It's funny because I had ordered this same one last week and remembered watching this video of yours like two days go. I have a hollow, 17 note kalimba that I bought two weeks ago and loved it. But once this one came in today, it had the same effect on me as did you! It has this magical ring to the keys! I'm hooked!! All I said was WOW after trying it for the first time!
@@MsMarmima Yes I as a matter of fact still like both! Strangely I find myself practicing more with the 17 key because I’m still a beginner. I fell it is simpler to learn and I think standers kalimbas have 17. Also the hollow body gives louder sound than this solid one but this one as you can see comes with a thing that hooks up to an amp or possibly a speaker to increase the sound volume.
As much as the 34 key kalimbas open up possibilities for jazz, blues, and songs with just the occasional accidental, I actually find myself reaching for the 21 key most often. I love that it has those extra few notes to really fill out an arrangement. Once I get more practice with the chromatic kalimbas I'll let you know if my opinion changes. Thanks for watching!
This kalimba comes tuned from the factory and the tines are held tightly in place with screws, so it really won't go out of tune with normal use. A few tines were ever-so-slightly off pitch, but it wasn't so bad that it sounded terrible. Since making the video I feel like the sound of this kalimba is still bell-like and beautiful, but because of the sympathetic resonance there are some songs that don't sound as good on this one as they do on kalimbas with only one row of tines. Overall I much prefer this one to my SEEDS chromatic kalimba, even if I don't get those low notes here.
@@starlightkalimba Thanks. I've been contemplating whether to get this chromatic or the chill angels chromatic. I actually like the layout of notes on this lingting chromatic better than the layout on the chill angels chromatic, but the sound of the chill angels sounds a bit better overall in my opinion. Maybe the sympathetic resonance issue is jsut an issue with chromatic kalimbas in general? I'm not sure as I've never played one.
@@fuckbored4724 Please let me know how the Chill Angels kalimba is if you do get one! I've considered it but haven't tried one out yet. It's cool that they tune them so there are no duplicate notes, but I also preferred the idea of every upper tine being a sharp of the tine below it so that's why I've gone with other chromatics first. I would say that sympathetic resonance is present in all chromatic kalimbas just by the nature of the instrument, but I've noticed it's definitely more pronounced in some models than others.
