Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre whether ballads, country, rock & opera. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado", "When Will I Be Loved" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.

Remember when this song came out, and already had a teenage boy crush on Linda back then, all started with Different Drum with The Stone Poneys. I’ve watched as many You Tube live performances of this song that has been downloaded, and every single one is spot on sung perfect as the original record. There is no lip synch, no auto tune, no remastered anything. Linda Ronstadt is one of the best vocalists ever.

Dani, Thank you so much. I hoped you would like it as much as I do. Linda is 23 , 1969, at the Grand Old Opry.This song was nominated for a Grammy but Dinon Warwick won. Never the less, Linda Ronstadt has 30 albums 11 Grammys and a history on RU-vid worth seeing. barefoot hoop earrings and full of sincere opinions.

Yes, writing songs like this can be therapeutic and soulful, and can help to calm oneself as well as the audience who will listen, who may be in a situation like this. Relationships can be a delight, or can erode quickly. You just have to hope that you picked the right person.

A lot of folks don't know Linda started out as lead for the Stoney Ponies and scored big with Different Drum back in 1967!

The group's name was The Stone Ponys (yes, I spelled "ponys" the way it is (incorrectly) spelled in the group's name). I think most avid Ronstadt fans know that she started out with that group.

I'm sure many people have commented previously, easily 90% of today's singers couldn't pull this off, Pure talent, pure voice, That's why I rarely find anyone to listen to from today's entertainment industry, Adele, Carrie Underwood, George Strait, Little Big Town, There certainly are some, but not many

When Linda first came out with this song she sang it on several tv shows and it clearly wasn't lipsyned . I think this version on the Johnny Cash Show was probably the best although all of them were good. This was a big hit way back then and it seems it was forgotten about until it recently became popular because of "The Last Of Us".

The theme of the song reminds of Jean Paul-Sartre: "It isn't what the world does to you. It's what you do to yourself with what the world does to you." Her "heartache" is entirely self-inflicted.

Having natural emotions is something we “inflict” on ourselves. Yeah ok. I guess according to you, when a loved one is killed, or dies, and it’s difficult for you to get over, it’s all “self-inflicted”. Kind of a dumb way to characterize it.

Or Jean-Paul Sartre: "it is not what the world does to us. It is what we doto ourselves with what the world does to us." There is also a distinction made between "feelings" and "emotions". Read the research on "shame" and how it can masquerade as other than shame, such as depression. Some of us are more sophisticated in self-observation than being hapless victims of our feelings and or emotions. Most, such as you, reject the idea that we are helpless in the face of our feelings and or emotions because we refuse to accept that we interpret reality; and following patterns react in habitual ways not to the world but to our interpretations.
