Nothing "assures their survival". The sad truth is 80% of lion cubs do NOT survive to reach Adulthood.

@@EpicAnimalFacts2023 Lions were my favorite big cats when I was a kid (though my cousin kept telling me "Tigers are stronger!😛"). But now, as an adult, I take a much less sentimental view of them. From what I've seen, lions are essentially the bullies of the African savannah, frequently stealing hard-won kills from smaller, weaker predators like hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs. And the way they treat each other is frequently very ruthless-lionesses abandoning weak, sick, or injured cubs; male lions killing rival males' cubs when they take over prides, etc. And that's not to mention the nuisance and occasional danger they often pose to humans. But we idolize them because they look good and sound cool. It's a sign of how superficial we humans are, if you ask me. 🙄
