barca 200 Venezuela had a full plan on stopping Messi ...so if they played everything through Messi they would’ve lost like how they did in the friendly...he would’ve had 3 or 4 players on him if he played like how he does at Barca ...so Messi just had to be there to add quality and be their captain ... but I’m happy his teammates could show up ...cause this means they have a better chance to win copa America if every one can provide...hopefully Messi can give us some magic against Brazil though he always plays well against Brazil

Its a fact he s getting old. His dribbling has deteriorated. Barely able to dribble past a single player. It's time for him to adapt his playing style just like CR7 did.
Messi is the GOAT. But he's tired from his incredible club season. This is the worst I've seen him look in a 4 game consecutive stretch maybe ever for club or country. But maybe the football Gods are finally looking out for him. Because he's carried Argentina in so many of these international tournaments especially in the early stages only to have some bad luck in the later stages and not score. Maybe them getting by with mediocre games against mediocre teams sets up nicely to get some luck and Messi shines in semis and final. Let's hope!
Kamen Entchev it not that he’s tired ...Venezuela had a full plan on stopping Messi like how they did in the friendly where Argentina lost ...if they put everything through Messi we probably wouldn’t have scored any goals...Argentina are playing it smart and I’m happy that they did this ... Venezuela based their whole plan on stopping Messi ...on the other hand Brazil base their plan on scoring goals and winning the match in their own way ...that’s where Messi will excel
He's had plenty of stretches where he's been poor, only difference is he's actually scored in many of those games to divert from his mediocre performances. Now, he's not playing well and he's not scoring either.
I LOVED THIS GAME Argentina showed they wanted to attack the ball and intensity increased, Messi wasn't dropping as deep as he used to, Lautaro had a fantastic game this is good this is the argentina we need to see in order to in the copa america, messi didn't have the best of games but that allowed the team to be more balanced if they perform like this against brazil they are sure favorites to win it.
A copa win will do wonders for his mental strength and will also wash out the pain and trauma of years with Argentina. Also the season end with barca might be affecting his performance, but this wasn't a good game from him and I can only recall like 4-5 such games..in the last 3/4 years.
Lautaro back heel 🔥🔥 He should have scored another. Argentina has new goal machine for the future. Lautaro 6 goals in 21 years... something that Leo and Kun did.
I agree but all that matters is if Argentina win or not, ppl don’t care how Messi plays if they don’t win. Look at copa 2016, probably messi’s best tournament for his country but was labelled a failure when they lost in the final. So it’s a lose lose really.
Bruce Jones Venezuela has s full plan on stopping Messi ...they proved this in the friendly against Argentina when Argentina got thrashed ...so it would’ve been stupid to play everything through Messi ...the thing with Venezuela is that they base their whole tactic on stopping one player and that’s their down fall ...now Brazil are different...they believe they are the better team and will play their own way to score goals and not base everything around Messi ..they will try to dominate the entire match their own way ...and this is where Messi has more freedom to play his own game and perform like the Messi we know and love
Sneaky Shark in reality though ..it’s doesn’t matter who scores ..as long as Argentina make it through to the next round ...but if Messi has a good performs it’ll get critics off his back ...at the end we just want him to bag an international trophy because he deserves something for all the work he’s put in all these years
not his best game so far messi hasnt reached his highest level in this tournament maybe its mental issue, the accumulated tragedy he has suffered with this nt affecting him, plus barca awful ending to the season he still hasnt recovered fully it seems. hopefully he has good game against brazil argentina will need him to be at his best if they are to have any chance at all
Lemon Tea and Venezuela had a full plan on stopping him and proved it in a friendly... so if they played everything through him they would’ve lost again ...Brazil are different..they play to win their own way because they believe they are the better team ...which they are ...and that’s where Messi is free to play his usual game ...for this game Messi has to stay back and help with build up play ...he obviously still tried to go for goals ...but I think for this match the responsibility was more on aguero and Martinez ...and they did so well..
His age is very noticeable, similar to the world cup. He's just a little too slow in situations where he used to thrive. It's a shame because even though Scaloni is a average manager this system with Messi behind two strikers means he gets more space and more options to combine with in the final third so if this was Messi from 2015 or 2016 he would have destroyed this tournament. But i definitely feel like Barca should play this system next season, 4-3-1-2. This means Barca can have a fixed system with 3 central midfielders again and then two strikers up front that Messi can combine with and also make passes too.
Messi is still the best player in the world in my opinion (goat) but I think it’s also noticeable that he’s slowing down abit sadly. As he ages he will go into a more attacking midfielder role and concentrate on assists.
he's not slowing down, he's just saving himself for the big moments. I feel that he's not giving his 100% in this tournament, and you have also to consider that he has played basically ALWAYS for Barcelona, whereas Lautaro is more fresh and didn't even play that much in Inter… You have also to consider the disgusting pitch (even Messi said it)
@@MirkoS1995 He's not saving himself lol. He was pretty bad in the world cup too. And there is a big difference between his performances in home games for Barcelona and then away from home. It's so noticeable that he's clearly much slower now and cant dribble nearly as well.
Messi needs to focus more. He came out after the game and complained about the pitches and how poor they are, but I see players like Aguero and de Paul controlling the ball well in tight areas. Messi on the other hand loses the ball frequently and seems to struggle with his first touch.
DatN Angel i did not say he is actually preserving himself, maybe he is just tired but it’s actually possible because he has preserving himself the whole year for big game but this just supposition
So happy they qualified to semifinal......so was their desperation to win it....... One thing they need to focus more on is to make good communication in the pitch
a lot of talk about poor performances and Messi fans' excuses. But do we really think he would not be interested? Don't be skin deep in your analysis guys. I believe that Argentina is approaching the tournament differently this time. A more controlled approach with respect to Messi's involvement. Notice how opposing defenses group together whenever there is a threat of him making potentially dangerous runs? This has always been the case and Argentina is trying to address that. The surfaces have not been the best as well. Deciding factors at this level. Last game Messi missed two sure chances, by his standard, simply because the ball hopped up before he made contact. His style needs a perfect pitch to deliver because he attempts very precise plays. Argentina seems to be using him to draw players and making timely, intelligent passes. Last game he slipped passes which were not capitalized upon for what ever reason. The pass to Di Maria close to the end of this game is another example of the plan and what he can deliver. The plan so far has not been pretty but it has been effective. Lets see what happens vs Brazil. Brazil is playing well.
