My favorite part about this dance style is that it has such an emphasis on fun. Only the most talented can successfully fake this kind of energy and happiness. It requires coordination and planning but you have to be in the mood for it to avoid making it look stiff.
I have a friend who does the Lindy Hop, he is a train guard on a private steam train and very quiet & reserved that is until he is on stage doing the Lindy Hop and the transformation is incredible! Can’t believe he is the same person. So much energy & the way he swings his partner (I’m thinking hey ho ! ) he wears the most fab set of clothes too. I say if you have got - get out there!
Whilst this is a VERY admirable statement, let's remember that only the people who got to go to the parties in the twenties were having the fun. It wasn't all that fun for those who were destitute and poor. But as I said , a very admirable want to have!
Believe it or not, it’s all about perspective. In the olden days this music and these sexy moves were considered rambunctious and sexual. The older generation would view it as one may view the classlessness of twerking in the year 2023.
My dad swing danced with my sister at her wedding, now whenever i see swing dancing i always remember that moment! Props to the people dancing look like so much and danced amazingly
Hey from the US. I'm so sad at the way my govnt is villifying your people, and I really pray that outside of the insane people running things, the rest of us can remember we have more in common than not. Wishing you all well and lots of dancing~
I started learning Lindy Hop in 2017 and I *highly* recommend it! It's so much fun, the people are amazing, and since you're having fun you won't even realize how much you're exercising!
I went to try some lindy hop today with my dad. Although it was an introductory course, i was quite clearly the only one there who didn’t know the basic dance moves. Felt a bit out of place and i cant say i really got the hang of it from that one time, but im glad i did it. I’ve been allergic to dancing my entire (albeit, rather short) life and it was nice to get to dance with people you dont know with no strings attached, or history. The fact you change partner every few minutes also makes it way less awkward.
I mean I loooove watching these.. and there are so many talented dancers! But I secretly wish everyone in the room had the enthusiasm and endurance to be jiving along the whole time.
Came here to imagine how Sadie and George Amberson would have danced there Lindy Hop back in the days and I can say I got not disappointed.... Amazing dance...
This is bizarre. I just started listening to 11.22.63 about 3 days ago and I just got to the part where George met Bevvy (and the othe guy cant remember his name) and helped them practice the Lindy Hop, which was what made me look it up (I knew what it was, just wanted to watch it). 20 minutes later I scroll throught the comments of a random video from Russia and see this comment comment from 3 years ago haha
This is so incredible and fun, I'm from Brasil and I didn't know exist a dance like this, should be so wonderful and happy, now I really want to know how to dance like this
The closest thing to this that I've done is swing dancing, country style. It's a great thing too but this is so very different, and it looks so energetic and fun. I want to try it so bad but I don't know anyone or anywhere I could do it with. Better start preparing my solo footwork!
There’s Lindy Hop dance lessons in. Y city i just became aware of, apparently it’s a growing scene in my city and the lesson are very affordable. So I’m going to the beginner social next month before registration opens. So I’ve been looking up videos to see what I’m getting myself into lol looks really fun!
These people represent the era these songs represent so well that I don't see a single black person every time I watch videos with this style of dance, it's a shame because I'm black and I love this type of dance
I've been very productive in this quarantine. I learned the charleston and some solo swing steps. But now I'm really depressed, because I feel like I'm finally light on my feet enough to try this sort of stuff with a partner...except I can't. Thanks COVID.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that this was published in 2018. I would love to be able to dance like this!!!! Hate new music. I am a product of my father who raise my sisters and I on Oldies music. This makes me so proud that there are young people who also appreciate great music!!!!
Merry Red if you love jazz and are interested in the dance, you should join your local Lindy Hop scene! The culture is more than alive and kicking, there are workshops and classes all over the world!
For anyone wondering, most of these dancers do this as a hobby, though some may teach it too. Very few if any paid performers. also it's a Jack and Jill dance, these people have likely never partnered with each other.
Valerie Vivian well to be fair the concept of swing music is kind of the same everywhere 😉 so judging by how great they already are I think they wouldn’t have a problem with a „generic“ swing backround music 😅
