Usually only have enough air to fill one anyway. I think I read that somewhere. Sometimes they carry a big fat tent looking one. It looks to hold maybe triple than thatbof the, " Zookeeper " tube. 🥰

A big shout out to these guys , who are doing Gods work . Pay no mind to the armchair critics who arent happy about some stuff . Let them get off their ass and go get a haul for themselves . Keep up the great work . Its great to see all the small fry surviving , despite the presence of these voracious devil fish .

I have no idea why they picked that rock in particular, but I have noticed that they do tend to be in close proximity to each other. I always say "The easiest way to find a lionfish is to find a lionfish, then look around."

I still can't believe this has happened. I took such good care of my pet back in the Seventies, he ate NINE goldfish a day. I cant imagine dumping him in the sea. I am not sure that is how this began.
@cosmicmuffin322
@cosmicmuffin322 6 месяцев назад
Scientists have traced Atlantic invasive lionfish's DNA back to a handful of individuals near Florida. The two theories are people dumping their pets in the ocean, and/or lionfish who escaped oceanside aquariums during Hurricane Andrew.

How much money do you get for this? Is it profitable? Looks very fun. (I'm a diver as well, but only fresh water so far.)
@spearandspine9970
@spearandspine9970 Год назад
This was part of a derby, for which there was an entrance fee and prizes for biggest/smallest which I didn't win. So not profitable, despite being very fun, beneficial to the environment, and yielding tasty fish to eat. Same with my Oriskany video, spent a lot of money on the tank fills (trimix is expensive), the boat ride, and transit/lodging, to get 35 fish, along with a commemorative medallion and rashguard for reaching the first tier of the FWC Reef Rangers Summer Lionfish Challenge. Very much a labor of love and not something for which I can justify quitting my day job 😅. That said, when I lived in Florida and killed them regularly, I got my FL Saltwater Products License ($50/yr) and was able to sell them for $6-7 whole. I just did it to recoup my dive money, but there are some commercial spearfishermen, like Rachel Bowman and Alex Fogg, who are MONSTER lionfish hunters, bringing in hundreds of lbs. I am also (slowly) trying to get this channel off the ground to try to recoup money so I can do this more often, and subscribers help a lot with that!

kewl... thank you for your efforts... makes you wonder what foolish asshat decided to let these things "swim free" in waters where it has no preditor. Responsible SWA owners dispose of the fish, I had the Black Volitan and it got me on the back of the thumb just below the thumbnail and went nearly paralyzed to the elbow and on fire to the shoulder... its demise was a hot tap water dunk, the temp difference was a shock to it and it quickly passed.. I clipped of the spines and wrapped it up with an old dish towel and disposed of it even tho I had the opportunity to let it go... letting live non local fish go is where " the life of the one fux up the lives of the many"... another example of a major screw up is the snakehead fish in Florida and cats in Austrailia/New Zealand etc....

It's baffling that it's become such a problem! And the fact that they've made their way to the Mediterranean as well. Maybe if I get enough subscribers I'll head over to Turkey or Greece and kill some there too

Is hitting the rocks damaging to the reef also ?
@spearandspine9970
@spearandspine9970 Год назад
Rocky substrate is fine, hard and soft corals are obviously not good to hit. I make sure that I'm hitting the former and not the latter when I'm lining up a shot.
