Playing the song in time has never and will never sound mechanical. It actually takes a somewhat decent musician to be able to refrain from improvising and possibly ruining the song by overplaying it.
@VeryScaryBiscuits

I've played this at church, and I found with this song, and a lot of songs, when you stick to the original drum parts, it can seem like you are overplaying A LOT. Sometimes things require more simplicity. And sometimes a little extra (for the sake of timekeeping). Time keeping is paramount, of course...peace

I tend to always have trouble with the intro...when music starts to build up and then on the drums it goes hats, hats, kick, kick, kick, snare, snare, snare. I know that's a terrible way to explain it thru a message but after that part I tend to get the rest of it pretty solid

@jimmybak6728
@jimmybak6728 6 лет назад
I hope you realize that there isn't just one drummer who plays everything. Bethel usually has another drummer playing bigger floor toms and auxiliary. Also that fill you're talking about requires three different tom pitches but his setup only has two. So...he technically didn't miss the fill. :)
@AaronLevyDrums
@AaronLevyDrums 6 лет назад
Totally aware of this. And there is a fill he missed going into the instrumental section before the last chorus, it's on the original version. But whatever, to each his/her own.

Jaime Morales When I was in Davids drum lessons at WorshipU, he and Bethel's sound engineer Chris Greely said that it gives the snare a bit of a beefier and more balanced tone than using the skinnier tip of the stick. I personally do it and I've noticed a huge difference in snare tone. Hope that helps!

Live Sunday Worship venicelion.com/nh/music2018/nh-9-23-2018/The_Lion_and_the_Lamb.mp3 my interpretation or what I threw in to the song. ha ha. I post Sunday Worship songs at VeniceLion.com/nh I'm working on using double bass pedals now more and more instead of beating on the floor toms. I have a quiet kit 1962 Rogers Holiday Jazz 4 piece (built in Cleveland Ohio and mellow sounding) with 20 inch bass drum and 14 inch floor tom and 12 inch wing tom so toms not loud and it took me 50 years to get the bass drum to sound real good. Holiday toms have built in adjustable mufflers which keeps them mellow. Bass drum using a Remo power stroke 3 got it dialed in finally. Of course like Greg Laurie said "Sheep are stupid", the music is to loud or the music is not loud enough. Thankful to be working with a good crew on guitar, bass, piano that can work it out to back up the singing. Still using the 1962 Rogers power tone snare with adjustable muffler, hidden snare bed, Remo pin stripe head with an addition of a muffler strip of cloth under the head stretched between the two top lugs under the Remo logo. Snare only has 8 lugs.

@Edrums326
@Edrums326 7 лет назад
Joseph Gonzalez gives the snare that extra "phatness"! Works well in the low tunings.
@AaronLevyDrums
@AaronLevyDrums 6 лет назад
No it gives it more "attack" Phatness just naturally comes from the snare. Even Mike portnoy uses the same method. Thicker end of the stick + imbalance of the weight = more force moving forward for a heavier attack.
