About the "Van Sessions": Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers are a rock/country/soul band from San Francisco with a busy touring schedule. Between gigs they pass the time by playing cover songs in their van, recording them with an iPhone and posting them online for fun. They do, indeed, wear their seatbelts (most of the time). This is more intimate than a stage performance. You can see the faces of the group, as well as subtle smiles and other expressions. The folk era capitalized on this technique that draws the audience into the performance. Nice.

It's true, other than I think only "You're No Good" we don't perform these songs live nor do we rehearse them outside of the van. We don't even do them every day we travel, just when it sounds fun. We decide the song whenever boredom sets in, listen, and figure out how to play it, then run it once or twice and put the iPhone up and go. It usually 2 or 3 takes and we stop once we get one we like.

gotta say ive watched a few of these vids and nobody gives any props to the guitarist. I play guitar and trust me its not easy to play in any vehicle..let alone with 5-6 people in the van. good job brother!

The thing that is amazing to me is that they don't actually perform these songs at their shows.... so these aren't rehearsals. I imagine them getting in the van, spending a couple of hours rehearsing for whatever cover song they're going to do, then recording it on the same trip.

As GOD is my witness I have heard this song 1000 times and I would sing along with the words. But last night was the first time I understood what the words meant. Your version allowed me to hear the song for the first time as it was supposed to be listened to. WOW you guys and LADY are great.
