Normally Incus containers do not have a desktop GUI. In this tutorial I show how you can add a variety of desktop GUI environments to an incus container.

Great example, thanks, but have you tried to take it one step further and mount /dev/dri/renderD128 and friends to effectively passthrough the GPU to the desktop environment?

I have not because I have no viable GPUs for that use case.

Can you ask Bambam if these desktop incus containers can also be accessed via a spice client?

Bam Bam says meow. I have been asking the developers that question and doing some of my own testing. Spice integration isn't trivial, but it's on my list.

That one came as a result of my adding a desktop to a LXD container about three years ago. I've had a few questions on how to do this. Interestingly, there is no easy way to add the "Spice" protocol to a container. Spice is the embedded protocol used for the GUI on Incus VM's and QEMU in general.

This fails horribly in Arch Linux. Are you using a true container with no GUI, or is it an actual container with a GUI, much like a virtual machine container. I have a container on the same machine as that I am attempting to connect from. I have install XFCE4, xorg-server, and all the other needed apps for Arch Linux. The host and guest are both using Arch Linux. Login succeeds, but the X server fails to load and create a new session. I can provide further details, if you choose to respond to me.

@@scottibyte It does work on Debian 12. I did also have to install dbus-x11, which I did not see in the video or article. Is it possible for you to demonstrate this on Arch Linux? Thanks much for your video, and your response.
