@@Syrian-guy ain't no cap. I've been screaming for a decade and that was the worst attempt at given up I've ever fucking heard. She can't even last the full 17 seconds nor can she even fucking scream.
@@joeyrushfield1260exactly, when the vocal compression on the recording would be in place, chester more often than not split the scream, and that is totally fine. It’s torture for the vocal cords and lung, even with proper technique.
Solid performance by Emily. Here's some nerdy information about the long scream being performed live. Chester performed the full 17 seconds scream only 7 times live. 5 times in 2007 and 2 times in 2008. In other words, he never did it for the last 9 and a half years of his life. Even at the years he was performing that full scream live, he used to do it rarely. I see some people judging Emily for not pulling off the full scream and they absolutely don't know what they are talking about. I recommend everyone to enjoy Linkin Park with Emily as a vocalist because in my opinion she's been singing great so far.
I don't get how people are so shocked by Emily. Linkin Park would never choose a singer who couldn't scream Like Chester. Her auditions were probably insane. And she's probably a Linkin Park fan. She's legit.
Well I would not say she screams like Chester ,but it’s weird when I hear her life and I close my eyes I can hear a piece of Chester in her voice …I don’t know why
Well Emily - you proved me wrong and I’m so happy you did! I didn’t think she could do it. This is one of the ones I had doubts about. Only because that scream is so iconic and hard. But she did it in her own way and style and I think it was great :)
If you all think Chester did the 17-second scream at every show, you're crazy, and I can prove it. She can't even sing "up", bro. Not here nor in Burn It Down. The 8 seconds is the way to sings during live performances, but her technique is also bad with screams, and she can't hit high notes.
@@kleberleonardo-me you are right that she is not perfect singer but Chester was not too... You are right that she "wants" to be Chester and in some cases it is weird, you are right that some songs do not fit her voice. Unfortunetelly, Chester "is not" with us anymore and nobody can replace him. BUT the Linkin Park with Emily is still Linkin Park with just new singer. It will take some time when they will have songs designed for her voice and they will not need "change hights" anymore... I do not care about her pass, everyone make misstakes in the life. I care about what is she doing now and I am really happy that Linkin Park came with her because she is very good and Linkin Park is not "neutered" with her. PS: there are guys who will alwys "hate" any singer who would replace the Chester, and these guys are not LP fans and newer were...
@@jirivyskocil6726 It's boring having to explain every time that I don't expect her to replace Chester, and it's better for her to be herself, which is the band's purpose. And Idgas if she's a Scientologist, although that really is a dilemma for the band given the pain of the audience (the lyrics, aside from the tragedy itself). The fact is, she's not a good vocalist, and Linkin Park has always been known for great stage performances. Some of you seem to have only watched the last shows where Chester was not at his best. She can't navigate between high and low notes, and she constantly leaves it to the audience to sing. It's also annoying to have to explain that it has nothing to do with her being a woman; that's the only thing missing from your comment to make it complete.
Of course she killed it, why doubting about it? Don't be stupid if she joined the band, it's because Mike and the others knew she's worthy and she can handle it.
@JuanRivera-pu5vc mate even Chester didn't do that part live perfect every time. Can't believe you actually timed her scream to see if she could match it 🙄 especially half way through a show already 🙄
@@JuanRivera-pu5vc grow up 🙄 I saw LP in 2001 and they were terrible! It took Chester years to perfect his live shows and he still messed up too every now and then. Even Mike sounded off sometimes in this concert. Just give her time or F off since you’re clearly not a real fan 😂
For peoples information. Chester did the full scream 7 times. five in 2007 and two times in 2008. You could almost say eight since he did a 17s scream in Faint at the Astoria in may 2007 as well! Id say 2012 was the last time he seemed physically fit enough to do the 17s if he wanted to but i get why he did not
Only thing i still hope she changes is the way she tries to make her voice deeper when she doesn't need to? Like Chester would sing beautifully, and scream or growl in a badass way. Thats why we say he sings like and angel and screams like a demon. She tries a little bit too much to keep her voice sounding lowish or manly when she is in the singing part, idk why she does it because Chesters voice is not even a deep low voice, so idk if that is just her way to sing it or not but yeah, i noticed in other songs too. Bottom line is, i just think she should sing it with her own voice when its to sing, and do what everyone loves when she needs to scream.
She's not trying to make her voice deeper. Generally speaking, female singers have higher vocal ranges than male singers so whats relatively high in a "male" vocal range often sounds relatively low in a "female" vocal range. Thats why they pitched up some of the old songs for these live shows, but I guess they decided not to do that for this one
@@Blossom_Nova no she is clearly making her voice sound deeper. Everyone hears that. You can clearly hear it in somewhere i belong and other songs. Also i am not the only one hearing it as you can see.
I really wanna hear a clear version of this and with her vocals, i can only find live footage for now because of course she just joined. But i really want to hear it as a studio version.
@@tiagoelias3574there will likely be a well produced and recorded high quality live album with her singing the old songs sometime soon after from zero though
@@leenoficial you're the one I meant with people who have seen just a YT video. It was 2007 in the album cycle, he never did it after that for the next 10 years.
