I speak about the latest #nvidia drivers that solved the #wayland flickering issue that had plagued #gamedevelopers for a very long time. I can use Wayland on #archlinux without a problem. This is due to the fact that the 555 drivers support explicit sync technology.

Well, we finally got the 555 driver that is supposed to fix wayand, it came thru my updates automatically!. So I switched to Wayand, with high hopes. Unfortunately, the 555 driver has all the same issues as any older Nvidia Driver, Steam is glitched out, I cant see anything unless I resize the window, also I have noticed the color settings in the Nvidia Server Settings panel are gone, aparently Wayland handles the Nvidia settings differently, so you get no dynamic vibrance. On the Plus side with wayland, you do get a Gsync tab to set it to always on, auto or off, which is nice and does work. I tested some games with Wayland and it does work well, the performance is on par with x11. Anyway, considering the bugs are not fixed I have no issue just using X11 for now. This is a common thing to think an issue is solved, but then, its actually not solved. The problems I face all seem to be steam related, perhalps wayland isnt the problem, but I am not switching to wayland until the Dynamic vibrance is available anyway

@@gamedesigneronline8029 So check this out, I got annoyed with X11 again as it has issues with multiple monitors, that will never be solved by the way, I tried Wayland again and.... Its perfect. I don't know how it got fixed, probably a Steam Update solved it. Not only do I have no issues, It doesn't have X11 issues. I can finally run 2 different monitors at different frame rates smoothly. I am very happy thank you

@@gamedesigneronline8029 So I've installed the driver, I'm glad it finally fixed the flickering under Krita. If they implement Pen Tablet Calibration in KDE 6.2 I can migrate to wayland. The Modprobe GPUFirmware Line, what does it exactly do? Is it neccessary for the driver to work properly under arch? I had to put in a modprobe line with ...PreserveGPUMemory... to fix/mitigate some strange wakeup hangy-bug that only occurs when the system locked itself after inactivity. When I manually lock the PC the bug wont happen. Haven't tested how scaling in games run now, setting KDE to "Let the Application do the scaling" seems to work better.

@@gamedesigneronline8029 I've tested the driver now, scaling under steam seems to work fine, Krita isn't flickering anymore. I actually have a problem under X11 where the lockscreen seems to hang for a short time when I wake it up after it has locked itself and turned the screens off. When it has been in sleep mode it doesn't have that bug. Wayland runs smoothly. I'm still on X11 until KDE implements Pen Tablet fine calibration in 6.2 for Wayland. Also I'm curious about the EnableGPUFirmware Modprobe entry, why is it needed, what does it fix? (I'm on vanilla arch)

@@GraniteFaun The EnableGPUFirmware, I have removed since I posted this video. It makes Wayalnd Smoother but it also breaks other software. You will experience frame drops in some applications while using Wayland, without the EnableGPUFirmware entry.

Also noticed that this modprobe command is breaking standby mode under x11 which is strange. So for the time being I'll not use this command.
