Lionel Trains 2024 Catalog Review 

After years of searching I finally get to order a Mars light 765. So pumped

Man you really hit the nail on the head about this catalog. I am a Lionel guy for 40 some year. Lionel makes it hard not to call out there paint and some quality issues. We won’t even go into pricing lol. Having worked in the business now retired. Guys with their predictions or wish lists for this catalog might as well have just read the dealer advanced information on what was is in the catalog. Dealers get that information 2 to 3 weeks before the catalog release 😅. You don’t have to look in your crystal ball just read the dealer advance info. Some dealers are pretty free with this information. Funny how this dealer info gets out so guys can do their predictions. 😂

The sticker shock is palpable. Makes me happier to buy used locos and rolling stock and Menards' affordable freight cars. Was really tickled to find an EP-5 electric with a horn for less than $100 the other day. No modern bells and whistles, but it runs fine and the horn goes toot-toot so I'm happy.

Dang it Zac. I like to think I had a hand in you ordering the 20th last year and now you’re starting to get me back. 😂 You already convinced me to change out one of my normal NS ES44s for the B&O heritage last night on the Discord (he’s right by the way, we always have fun there) since I’ve seen it myself, but then you had to go and make the point it needed a normal to go with it. So now I’m looking at the COG, a normal NS, the B&O, and a normal CSX. Great video as always.

Good overview. Don't sleep on the H-7. You don't want to be watching my videos of it next fall kicking yourself for not getting one lol. Im def getting at least the all black C&O one with large Vandi tender. I think the Royal Blue set and woodsided cars are a nice set. The E-6's are very nice, def a good option. Looking forward to seeing what you end up getting.

Sorry if this question answered- but those crazy marker lights? Has Lionel ever acknowledged the brightness issue and any desire to address? You’re right on with the color issues again no resolution, QC or frankly giving a damn. Enjoy your no BS approach!

heres a fun fact D&RGW Triplex Locomotive was a proposed Triplex steam locomotive by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and The Denver and Rio Grande Western's Triplex Locomotive was proposed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works after they had built the very first three triplex locomotives for the Erie Railroad in 1914 and they were planning to build this locomotive for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. but unfortunately The reasons to why Denver and Rio Grande Western's Triplex Locomotive wasn't built was because of the issues with the Erie Railroad's P-1s and the Virginian Railway's XA when they couldn't go as fast as their top speed was about 10-15 mph, with the Virginian Railway's XA reaching 3-5 mph or even as high as 10 mph.

This year will definitely be a Conrail year for me, I’ll be picking up the GP9/9B and the U28C. Both are great offerings for some of us with smaller layouts.

Good review Joker I like your choices, IMO Lionel makes the best ES44ac, you can never have too many of them. The CP ES44 is calling my name, but I will wait and see in case they botch the paint color. The fixed pilot option on the E6 is a very interesting feature, never seen that on a Lionel Diesel. I hope you get one and review it. The pricing on the semi scale extruded aluminum passenger cars is outrageous. I don't own a set, but the ones I have seen have horrible windows which protrude. For Almost the same $$ you could purchase full a scale prototypical passenger cars from Golden Gate depot.

i want some nice passanger cars but i cannot pay these prices. i'll find something second hand or pay more/similar for 3rd rail when i decide to do it. great video. love the music in the background.

Like your honest reviews .. will get 2 of the BNSF es44s. Out of spite, I did order the plasma blue Berkshire (on Lionel's website) and will get the matching passenger cars. Worst case, I'll hate it and sell in a year and make $900/$1200.

The royal blue wood sided passenger cars are the same cars Lionel is using for the Halloween passenger cars Lionel is going to make to go with the Halloween Triplex. Charles Ro has them deeply discounted for preorder. And their after preorder price will probably be the same as most dealers preorder price.

So the aluminum cars actually do have passengers and new interiors now and the end car got some updates. Now the end car is the station sounds car so that 4pk includes a station sounds car. Yeah the price is a little fucky but I’d rather pay too much for aluminum cars than the plastic 21” cars IMO even though I bought the whole empire builder set. I’d like to but the 49er set but I’m curious if pat’s will do the black bonnet on those.
