Lindsay Mendez and Alex Gemignani sing "When the Children are Asleep" from Carousel at the 63rd Drama Desk Awards on June 3rd, introduced by Joshua Henry, hosted by Michael Urie.
From Grease to Dogfight to Godspell to Wicked to Carousel, Lindsay Mendez is a true force of nature. Very happy that she is finally getting truly noticed and rewarded for her insane talent and passion. As an aside she is also the friendliest and most genuine actress currently on Broadway.
i loved her in wicked! i think it's wonderful she got a role in a revival! i think sometimes it sucks that ppl dont recognize ppl who are in long running shows as replacements. congrats lindsay!
I was there in person for the Drama Desks. Went in support of Lindsay since I study with her at Actor Therapy (the Theater school she runs with Ryan Scott Oliver). Proud you Mama.
Martha Garvey He’s also a GREAT actor. You should watch him play Johnathan Hinkley Jr. in Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins”. And on top of that, he’s the son of Paul Gemingani, Sondheim’s most frequently collaborative Conductor. In my mind, He’s the Broadway equivalent to Paul Giamatti!
Brilliant! Carousel deserved Best Revival, Joshua Henry as Best Actor, and the great Alex Gemigani as Best Supporting Actor. Loved the show, it was brilliant. Shame on The Tonys.
Just wondering, is Enoch supposed to be a lot older than Carrie? I'd only imagine him being like 5 years older her, so he'd be in his mid to late 20s and she'd be in her early 20's? Or does it just depend on the actors? He looks at least 10-15 years older than her here.
I have to admit I prefer a real soprano as Carrie. As much as I love Lindsay she sounds like a muppet here. Go listen to Audra McDonald if you want to hear how this song was written.
