I have thoroughly enjoyed your reactions to Linda Ronstadt. Linda is an American singer of Mexican and German heritage. Canciones de mi padre is a compilation of songs her father enjoyed and obviously that she grew up hearing (this album was a tribute to her father). She had wanted to record this album earlier but the American market wasn’t ready for a Spanish language record (and Mexican genre) from an American icon. Also, it’s not surprising that you understand some Spanish given that Romanian is a Romance language. Polish also has borrowed many Latin words.
Linda, as a true star in the industry, was never afraid to let others shine during a performance. She was very content to play the part of balance during a duet, or trio. She wanted the light to shine on the MUSIC more than shine on her!

La barca de Guaymas translates as "The boat of Guaymas", Guaymas is a port in northern Mexico, in the state of Sonora. The song is one of bereavement. It talks about departing, leaving your loved one, and then the barge, or boat, coming back all wrecked up and defeated. The sailor that sailed so happy found storms and came back with death in his soul. It is a very old song that dates to the XIX th Century. It was very popular during the Mexican revolution in 1910. Linda is a great musician, whose primary instrument is her voice. One of her many attributes is the ability to blend well with other singers. With her vocal power, she could easily overpower others, but never does.Her best harmonizing was with Dolly Parton and EmmyLou Harris on their "trio" albums. Her most well known are with James Ingram on "Somewhere Out There", and with Aaron Neville on "Don't Know Much". Also sang with Smokey Robinson, and Johnny Cash, among others.
Glad you are doing more of Linda's music. She is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Linda also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). You might also enjoy her collaborations with "Dolly Parton" & "Emmylou Harris". They did a few albums together called "Trio" in 1987 & 1999.
She is the only artist whose vocal improvement is so evident throughout the course of her career. She had already done operetta for an entire year by the time she got to the Mexican phase but the operatic style that she rolled out for the first Mexican album was just breathtaking. Crikey ! I had no idea what was going on with the dancing and the giant hats but I liked the singing and the singlets. You don't often see singlets in music videos so well done for that. I also didn't know that Linda Ronstadt had Mexican ancestry so that was new to me as well. I do enjoy your videos Andrei and Dominika particularly the Lucy and Martha Thomas ones. Can I suggest an Australian singer you might like to have a look at. Her name is Megan McInerney and she often sings with her younger sister Hannah. She calls herself ' Meg Mac ' ( yes I know, a Big Mac with Nutmeg, sigh ) and she likes to make herself look as much like Severus Snape ( from Harry Potter ) as she possibly can. Mariachi is a mini traveling orchestra and tenor. The music is music but the voice has to hit the high notes. And many many Mexicans singers of this style can’t not hit does notes. That’s why she became and got some hate from Mexican mariachi singers, because she could transmit the felling of the song with her voice . Even though Spanish was no her language. The two albums she recorded in Spanish are amazing

Aunque cada vez más se habla del arte como subjetivo, una cierta formación y el apego a ciertos cánones siguen siendo parte de lo que define a todas las artes. El no dominar la técnica intrínseca a casa arte, o peor descontrola, nos dice que en todo caso, como tú bien mencionas, estamos ante una persona que se dedica al entretenimiento, no así al arte.
