Hi Apostle P, Thanks for the great review and for the education you provided about the sharpening choil. You sir, are a PRO! I learn so much from your videos. May God continue to pour out abundant blessings in your life. Sincerely, Steve Bates
That part about the choil is EXACTLY why I subscribe to your channel. There's no other reviwer on RU-vid who'd even notice. Designers and consumers both forget that a blade is, no matter how much we don't want to think of it this way, a consumable. It should be engineered such that it can be user-maintained to keep as close to peak performance as possible throughout as much of that consumption as possible. I really appreciate that you educate your viewers about this.
Literally walking to the front office of my apartment complex to pick mine up as I was watching this video. Knew you had to have a video coming of these and glad to see you like them! Very anxious to see how the stag on mine turns out so wish me luck!
I am now holding a "Nitpicky Cull" in my hot little paws. Darned if I can figure out why it was culled, but if a fellow Okie wants to give me a 15% discount on a killer little modern slipjoint, I certainly won't argue! What a sweet little knife.
Me encanta ese modelo gracias por mostrar , estoy pensando en adquirir en horn , tiene unas medidas perfectas y un acero increíble, la llevaré también a mi canal pero de momento me quedo aquí en el tuyo 😉gracias amigo
Oh man that thing is beautiful... I've been wanting to get into traditional knives and this is perfect. It would make an awesome review to mix things up on my channel as well... Now I have to figure out a way to get one... Time to rob a bank!
The Santos wood one was priced the lowest at $100. I love mine. My CF (and my friends) isn't perfectly centered, but it doesn't bother me. My Wood one was dead nuts. I LOVE this knife. Both mine were pretty dull - I only sharpened my CF so far and took it to 20 dps and had to do a bit of reprofiling. There was a bit of flaring at the heel on mine that I had to fix. my shoulder also shows a small nick... it's SUPER sharp now. I love the edge M390 takes.
Great review and attention to detail Rob. I was lucky enough to get a dark ram horn version which seems pretty consistent with the quality of these. Little bit of a heel, but no belt grinding on tang or kick like the one shown here. I will have to send mine to you when it is ready for a reprofile/sharpening.
Very interesting take on these. I like it.........I don't "love it".........but I do think it's a great idea overall. Handsome blade shape, although it woulda been nice to see the main grind a little thinner behind the edge, but I'm sure she'll work as is. Probably gonna be a good seller, especially at that price.
The reason it appealed to me is it's a traditional with modern blade steel and is affordable. Queen offers modern steel but quality is no where near the Roundhead. The Case/Bose collaborations $300-500. I bought the Rams horn and I love mine.
I did notice that some of the screws, on the covers, are rounded and some are flat. Maybe it's that the ram horn, stag and so on are rounded while the CF and wood covers are flat screws.
After years of sharpening the edge goes back but the notch is stiil there, isn't it? Even if the notch is halfway gone the it will still rest on the stop pin. I do not see the problem to be honest. Love your reviews all the same ;-)
very knowledgeable review . for me the blade tang shows too much my pet peeve. and didnt care for the steel bolster looked on the vid like cheap aluminum and kind of boxy just me. thanks again get so much from your reviews .
Beautiful locking italian made pocket knife - And nice review TheApostleP. The stupid is only that they will not be sold in europe...... CK exclusive.... only US. That's so sad for us knife collectors in europe.
Kurt Andrews he has a video laying out his sharpening services on his main page. Does an excellent job. Well worth the 25ish plus shipping both ways. Not sure what the choil work would add to that price.
Thanks, I've been working on which knives I want to send him for a while now. I'm waiting for one more to arrive in the mail. I decided to add the Roundhead because of the issues he talks about in this video and I don't think I have the skill to handle it myself.
I had really, REALLY high hopes and interest in this knife and am very grateful you reviewed it, but Lionsteel lost me at the 25 thousandths behind the edge. In a small traditional pocket-knife with a steel that hard, I want nothing less than a pocket scalpel. It's not like it's going to be used for heavy work and CERTAINLY isn't going to be expected to fulfill any tactical role. For my purposes I'd want to dial that edge back to at least 16 degrees, and I'm not interested in blowing through a full set of lower-grit EP stones to remove a fifth of that M390 blade.* This came SO CLOSE for me. Oh well, the search continues... *I'm obviously exaggerating, though I worry not by much. Also, even after I finished it'd still be too wedge-y for my tastes.
I'd rather just buy a modern folder and be done with it, that being said, I'd most likely have another look at the knife, if it came out in a Clip Point Blade ..LOL
jbradley500 Good eye 😉. I thought I'd try to get the most out of the M390. I couldn't go more acute with the thickness and choil design, and I didn't want the angle of attack more obtuse than 18.