Seeing all these robots with their frcking phones up in the air just pisses me up. YOU HAVE THE IMMENSE PRIVILEGE OF BEING THERE LIVE!! Put that shit in your pockets, live that concert and headbang like there's no tomorrow FFS!
I think what we're seeing is that Emily has not given a great first impression, and this is going to be an issue for a while. Whilst she can do cleans well, and in her own band she was quite good, she's clearly overdoing rasp snd using bad technique. This is in contrast to Chester, who's early lice performances were actually some of his best, and even he himself realised later on he couldn't go 100% on every show, so he used different techniques to power through the shows, even if it wasn't exactly the same as in the studio. Emily needs to relax and use techniques that support her voice, rather than trying to overcompensate. Songs like "Waiting For The End" don't need her screaming.
And here we have a comment, that doesnt even know what he is talking about xD Bad technique? Wtf? Her technique is awesome! Is actually one of the best vocal techniques i have seen in quite some time. The ability to control your vocal fry like a gain switch is so unimaginably hard and she nails it. Chester did that too btw. You can actually see how relaxed Emily is doing her screams - that is a clear sign of a good technique! The bridge in given up, that she just showed us: perfect! Yeah she did pause (what is a good thing for a lot of reasons and also a sign, that Emily is fully aware of how to use her voice), but that pause wasnt nearly enough to catch on breath to do the next scream just after just a moment. So she contained breath while screaming - a fucking clear sign of a fucking good technique! You clearly never learned to sing or use vocal fry. If you did... how can you even say such bs?
You are watching a live concert filmed on a damn phone from the audience. What kind of audio quality are you really expecting here? Even the band sounds bad with this garbage audio quality.
Since I saw the From Zero concert they posted I was stoked to hear Emily perform Given Up. And in particular wondered how she would cope with that infamous scream. And to be quite honest I am impressed how she decided to do it. The way she does it is still quite impressive and I love the way she performs it. Chester will always be Chester but Emily does it quite well. Cannot wait for the new album
Sounds like about 18000 fans mad she's a Scientologist lol. She is amazing and going to be a great part of LP and the future. So happy to hear them live again.
It feels kinda strange, she has a higher vocal range than Chester, then she doesn't sound much powerful singing lower. It works tho, not to be complaining.
@@leofox2691 In the first show, most of the songs were played in a higher key, because she sings higher than Chester. Now listening to Given Up in the original key, you can tell it doesn't fit really well to her voice, that's what I'm saying.
@@vinifariaslima I find that it's her high stuff that's the issue that and her raspy screaming her opening and Harmony are fine but them she pushes it and cracks
People trying to be nice or simps, but to me.. She is okay, but definitely not good enough for the old songs. I'm sure she is going to do a fine job with new stuff, which is written WITH HER style in mind. But the screams and growls of the old songs are just not there. This song particularly was is perfect example of that..On a positive note: LP has really stopped doing screams a loooong time ago. I'm pretty sure "given up" was the last song, where they had any screams in it. It's really just Hybrid Theory and Meteora + Given Up. She does have a rather interesting, raspy voice though. I feel like there is a divide between LP fans. The ones who listened to the band from their early nostalgic days (for me it was when they were still called XERO) and who like actual metal music and then there is the later fans, who came around AFTER their change from Metal to alternative rock or something. Pretty sure, most of their later fans are used to different music and don't also listen to Lorna Shore or Orbit Culture on the side ;)
Emily is a great addition to the band, nobody will EVER top chester but god damn am i glad to see linkin park doing it again, no matter who is on lead vocals. Emily did a great job and you’d be lying if you said she didn’t :)
I'd argue QWERTY is a much better test, because that requires constant switching from clean to scream. Given Up, even with correct approach which I don't see from Emily, almost always has to be split in half in concert shows due to the length.
@@TheCynicalAutist yeah, i guees it would be. But I also guess that she would nail that. She has the same talent, that Chester had - she is able to adjust the grittyness in her voice just as she wants. It is hard to be fair, but from what i heard from her so far, she is fully capable of doing so. With some practice she could do QWERTY too, i really think so.
i finally figured out what bothers me about her..she is talented no doubt, great singer but the missing part is emotion that Chester brought into it. Hopefully new songs will fit her better
This is the first time we have heard this song (live) in over 7+ years, i dont know if it was sang on the OML concert. and i didnt think we ever would again due to the song's subject matter. Its crazy hearing it again after the fact.
What's even more sad is these hater's circling around giving the band shit now are the same haters from 2007-2017 that gave Linkin Park and Chester nothing but hate which definitely did not help with his depression.
Quando eu vi Given up no setlist fiquei feliz por ser uma das minhas músicas preferidas, mas preocupada com a Emily dar conta. Mas ela mandou muitoooo bem, arrasou
I don't know why people are crying about Emily singing old LP songs. If Chester's widow gave her approval and open support for Emily on Instagram and Twitter, that should be enought.
Why can't anyone be objective? she's a wonderful singer, but she's not cut out for these songs and here I'm taking it out on Shinoda, instead of releasing everything at once they released the single with her first, then the album and finally the tour, it could have been done again more value to emily.
She is 38. She is going to lose her voice soon trying to sing like Chester. They should have picked someone younger who could go longer IMO. She is good though.
