@HeavyBlueMetal I actually ordered the HD300. Just for the fun of it. Going to put it up against my Axe and see where it gets me. The test would be to check the difference between the rectifier models.
@CrazyDiamond1968 not really! as I mentioned earlier I've placed an order for the HD300. All in all the Pod is a more attractive unit than the Axe. Together with a small power amp for say a Crate Powerblock I can have an ultra portable rig fit into my gig bag. I really hope it delivers sound wise though. This video didn't do it much justice. But of course when it arrives I will put it head to head with the Axe.
Iv bough alot of floor processes and this thing rocks. But since im a pedal person i love the cab bypass and the fx loop button. The hd 400 and 500 are awesome when used with your favorite stomp boxes !
The distortion always sounds like a fuzz effect with L6 products because it's digital and not analog. L6 just doesn't get it that it's not just more processing power that get's you good distortion tones and permissiveness. That's why Peavey is now the leader in modeling technology.
There is a problem in the function sometimes. I have the same pod as you and after I had updated it, I had problem with my expression pedal. Although I fixed it and now it works properly. All you need to do is to find what EXACTLY the problem is. ;)
Hey man! Great video, very informative. I'm about to buy this in used condition but there isn't an adapter with it. Can you help me out and show me the adapter somehow? I'd be thankful. Thank you
To the person who asked, yes you can plug units like these into effects loops but you bypass the preamp stage of the amp. All depends on what you want your sound to be like
The amp models seem promising. I have the M13 so I already know what to expect from the actual effects. If the clean amp models sound good then I might be seeing a new unit in my room soon
I had the HD 500 for 2 weeks and took it back, didn't care for the digital tones I was getting out of it. So it looks like my tonelab le is not for sale now.
@PF1964 buy a zendrive, tubescreamer or OCD pedal for blues. The pod will definately get you versatility but for great blues and a princeton all you need is a good overdrive pedal.
@Harrysound yeah but if half of your amp models suck, there's not point having so many amp models. I also have a pod X3 live, and I always use the same few amps that sound good to me.
harley....it depends on your amp and how you tweak the Pod. There's a myriad of different settings and parameters, and different amps will react differently. I use an old Fender Twin, and there isn't really a poweramp in/FX loop. I treat the Pod like a stompbox pedalboard, instead of like racks of gear. Be sparse, less is more. Don't need a bunch of sims, eq, etc when going into the front of amps. Stompbox mindset works really well!
@Magicplayer1992 I've got about 16 boutique and vintage tube amps. I have more analog and very high end digital effects (that is to say, Eventide) than God. The HD500 sounds fantastic. Just thought you might want to know.
I have a POD X3 Live, it's amazing soundwise and has way more amp models then this model . For me virsitility is a big plus point so i'll wait till they have about 30 cabs and amps before I do the trade.
I was going to sell my hd300 but after a lot of tweaking etc I decided to keep it. I use it occasionally. Only issue is the volume. It changes everytime I unhook it. Have to reset a lot. It does fender cleans well and heavy metal. In between sounds, no.
The only problem I've found after having my hd400 is that the effects are put into sections as opposed to choosing them freely, so I can't have both a compressor and EQ for example because they're both in FX1, a slight hinderance but that's prety much my only grievance with the product, really urge anyone to give them a try :)
Think the song at 9 mins was run like hell not another brick in the wall. Now need to choose between spider 4 75 or hd 400 with just a speaker?? Any ideas which would be better.
I'm thinking of buying this Hd 300 or the Vox Tonelab EX to make a Fender Princeton reverb more versatile, what do you thinK and which is the best to get a bluesy sound with a strat?
nothing will ever compare to the "real thing". the point of this type of gear is to give you recordable or live situation approximations of "real" types of tones. there is a certain feel when you crank an actual ENGL or other and stand in front of it. it will blow you face off and inspire you to do things you would not naturally do with a practice amp. These pods give you the opportunity, for little money to dial in an approximation of a "real" amp. it sounds damn good with the right equip.
does it have an effects chain? i find when i use effects with heavy distortion it ruins the sound! cause the effect always overpowers the distortion no matter how low the level...
@bubbamc119 J'm agree with u....infact j wrote "a very good compromise...probably!!"......here in italy the price of the axe-ultra is 2000Euro(euro not dollars) and the line6 hd500, will cost 499euro.....as j said, only a good compromise....j know the axe-fx is "beyond"......Ciao cheers !
I had my Pod HD500 for about 8 months. I loved playing with it in the bedroom but when I tried to take it out to play on stage it didn't feel right at all. Had to tweak a hell of a lot all the time to get the sound I wanted with all the different amps and fx. So I ended up selling it. But I really think Line6 are awesome to let a poor wannabe guitarist try out different effects and amps for such a neat price.
J like the line6 products,j have a pod xt live and j think the m9 and the m13 are very very good...but if you are so lucky to be rich ,j think the axe-fx ultra is the best, although the hd400/500 will be for sure a very good compromise...probably! ciao cheers
PLS SOMEONE HELP ME! i have a fully Oudated hd400 but in custom tones library ALL hd400 tones are downloaded in my pc in .h3e file extension (for hd300 file) and my unit cannot open these files! am i missing something?
Great effects, great feel...But great amp sounds? The clean and bluesy tones are pretty great...The high gain amp sounds? Not so much......It seems like in order to get any gain on a sound you have to use the distortion/overdrive boxes...Then it sounds pretty good..BUT, you shouldn't have to use a distortion box on a high gain amp model....???...I have heard some pretty good tones from this online(high gain sounds), but they must have all been using the pedals....
I have my A button not clicking does anyone know how I can take all programs from A an switch it to B? I know this an old post but have gig tonite 8-28-2015
