Are people complaining about "soft" m390 on this? It's a slipjoint. People are too bitchy. You're not doing hard cutting with this. Guess someone will be pissed because this comment is dickish.
@FearNoSteel
@FearNoSteel 5 лет назад
You have that backwards. It's a thin slipjoint for cutting not batoning, run it hard and take advantage of the m390 rather than a cash grab on the steel name.

Thanks for video. I have this knife in ebony. Very happy with it even if it did come a bit rough on the edge. Also bought the double blade version in santos. Here the blades were perfectly sharpened. A bit hard to pull out the blades though since you actually have to use your nail here (can't grip "around the blade" since there're two of them).

ah thats interesting about the second blade altering deployment. definitely a consideration!

I really like this. I have 2 'traditionals' : a Maserin gifted to me by our good mate Jack FarmBoy and a Buck 500,which I guess would be described as a 'modern traditional'. I love Maserin but don't carry it often. The B500 is okay. A few fit and finish issues, but I'm not prepared to freight it to the US to get repaired/replaced. Also, a little heads up. Don't play with a Delica or a knife with a detente and then play with a Buck 500 or even a 110. You may do what I did and snap it just on one of your digits. They snap deep. One last thing, I bought a Case once, and sent it back. The worst fit and finish on any knife I've purchased. Great review, Pete. I'd probably buy one these. They look good (in my eye.. but not in my eye).

@SuperSteelSteve 5 лет назад
@@CedricAda I dont know 🤣🤣🤣 Same edge geometry, same edge finish. M390 has 22% carbide volume Vtoku2 has 6% carbide volume max M390 is a PM steel Vtoku2 is an ingot steel What on earth could possibly make vtoku2 ,a chemically inferior steel, out perform m390? 🤣🤣🤣 Higher HRC? 🤔🤔🤣🤣 I don't wanna say Lionsteel does bottom tier m390.... might get sued 🤣🤣🤣 But since you said it.. yea... definitely bottom tier mreeeee90 lol. 👊👊👊

I want a traditional slip joint but one I can open one handed.... does that exist??
@desertfoxxx98
@desertfoxxx98 4 года назад
No, the slip-joint makes it impossible to open one handed on a traditional.
@jeffblackford1938
@jeffblackford1938 4 года назад
go to blade HQ. They have plenty of traditional non-locking knives that have a thumb stud on them so you can open them one handed.

There is something very appealing in kinda of a slick way but at the end of the day for a user knife with squared edges just goes against the grain of what a knife needs to be to melt in your hand, a classic example of design over function, but I still like it, Lol, I typically avoid olive wood because unless you can personally select it you can commonly get one that is very bland looking, yours is very nice in respect that it has some figuring.

I have their barlow with the spear point. After buying Case knives for the past couple years (I'm not buying another knife from that company until they give a shi* again) My Lionsteel showed up extremely well built.

I like the looks, and have come to trust Lionsteel, and it fits my recient "affair" with slip joint traditional knives. Even the squared off shape is appealing (brings to mind the Emerson A100) ...all good. If this becomes available in my area, I might give it a go. Very good and unbiased review, and maybe a bit careful also!

Thankfully it's a reasonably simple & straightforward scale shape. A buddy of mine made some really beautiful scales for his out of a batch of zebrawood we had in the workshop. It was a little finicky dialing in the fitment lengthwise as we were going for zero gap between the scale & bolster but oh so worth it when it was assembled, polished, and oiled.

Wish it had a pocket clip. I picked up the lionsteel leather pocket sheath with clip for the knife and it works nicely. Carry it when a "tactical" knife isn't appropriate.

If this doesn’t disassemble, like the roundhead/shuffler, which it looks like it doesn’t, that’s a deal breaker for me. I don’t mind exposed screws on the BM Proper, because they allow me to disassemble it. I would prefer not to have exposed screws, but I don’t mind them if they allowed disassembly. These don’t.

Knifecenter has them as well plus there’s a two blade version which makes the double ended bolsters seem ‘right’ www.knifecenter.com/item/LNBM13ST/lionsteel-bestman-bm13-traditional-folding-knife-m390-clip-point-and-wharncliffe-blades-santos-wood-handles-with-titanium-bolsters

Hi Pete! I love your videos! Kind of new on being a steel nerd, was wondering what are your thoughts on damascus steel on their edge retention and corrosion resistance? What are they similar to? Maybe 1095? Or A2?
@natek1993
@natek1993 4 года назад
All Damascus is different. Most damascus knives are designed to be an art piece rather than a good cutting tool. There are some reputable manufacturers that make highly performing damascus for knives (like DamaSteel and others). However most damascus steel is junk, (especially any cheap damascus knife on Amazon or Ebay) made with which ever 2 steels the maker can get to pattern weld and forge together. Ability to keep perform and keep an edge is not what it's made for. Your Average knife steel and especially Super Steels will out perform and cut for days over any damascus steel. However it does look cool.

Yes, it would be nice if Lionsteel would make available spare scales that one could trade from time to time on the same knife (incidentally, that would be the reason for having the scales fixed with screws and not pins, as is the case of traditional slip joint folders...). However, those are not available from Lionsteel.

I have one nit-pick . . . the handle is completely symmetrical, and I have to sort of do a double-take to see which way to open it. FYI - the 2-blade version is ridiculously fat, I sent that one back.

The best thing about traditionals is that they don't freak people out when used in public. They just don't instinctively read as weapons unlike a lot of modern pocket knives. Flip open a ZT in the lunch room and someone is liable to call security, take out a GEC and people will look at you as a trustworthy gentleman just like grandpa.

Stosszahlansatz. The theory that if you place two drivers anywhere in Georgia, they will eventually find each other and crash.

Though I had a few in my younger days, slipjoints in this day and age do absolutely nothing for me, I find them awkward in use and much less sturdy for rough work; add to that many lack a lock and it's a big NOPE for me. Appreciate the review, Pete.

I bought a twin blade one (it’s on my channel, plus I reviewed a single blade) and really like it. I went for carbon fibre because I thought it went better with the titanium. I bought a Quiet Carry, Tew West off your review. There’s only you and me that have reviewed it!
