When animals attack: A lion attacks the hunting party on a full charge lion hunting video.
During a dangerous game hunt, especially when hunting the big five, things can go wrong very quickly. When a lion charges one of two things could have happened to cause the full charge. Dangerous game animals when hunted can often times demonstrate what is known as a mock charge. This is when the animal charges but doesn’t come on a full charge with intent.
So what exactly happens when a lion charges? When a lion charges and it’s a mock charge and not a full charge, the lion charges but doesn’t have the intent to charge all the way and attack the hunter but rather threaten the hunter. Mock charges are a lot more common than a full lion charges. A lion often times displays dominance by showing aggression and mock charging, sometime charging multiple times but then backing down and not coming on a full charge and attacking the hunters.
What to do when a lion charges? The professional hunter plays a vital role in assessing whether the lion is displaying a mock charge or if he has decided to come all the way on a full charge. This is a life and death situation and a split second decision has to be made. When a life threatening full lion charge situation unfolds, the professional hunter needs to be ready to back up the hunter in the event the lion charge results in the lion attacking the hunter to prevent the lion from seriously injuring or even worse, killing the hunter.
So how does the professional hunter know whether the lion charge is a full lion charge or only a mock charge? When a lion charges a hunter there a specific signs that it displays while charging. You can clearly distinguish some of these signs in this lion charge video. After the lion had turned around and decided to charge it’s easy to tell that it is not a mock charge because the lion’s ears are flattened while it is charging at full speed the viewer can also observe the lions tail and it’s paws aiding in the speed of the charge and not only being used to heighten the display by slapping the paws on the ground whilst thrusting forwards and slapping the tail side to side with ears in a normal posture and body language not forward and aggressive in an attack mode but rather more upright in a mocking stance.
When is a lion charge deadly? If a lion is on a full charge attacking the hunter the situation already has become deadly. There are a few things that can go wrong at this point but once the lion charges and attacks the hunter the lion has the ability to kill the hunter in the blink of an eye. If the hunter and professional hunter was unsuccessful at stopping the charging lion and it attacks a member of the hunting party one of the most deadly and difficult situations presents itself to try and shoot the lion whilst it’s attacking. It is of utmost importance that the professional hunter backing up the hunter stops the lion charge in time before the lion charge turns deadly.
