We chat a little about why we feel these humble yet sharp looking hats are a good choice with a kilt. Is the flat cap a major tradition in Scottish kilt attire? Not really outside of hunting, deer stalking, hill walking and golf. However, what makes the flat cap idea for outdoors adventure in a kilt is also what makes it an easy go-to for those who wear the kilt daily. Usually made of UK woolen tweeds, the flat cap is warm and wind-friendly. It's low profile will not clash visually with a kilted outfit - similar to how a Balmoral or Tam just feel right with the kilt.

My now "Late" Father in Law wore a flat cap when he was with us and looked great in it. I didn't know it back then that he and I both have Scottish heritage; He was a Craig and I am a MacLean on Dad's side and Smith on Mom's side (Double jeopardy) and both of mine are Highland clans. His is Lowland from around Aberdeen. History is so cool!

I think flat caps are one of the BEST looks for a casual kilt. Even semi casual...

I've worn flat caps for 40 years. Started wearing them back in the 80's when the solid colors were popular with the skiing crowd. Transitioned to tweed ones as a casual cold-weather cap as I got older (just got a new one, direct from Ireland, this past Christmas!), and once the "top cover" started to thin, started wearing lighter ones for summer sun protection. Looking forward to seeing what you end up bringing in.

I've tried hats from all over the world and Brixton hats from California are by far the best. I just wish they would make me one in tartan

In ireland the flat cap is more associated with rural areas than the urban working class,The county Kerry family of rural politicians called the healy reas have made it their trademark ,although they don't all wear it.

I had someone recently call my flat cap aka paddy cap a newsboy hat. I had to inform the difference. Would you mind doing a video describing the difference between the two types of caps?

I have several scally caps, from Scotland and Ireland and the US. As far as US manufacturers, I know Boston Scally Co ships their products out of PA. Have you considered stocking some of their scally caps as part of your flat cap line?

Not to be a killjoy but you know flat caps are English? They originate from northern England, it’s part of English culture/heritage, not Celtic

I'm English and it's right they originally from the north in the 16th century. Maybe we took them to Ireland during colonial days?
