My last 2 captions update: Pilipili is still 1, he will be 2 in less than 2 months on March 15. And I think that is an adult female roaring with Pilipili just below him at 10:26
Thanks! I enjoy filming them. I was just at LP Zoo today. The lions were kept inside all morning while work was being done on their outside habitat. To keep the pride happy they were given meaty bones to eat inside. When they were allowed out in the afternoon, they came out slowly and then they all got comfortable and went to sleep. So no video from today, but they all are healthy and getting along nicely. The trainers are keeping a close eye on the relationship between dad Jabari and his almost 2 year old son Pilipili. This is the age when friction can develop between lion fathers and sons. If that happens they will have to be separated and Pilipili will eventually be shipped off to another zoo. The LP Zoo lion habitat is was designed so that it can be split into two distinct habitats, just in case this happens.
Pilipili shows up at 9:30 in the video - he and Jabari are testing their relationship. So far as I can tell Jabari is taking the non-confrontational route. The zoo has placed a divider to separate the east and west sides of the habitat. Both sides are available to the lions now, but only thru their indoor habitat. If more friction develops Pilipili and Jabari, they will have to be segregated and eventually Pilipili will be sent to another zoo where he will have his pride of females.
@the1stmikec jabari is a very loving wonderful father!!! He is very patient in allowing his oldest son still live in his pride. Most fathers in the wild already kick out their sons at 1 yr old or by 2 yrs old.
Yes he is still 1, however around 2 years old is when friction sometimes starts between lion fathers and sons. Pili is a lot closer to 2 than 1. That is why I called him 2 year old in the video. In hind sight I wish I had put “almost 2 year old” in the video.
Jabari is a WONDERFUL LOVING PATIENT FATHER, he isn't so eager on kicking jabari out. Like most lion fathers in the wild would've already thrown their two year old sons out. Jabari has always been very affectionate to pilipili when he was a baby cub. Only when Jabari was collecting the meat bones in boxes last year, he was very selfish and so funny , kept slapping poor precious pilipili to stay away from the food, lol.
