@@mitchelvalentino1569 I am also working on a new script that work in Mint or any Ubuntu distro for building minimized installs. Also, turning Snapd on and off, so you can use Snapd to get a piece of software and then kill Snapd and disable it. I just have to make sure that Snapd doesn't break your apt in the process (which is one of the things it does).

Thank you for the video! Canonical is partnered with Microsoft, that tells you everything. Snapd is currently only pointed to the Snapcraft store, however, at anytime it can be pointed to Microsoft. Snapd is so slow loading, even booting your computer is slow. Linux Mint is not a "beginner" distribution, it is just so polished that everyone, including beginners can use it. Linux Mint is very fast and rock stable.

Just switched to mint 20 from windows 10 and am very impressed with it. Very professional, hardware worked perfectly ootb. It's a huge improvement from Ubuntu, which I tried in 2006. I remember wrestling with that shit to get everything working. I think I had to remap audio ports, Ethernet didn't work out of the box, and there weren't amazing resources about how to do it. It's amazing all the love and effort that has gone into this software and it feels ready for prime time now. It feels like there isn't a huge activation energy needed to start a chain reaction of developers moving their software over and PC companies switching their hardware to Linux. Especially with zoomers growing up with phones and tablets, the imprint and familiarity of windows that used to be there probably isn't as strong.

Quick, somewhat off topic question: do you as a creator get more revenue if I watch the whole ad as opposed to clicking "Skip ads"? Sometimes I'm not in a rush and would be fine with watching a whole ad if I knew the creator were making more money. If if there is no more benefit for you by doing that then I'd be more likely to just click skip ads. Thanks in advance.

Snapd is a package installer when you get software. It contains all of the dependent programs needed to install the software item you wish. Unfortunately it is proprietary, meaning you cannot see inside, you cannot control it and if you use Snapd, you can only get software from the Ubuntu store. It installs behind your back and breaks your apt package. Inside Linux Mint, you can choose software to install without the worry of using Snapd or it installing behind your back without your consent.

Ritchie Valens snaps also force updates, and the updates aren’t always reliable. I’ve seen snap updates break many systems, including data center servers I administer. Meanwhile, the non-snap servers never had any downtime. The provenance of the source code for snaps is often problematic. I stay away from snaps whenever possible. For desktop computers, Linux Mint is stable and reliable, far less likely to cause headaches than Ubuntu. I’ve been using Linux since the 1990s. I’ve done Linux From Scratch and enjoy Gentoo in my homelab. Linux is my passion and profession. For desktops, Mint is the distro I use on all my company’s workstations. It’s the best general-purpose operating system I’ve ever used. The Mint 20 ISO files are now officially available on the Mint homepage :)

@gaurangshukla8235
@gaurangshukla8235 4 года назад
@@rectify2003 Redhat was hard? I thought its just another distro, I think you find it hard to use commands like ls, cd, cat, grep etc but they all are same in other distros too. You should install linux Mint. You can't learn linux command line in one month or even a year. You will learn it as you use it. So here is the thing: 1. Install Linux Mint, stay away with Ubuntu its designed to be used by normies who don't wanna try command line. And do things differently than other good linux distros. 2. Bookmark tldp.org its amazing, go to guides, and download intro to linux pdf. Read it(ignore the topics involving init as most distros use systemd) whenever you have free time. This guide will get you very far. 3. This might sound strange, give a shot to ArchLinux. You can watch tutorials if you want to for the first time. Its a huge learning opportunity you should not miss it. 4. Watch more channels like this one. I would highly recommend goind through Luke Smith's channel(I was amazed by his way of doing things like writing LaTex, writing scripts for getting weather, sound etc). 5. Knowing how to use command line doesn't make you efficient the more you use it the more you will learn about it. 6. Make reading documentation a habbit. If you do it from start you will not have to face problems later when you are trying to figure out something that other haven't.

I think best noob distro is Manjaro, arch-based distros are noticeably faster, and don't even talk about how slow fedora is..
@motoryzen
@motoryzen 4 года назад
Yeah..a noob is not going to want to worry about his distro breaking on almost every major update btw( and I don't mean a ONE time hardware crash or the like) Manjaro has had a bad history of updates breaking users systems and it's kind of been a 50/50 deal ( 50 % user's faught. 50% the manjaro team's) Manjaro may have become more Linux beginner friendly over the recent 3 years, but I wouldn't trust it to be a stable long term thing. Linux mint, however has proven itself very stable a choice of migration from Windows. They have literally only improved . Yes that improvement in overall performance and features may be the same or slower speed than some other distros regardless of ubuntu based, debian based, or arch based, but facts are facts. Linux Mint has had a long history now of tried and true consistent improvement in performance and user friendliness WHILE maintaining great stability at the same time. The Mint team has never sacrificed stability for something else. Why else do you think literally 90% of all linux-experienced youtubers still recommend it as one of the top 3 linux beginner distros? It....just....works...period. The ONLY real limitations with it, regardless of the desktop flavor ( xfce, cinnamon, mate) are the same of virtually every single linux distro which involves which Windows games and applications will work using steam and/or wine and/or with Lutris and that depends on the kernel, gpu hardware, wine version(s) as well as proton within Valve's Steam client.

2:30 - Your argument is weak here. 1- Those "random binaries" are not tied with Windows 10 OS. You have to open a web browser, browse the web, find the executable and run it where as snap store is heavily tied with Ubuntu Store. That's a whole another level. 2- Even if it is closed source code, I would trust Apple or Microsoft not being evil more than just a random guy. If a company were maintaining snaps, that would be okay for me. However, there is a factor of anonimity on the internet. You can just use psedonimity rather than anonimity not to raise any suspicion of who they actually are.
@motoryzen
@motoryzen 4 года назад
Your first point makes sense. However: " I would trust Apple or Microsoft not being evil more than just a random guy " ( facepalm). So you'd trust a random guy, who has yet to show any aggressive illegal and immoral behavior what so ever...MORE ....than two companies with a PROVEN history of disrespecting their own customers ( as well as OTHERS) 's 4th amendment rights in multiple levels across DECADES of time using multiple loophole methods of subterfuge ? God damn you're a moron. Please tell me you don't vote and operate motorized transportation on public roads. Get real. Trusting either one of those demoncrat-bought and sold morally braindead companies is as asinine as expecting BLM not to be racist every chance they get ( black , blue, purple , red, white, and any other color of person in the RGB covered spectrum of lives DON'T matter. PEACEFULL lives matter..btw) "If a company were maintaining snaps, that would be okay for me" That would be Ubuntu, duh. It's no secret and it isn't rocket science to confirm that.
