Being that I'm a traditionalist I haven't gotten into too much of this legacy I'm a conventional man myself but I got to say this is a good looking piece thanks for the review Eric
Watching you use Legacy, it seems so simplistic and easy to use. I wish that there was something similar in other scales. Don't get me wrong, DCC works, but theres a steep learning curve involved in specifics when transitioning from DC.
Because I saw this video I bought the Lionel PRR 15" Streamlined Legacy StationSounds Diner and passenger car at York last month. I'm really enjoying the diner. Eric, thanks for posting this review. I didn't know Lionel had this.
Hey Eric, I think the whole train community should come together and think of a few ways to get more people into this hobby. I am 13 and just got into this hobby and it's one of my favorite hobbies. We can bring so many more people into our hobby if we all work together. Thanks for everything you do for all your viewers.
Getting young people into the hobby not impossible by any means, but it is difficult. Most kids these days would rather play video games or stare at the phones all day.
That's something I absolutely agree with, and I think as time goes on they will drop that "hobby" or pick up hobbies like trains. I think doing open houses will get more people into the hobby especially kids my age.
Kurtis Hooey Yea, but I think that it's not as bad as you think. I go to train stores about once a month and always see people in there 30s and 40s and on occasion will see kids our age. I'm not gonna lie I am really into girls😂but I make sure to separate the time. As far as video games I don't see a future for it. I used to play video games but it gets so boring and I think that people will get bored from them and that's when our hobby can grow. I think people in our hobby aren't doing as much as they need to to get more people in but I am trying to start doing what I can. Especially Reviews, I have a Instagram account (roundhouserails) and I have a RU-vid page that I am going to start using (roundhouserails) as well as showing my hobby to my friends. I am fairly popular so it's not hard for me to get more people aware. That's why I think the hobby isn't seeing many young people, because many young people don't know about the hobby or the cool things in the Hobby. So I am trying to get more people into this hobby! Don't worry about the hobby as much as you! It's going to work out just fine! Make sure to check out my Instagram page and I post on there daily!
Some say the hobby is in a death spiral . As the market shrinks because kids are glued to cell phones , prices go up . At a train show in NJ recently I saw few kids , and most were on their cell phones . As a kid under the Christmas tree in 1959 , I guess the question is if a cell phone magically appeared next to the track , would that fascinate me more than the trains ? RU-vid brought us to Eric’s Trains , so it’s a wonderful technology . But what I see about this obsession with cell phones , it is mostly a very anti-social tool and generally a waste of time . Trains teaches us about electricity , carpentry , painting , how to use tools and most importantly , family . It’s a wonderful hobby that is very much worth trying to get kids interested in . But will the hobby survive ? Yes , but it will in all probability get more and more expensive .
From experience, as someone who's got two 20th Century Limited and two Empire State Express StationSounds diners, it's really not worth it. The noise is cacophonous and the clickety clacks never sync so it ends up being overpowering and annoying, one with the sound turned up all the way is just fine.
So freakin AWSOME! Eric thank you for doing these videos. You are doing a great service for our hobby. That is one beautiful train! You really do a great job! I'm sure it takes a lot of your time but you are appreciated by many.
Hello Eric, Thanks as ever for your very informative videos. I am a "rare breed" Lionel guy over here in the UK. Brian owes you a drink since I get all my stuff from him as you recommend. He is very reliable and helpful. Just wish Lionel build quality was better; such a hassle/cost returning things under warranty from the UK.
FANTASTIC review as always Eric! There is nothing like a quality sounds car to add a ton of fun to a train and it looks like Lionel has hit another home run with these Diner cars! I preordered the UP version can't wait to get it LOL Thanks for the video bro and as always "Keep those trains rolling"
“The dining car is now open for the second seating” *”OH BOY, LETS GO!”* ah yes, the sound of a happy boy. I was born in 76’ so I was a few years late to the party, sadly today we have Amtrak service. I only ever rode on the Hiawatha and that was four or five years ago.
Hi Eric I bought one of these and discovered by accident that more dialogue was available with the sound of a little boy asking his mum if this was their train and its a beautiful locomotive etc. more acknowledgement from the conductor etc. I tried to show some of these on my channel. I do not have a great big layout, but its enough for my "man Cave" Great reviews Eric. I have purchased quite a few of Lionel Locomotives from your reviews. I generally have to wait about three weeks from the States to the UK for shipment. but as always worth the wait.
There are several dialogue scenes which I did not show, simply because I didn't want to make the video too long. What I showed was merely a sampling of some of the sounds.
I like the black man's voice on the Southern version. They did that too on the Southern Crescent station sounds diner car. Now they just need to add exhaust so we can add bacon scented smoke fluid, or maybe baked bread or coffee.
golly...this is hilarious.. coming from nothing but N scale..I am completely blown away by these rail sounds and the engine sound set.. I would be worth listening to all the other road names just to hear what they have done to make the dialogue area complimentary.. Tom
Hi Eric My comments were not a criticism, and I understand about making videos too long, I must say though the additional dialogue is not mentioned in the instruction booklet. I think as I have said before your reviews are the guidelines on which I base my purchases, (alas no longer allowed to spend my pension on trains) Many thanks again Ernie Stammers Essex UK
2:09 I thought there was an AFT sound car as well! Will you review the Vision line GG1 anytime soon? 3:45 do they usually say "Linghts?" 6:59 when you had this car opened, you should've filmed for putting in the figures! 17:25 I like the smoke unit! 28:18 I'd like to hear the sounds of the CSX car because all the CSX coaches are not common carrier cars!
Lionel deserves great credit for engineering the Legacy system when the concept was originally conceived, however the writing is on the wall; this entire system needs to be completely moved over to iPad control. All of the steps necessary to load/operate/understand would be so much easier and intuitive than anything that remote can offer, including future innovation.
ericstrains I have this rail king blue comet and it has a problem. When i plug everything in and power up the train the lights come on but they are very dim and there is no sound. the engine does not run and after being on for about a minute it triggers the circuit breaker on the transformer. Any suggestions? i bought a charger and tried to charge the engine. (didnt work)
Bought mine on epay and it doesn't have the button you show for Max/Min sound (chip). Also, the speaker is to the right of the Run/Program switch (which is next to the wheels on mine) and I just noticed that the door on mine is is narrower then yours and looks to be taller also. The interior though on mine looks to be much nicer with people seated at the tables. Any idea what this is about ?
You should definitely run this at the Piedmont Pilgrimage. It's fantastic. Also, it would be great to see your old Yellowstone running again (just saying).
Hello Eric, I hope you are doing well, let me ask something, if I transfer the sound apparatus from that passenger car to another car, can be an box car the sound effects will be the same? BTW post some tutorial videos like you made about switches etcetera. Thank you !!
If you were to transfer the sound apparatus to another car, which I wouldn't recommend doing BTW, the sounds would stay the same. So you'd have passenger sounds coming from a boxcar.
@Silchard Alves you might have already heard about this, but Lionel does offer freight cars equipped with sound effects. However, if my memory serves me right, they are under the Vision Line series, so they might be a bit more expensive. Just thought I'd leave a helpful tip :)
I think the voice could have been a little less cartoony I have ridden amtrak a lot and never was the voice like that of a cartoon. Not to mention the southerner sounds a bit stereotypical.
