Ronstadt's otherwordly vocals on this...fantastic
Watch the video Linda Ronstadt, The Sound of My Voice. Perhaps the greatest female vocalist ever. I count myself lucky to have seen both of these amazing talents live in concert…
Aaron Neville was pretty big in the U.S. when I was a kid. He sang a cotton commercials that was HUGE. He probably doubled the sales of cotton in the early 90s. This sounds foolish, but that jingle really was a great song. It's a defining memory of my childhood. Anyone who hasn't heard it should search for "aaron neville cotton commercial", you won't be disappointed
Tom, I was born in 85, and so this was is such a great memory that I’d forgotten about! Thanks for posting your thought, as I went over and found the commercial and had this ‘wow…damn…ahhh…the world is right for the moment!’
Aaron had a big hit back in the 1966 with "Tell It Like It Is". Amazing singer. One of the Neville Brothers. Super talented New Orleans musical family. Art and Cyril with the Meters. Charles an amazing saxophone player. They all got together as the Neville Brothers in the late 1970s up to 2012. I had seen them many times live since the 1970s. Now only Aaron and Cyril are left. I forgot I saw Aaron live with a piano player about 3 years ago. A lot of Doo Wop. Amazing!
Aaron Neville first came in the national scene in the late 60's with the hit "Tell It Like It Is". His father was an R&B artist Art Neville. He also has a family band the Neville Brothers. The Neville's also own a club in New Orleans called Tipitina's. Aaron wasnt seen much in the 70's possibly because of personal issues. He made a big comeback in the 80's.
Of course I heard this on the radio frequently back early 90s, but tonight was the first time I listened to it with headphones on, Aaron and Linda's voices were outstanding. The harmonies were spectacular!
Thank you for the wonderful review. His band with his brothers, The Neville Brothers, is a truly great band. Based out of New Orleans. The song "Yellow Moon," is a fantastic song.
This song was featured on Linda Ronstadt's album : "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind". They duoed on 3 or 4 songs on this album and the rest of her solo work was great. A wonderful album I have listened to numerous times. You should try "Good-bye My Friend" by Linda Ronstadt (a cover of Karla Bonoff). Really nearly every song is worth a listen.
I love Aaron Neville’s song called 1927 Louisiana. It’s about the flooding that happened there. It really showcases his voice and of course keeps in mind that tragic event. I saw him do a live version of it with Tracy Chapman. It was good. It was very interesting. Even if you don’t do a reaction to it. At least you should listen to it.
Check out Linda’s work with the Nelson riddle orchastra; What’s new What I’ll do I love you for sentimental reasons Someone to watch over me. Her cover of the Eagles “desperado” is other worldly!!
Nice reaction to a beautiful duet. Suggestion if you have not already done it. View video of Barbara Streisand and Berry Gibb singing What kind of Fool. I think it is of the same quality as Linda and Aaron.
