Bitch, I'm back by popular demand and with TWO channels! WTA videos from 2016 till now will be posted on TheMsharapova9 and WTA videos until 2015 will be posted here on TheMsharapova8.
I know a lot of you have mentioned it, but for real none of the WTA hits like this anymore. The quality has declined massively. Plus it’s hard to know how well the ball sounds off most of their racquets bc they’re screaming every time. Like everyone said, the sound of a ball from Lindsay’s racquet literally hits different 😮
If you look at the stats from this match and compare them with the stats on wimbledon now. You can see that back then they weren't either pushers or ball bashers. They could control their power and not make 20 UEs each set.
So true. Such controlled aggression. I think a lot of it comes down to mental toughness and I feel as though this generation of players was much more tough mentally compared to the current one.
@@mikeg8375 Back then, the top players were motivated to be the best they could be. And they weren't just happy to have one good week and make a lot of money. They also had much more developed games besides hitting hard. They could come to the net to put away points or play the defensive point. Now, every player wants to hit the ball hard. They miss, they just hit harder. There's no control. And then we get disaster slam finals like the 2017 USO final. And the players today become too complacent after just one good tournament. They win a slam or 1000, and then they can't even reach a QF for months. There's not a hunger to dominate and be the best they can be.
Davenport had such a big return game. She would go for the lines like this shot if the second serve was weak and in her Strike Zone which this one was.
On grass Clijsters did not stand a chance against Davenport, too much serve and groundstrokes power from the American. The Belgian could not defend and counterattack as much as she could on hard courts
Well at least this was better then there last Wimbledon meeting in 2001 where clijsters lost 6-2, 6-1 to Davenport .. an Justine henin had that surprise win on other American Jennifer caprati . Still I think this clijsters should have won this match ..
I agree. Kim was always the better player. But let's give her break, she was recovering from an injury if I'm not mistaken. Plus, she had just returned at the beginning of the year and did amazing by winning IW and Miami.
@@daniolitheone u are right.. but , clijsters was really only amazing on hardcourts.. that’s it.. she had two careers an neither did she make a Wimbledon final in neither... Even in 2001 she had a golden chance to win the French open only having capriati in the finals an blew it.. Justine henin made her debut in the Wimbledon finals but everyone knew there was next to zero chance of winning playing the most dangerous player Venus Williams .. there was no shot there
Kim Lost this match but I still think she should have beaten Lindsay Davenport here.. she was a better all around player no doubt... Davenport was on fire though ..
I agree that Clijsters was an overall better player; but when Davenport was on, she was the queen of first strike tennis whether it was off her serve or return. And it's tough to win from a defensive position, especially on faster surfaces.
@@drtslim but I’ve also heard over an over the grass at Wimbledon is really not that fast anymore post 2001 Anymore.. the courts at Us open are faster actually.. plus now they use heavier balls on grass ..
@@justineandserena I think that they were still using lighter balls in 2005, so play would be a bit faster than today. Plus grass is also slippery (in a different way than clay) making it more difficult to play defense (especially changing direction)
