you probably could, but the Nitrogen is so much cheaper!!! We used close to 24 "T" sized cylinders total for this video... so we were trying to cut costs anywhere we could! Although if we used Oxygen it might have turned into an oxygen-sand-bar : )

I’m making a miniature one for a project for my schools and I have found you can use air compressors if wanted

what nick is failing to anwer.. you could use compressed air so yes any gas like nitro , oxygen, propane etc etc would work to create that kind of effect, but some might not be safe;) SO: some pressure tanks and a compressor would probably be best for a more permanent solution... this nitrotank thing they did was just to get some footage for a video..

you need a relatively big compressor because you need some airflow, but you could fill up some pressuretanks like the once used in the video with some compressed air out of relatively smaller compressor instead and use the tanks like a "battery".
