I have the H1 and love it. Honest I usually don't put my finger in the ring, I hold it normal; I find i have a much better purchase on the handle that way, it's more stable. However I do find it quite useful when I'm working with it. Normal if I'm doing something like cutting and tying cord to secure something, or any time I'm cutting then handling, cutting, handling, etc. I would normally spin the knife around so I'm holding it in reverse grip when I need to tie the cord after cutting, so the blade isn't getting in the way and I don't impale my eye if I go to scratch my face. With this I have my pinky in the ring and let it swing down and hang: it allows me to have my whole hand free. I do wish either the ring was smaller, or they didn't crown it like they do with the spine. Because it's such a large ring and rounded it has a tendency to want to skip off. I carry it as an EDC, I don't carry a knife with the intention of it being a weapon. I know many like thinner blades and geometry so it'll slice better, but I find that I require a blade to be strong more than I need it to make paper thin cuts; I end up using a knife to pry open cans more than I need it to slice. I like the sheath, but bought an armory kydex sheath for it. While I do wear this on my left hand side in the front, I find it all but useless for scout position. I'm right handed and the only way to wear it on my back is upside down, and I've already ruined sweatshirts and jackets by cutting them when I draw it out with the edge up. Even if I were to wear it in a traditional on the hip position, I wear it with the edge pointing forward as opposed to the spine forward. It's MUCH easier to get it back in the sheath by holding it reverse grip and sliding it in. The other way is awkward; you have to pull your elbow back to be able to drop it into the sheath that way. I didn't like the look of the kydex that Lionsteel offers; it looks really unbalanced with the two straps positioned at the blade like it will droop down; really handle heavy. The Armory is much better designed.
I was deciding between the H1 and H2! I generally prefer leather over Kydex all things being equal, but there are some amaizing custom kydex makers out there for sure.
I have been carrying the H1 for about 2 years now. I don't know why you would hold this knife with your pinky finger under the loop, instead of inside of it.
I have a much more stable grip holding it normal. With the ring I'm basically in a three finger grip. I do use it when I need to get the blade away from something, but in general I find it really limiting when I put my finger on the ring.
