Amazing how a song can impact you, and bring back incredible and wonderful memories...... I sang this song to my sweet little 6month old son, and I still hear him laugh! He is now 29, and my heart still melts every time I hear this song
They played this at my friends funeral the other day with a montage of photos of her and her husband... I sobbed and sobbed. She left behind such a wonderful legacy.
Love this song, I miss the days when singers sang from the heart and when musicians actually played music, music was so much better in the 80's than now.
I’m 88 baby.. just heard this song the other day! Been on repeat ever since.. just lately I’ve been listening to 80’s soft rock. My boss from work got me into it. Shit is 🔥 Christopher Cross is dope as well lol anywho, y’all have grateful day! Much love from California ✌🏽
Everything about this tune gives me a lovely feeling inside, the beat, the video, the way he sings it and the tone of his voice.....PURE HEAVEN, LOVE IT!!! XXX
The gorgeous and fragrant Mandy Wright and i chose this as our wedding song in 1988. Been a favourite of mine since 1983. Guess what, we are still married and 4 kids later we still love listening to this song. Lionel legend.
Was that highlighting Black women comment meant to be sarcastic? LBS I mean considering the high majority of women (and people) in this vid are White. LOL
actually in Lionel Ritchie's old albums, the back up singer who harmonize with him was actually Richard Marx...that's how Lionel help him at the start...
For me, this is Lionel's finest solo moment, and even though I preferred him in the Commodores, for me, their best tune which was Brick House wasn't even a Lionel lead vocal.....
This is such a great song and video from my early childhood. I wish there were VEVO quality video of it on RU-vid. This video should have more views. It’s one of my favorites from Lionel Richie.
I keep seeing comments like that about the fashions then but I just don't get it. Today we're basically living in a "People of Walmart" world where 99% of the population would qualify for that page. It's the era of the great American slob. People 25-30 years ago are a damned sight better that anything I see when I step out my door now. This video is great. I love seeing normal, decent looking people again.
"You Are" Baby you'll find There's only one love Yours and mine I've got so much love And needing you so My love for you I'll never let go I've got so much love All I want is to hold you Let me show how much I love you baby (show you) I don't mind and I don't mind (loving you) Girl I love you There's no one above you [Chorus:] You are the sun You are the rain That makes my life this foolish game You need to know I love you so And I'd do it all again and again Tell me it's true I can't believe you do what you do I've got so much love And my love you'll see We'll stay together, just you and me I've got so much love Only you (know me) Tell me how to love you baby (show me) I don't mind and I don't mind (tell me) Girl, I love you Always thinking of you [Chorus] I know you know the way I feel And I need your love for always Cause when I'm with you I fall in love Again and again and again, baby. [Chorus]
I'm usually a big rock 'n roll fan, but this song really touches my heart. I like like Lionel Ritchie more than Barry Manilow. Lionel's singing is excellent. Nothing further. :)
I'll always love this his music it has guided me through my ups and downs in my life loving a good woman and then losing her in the process... the bad thing about the music scene today is you will never see love songs like this ever again being in love for real is gone sorry to say everything is fast, fake, quick fast and a hurry I've been out of the game to be for two years and I definitely want to get back in but not in a hurry to do so there's too much out there and some of it is not a good thing but if I want to take my mind back in the days well I just go to RU-vid and pull up a old love song and just listen
When this song first came out, my little brother referred to it as "The WHOA-WHOA Song". I thought he was an idiot until I paid closer attention to the chorus. Start listening at 1:22, you'll see what he was talking about. ;)
I like to think I am lucky for being 18 and enjoying the classics from the 70's and 80's. I only have my mother to thank for raising me on R&B and classic rock so that I didn't grow up to be one of those kids who think that the new shitty music is good.
Lionel Richie’s first solo single was “Truly” (1982) which went to #1. “You Are” (1982) came next, giving the performer an uptempo song with energy. This is an “I will love you forever and give you the world” piece, with lyrics filled with metaphors to describe the lady of his life. We even learn that she is (metaphorically) both the sun and the rain❕ Richard Marx sang backup on this track, which required deft background vocals. Marx claimed : “Every session I ever did with Lionel, or for him, was a very fun atmosphere. I’ve been on so many sessions where it’s a downer, and you just try to get through it and nobody is having fun. Lionel is always having fun - no matter what.” A video was created for “You Are,” but MTV ignored it. The network didn’t give BLACK ARTISTS significant airtime until Prince and Michael Jackson broke through‼️ THAT BEGS THE QUESTION : since Prince and Michael Jackson are no more, what now⁉️ 🖤🎹🤍
