So here is to ALL the idiots leaving such unfounded,ignorant and ridiculous comments ! I am one of the trails guides in this video and people embark on such bush hikes to experience wild Africa on foot . Very similar to what our forefathers would have done just around 150 years ago while trekking through these areas. No hunting was to take place on this hike in any event. This took place inside a game reserve that actually conserve all fauna and flora with the help of the fees paid by such tourists. We as the trails guides are very well trained and experienced to be able to do these hikes in a very SAFE manner for the animals and people.The rifles we carry are not out of our choice but regulations stipulate that we have to carry rifles with a minimum caliber of .375 when entering Big 5 conservation areas. On this hike both of us as guides carried .458 Winchester magnum rifles and not .22's as another idiot mentioned. After many years of doing this I am still alive and never had to shoot any animals during such hikes or had any loss of life of any guest. On this hike we were responding to giraffes looking at something with intent. The next moment the lioness chased some Impalas not too far away from us. As she was on her own her hunt was unsuccessful and she left the scene without taking much notice of us. Not many people can say that they experienced such amazing wildlife action on foot and in such a safe environment. If our presence had any negative effect on this scene we would have chased her prey away or gave away her presence to the Impalas. Nothing of such happened. All unfolded as if we were not there at all. And for the brave idiot saying that he will knock out the guide, you are very welcome to come and try, but there will only be 2 knocks then. The first is when I knock you and the second is when your head knocks the ground after I knocked you out! So good luck !

Well you have to remember that a lot of the people commenting are usa, so many are idiots...and I mean that In a serious sense, I have known many..many usa. Now I wish to ask you, after seeing that you at least are allowed to snap back to some level yet knowing full well you will not be able to answer freely and completely (pls push the limits)....How is it that ALL senior trackers, game wardens, guides, etc in any African country are white, descendants of the invadres? How can there not be African senior level guides, with all they have known for thousands of years before your predecessors ever decided to invade? Will you admit that the answer is clearly that the level of income to the country that this kind of tourism, as well as hunting big 5 or anything else, is so high that it will only be controlled by the descendants of the invaders who made sure the clutch on the people, resources and future would safely lie in the hands of those who took and only let go when the rest of the world, as well as those within these countries, pushed back so hard it was impossible to keep that same stranglehold held from the onset? Many people forget....and many usa never even knew, understood or realized (hence their general ignorance on world history and geography....or their own, in general) what life was AND STILL IS like for the vast majority of original dwellers there. Do not tell me that the gov. was forever changed 25 years odd ago....cos that does not fix in any way the 200 + years of you know what. You know better than myself exactly how it all worked, the loopholes, the vicious circles, reality itself. So, back to our need for info.....also, I have looked for info in the web but could not pin down anything directly relevant, so I will ask you given your obvious proximity, was there at any time and is there any kind of monthly/yearly allowance for killing of herbivors for the feeding of the locals who can barely get by? Millions of all kinds of animals that were hunted for thousands of years before your predecessors took everything still roam and could be used for meat. Pls do not tell me that this would mess up ecosystems and all that cos it clearly wouldn't, it wouldn't even mess with any of the tourism or hunting that the visitors sodearly pay for and help to sustain. It would be a great way of giving back to a needy population, free meat...so much per family per year, MILLIONS of animals walking around all year. I ask because I have no idea. Perhaps those culling expeditions...killing sessions of too many individuals over populating the area...result in free meat for the park workers and their families (All of them and all of you guys)? This would be a good thing. Perhaps there would be less poaching...not talking about the real poaching that is, demand coming from Europe and usa....yet rather the "poaching", illegal YET NOT IMMORAL, killing of animals by locals for meat, just as they had done for thousands of years before you know what. You work, earn a living and do your job as well as you can, no doubt and I am not attacking YOU, I am asking about things that you do not control yet can of course know about and even be involved in. The kind of job you have certainly requires a solid will to care for land and wildlife (I share that)...yet that does not always translate to a will for justice for people who for different reasons deserve help (those villagers who barely get by, I know and you know).

@@dng267 I am not in a position to answer for the hunting community as I am a FIELD GUIDE that deals with tourists within the eco-tourism industry. Tourists who come to South Africa to view and photograph our iconic Fauna and Flora. With regards to your question on why there are not more African black people acting as game rangers, or field guides with higher qualifications , well I will give you my opinion. There is NOTHING stopping anybody of any culture or race to get qualified in ANY qualification in South Africa.So maybe you should ask the black community why they are NOT INTERESTED in getting qualified as such or why they are not aiming for higher levels of education. There are 100's of thousands of black people studying at universities or other tertiary educational institutions but only a handful are entering any of those careers you mentioned.So the rest of your questions and statements are a little "loaded" to be frank. I would like to state In my opinion, that the fact that you refer to race in your questions just proves to me personally that the outlook of new South Africa are still based on race and not on merit. No one can change the past but every person can change their own future! We don't have to forget the past but should learn from the past mistakes. To me it seems the new leaders of South Africa's RAINBOW nation still sees different colors.That is why most South Africans still do the same.

I did this in Sabi-Sands adjacent to Kruger Park in South Africa. No sighting of lions though but maybe they had a sighting of us. Well managed big game encounter courtesy of two seasoned trail guides. Riveting experience for nature lovers prepared to walk the wilds. Minimal risk to people and animal. Humans and animals have been interacting on the African savanna for at least hundreds of thousands of years, not very often as respectfully - on the human's part - as this. It is shared territory, not some artificial, human-free landscape. This kind of close but careful appreciation figures as a meaningful contribution to conservation.

And I thought the perceived wisdom, when encountering a lion (lions) when walking, was to bunch close together, and stand perfectly still, behind your Ranger. The Ranger's comment that a lone female might well be guarding her young (cubs) was most probably correct, so she was not stalking you at all.
@poohgirl63
@poohgirl63 8 лет назад
+WildlifeObsessed The lioness was difficult to spot after our initial sighting. One ranger stayed in front and was watching for her while the second ranger was gathering us together and having us walk slowly backward toward a tree so that there was some protection behind us (unless there was a leopard in that tree haha). Lions are known to circle around and surprise their prey. It was a bit frightening but very exhilarating at the same time. It was the first time these rangers had seen a lion during a walking safari, so there was a lot of excitement all around.

Rubbish! that's not being one with nature! No such thing!!! Humans are humans and animals are animals. Two distinct and different classes.In the lions mind they are intruders.

1:07 Big fat guy walking with his back to the Lions after being told repeatedly not to turn his back to them. Brilliant! I can only speak for myself but if my obviously experienced guide has a 375 H&H mag (or similar) raised to his shoulder I might be inclined to listen to him very carefully. These tourist belong in a van. Lol
