Finally, someone that uses the same color pallette as I do! 🙌 I like that we can get a good range of colors from these 6 primaries.

Good review, thanks! I’ve been watching reviews of acrylic gouache because I’m considering buying some. I have traditional gouache now like you…WN and love it. I think the characteristic of very fast drying time with acrylic gouache is both a negative AND positive and also that YOU CANNOT REWET it once it fully dries. It is like acrylic in that way. But I can see that painting a background with acrylic gouache, allowing it to fully dry and then being able to paint over that background with no worries of lifting could be wonderful! I am somewhat leery of Liquitex Gouache, that a Jerry’s Artarama review said that he believes it shouldn’t be called “gouache” due to its thin consistency and lack of opacity. It really is a different animal than true gouache, whether traditional or acrylic. But it may have its good uses for many artists…and I love the spouted containers. Again, thanks for a helpful review!

Enjoyed this! Love your work. I'd love a review on brushes and more on your process of layering. Maybe on mixing paints, storing acrylic paints for longer use, thick body vs fluid pros and cons and uses. Enjoying seeing you and hearing you and listening to your thoughts!

This Kiwi admirer/subscriber bows down to your amazing talent & ethereal works of art. This was really helpful & I'd also love to know more about the brushes and pens you use and perhaps a review of your favourite Golden fluid acrylic colours. Anyway I would watch you all day long if I had the chance & who knows - when our world returns to "normal" it would be amazing to have you visit us here in Aotearoa & see how our backyard inspires you! I'll even make you my world famous pav!

I'm guessing your experience was definitely impacted by your "normal" way of painting and adding lots of water, and a person new to acrylic gouache may not do that. Your painting was gorgeous, by the way. I would have loved to have more time to see the whole composition, but really lovely colours and composition. Holbein has an acryl gouache too, probably more professional level. I sort of got the impression that acryl gouche's main benefit over the original goache is that it dries permanent, so you can paint over the previous layer without changing it. I think doing product tests and comparisons is of great service and benefit to artists old and new, and there are always new products coming out. It would be nice for companies to send you their products to test! Thanks for this, Clair!

Turner makes a great quality acrylic gauche in a cost effective 86-color set.

Loved this review and well done on acrylic “pause” gouache. I have some and I might try it with acrylic titanium white ? I’d love to learn about glazing. I’m a self taught artist and I really don’t understand this process. I also got a basic set of water soluble oils, have you tried those?

😂 I can’t believe how much I struggled saying Acrylic Gouache. I have some Windsor and Newton titanium white gouache and I used that with them while playing and it was much better. It’s a thicker consistency so I was able to make them more opaque with that.

@@ClairBremnerArt i just say "gou" (rhymes with "you") and "ache" (rhymes with "gosh" but with a bit of a longer "a"). It was funny watching you repeating it - how many of us do that with weird-sounding words!😄

Have you tried Holbein Acryla Gouache? Would love to know your opinion on how that compares to Winsor & Newton Designer's Gouache.
@janinafisher101

I've heard the Holbein is good - and it's acrylic gouache. Not old-style, like Winsor & Newton. So a different product, really, with some similar qualities.

Hi Clair. New to your videos and really enjoying them. Regarding the acrylic gouache, do you think that using an acrylic "flow" formula with the addition of a matte medium would give the same results? (-: Marion
@ClairBremnerArt
@ClairBremnerArt 3 года назад
Hmmm… possibly 🤔 I don’t really use mediums that often with my acrylic paint but I think it would work in theory LOL
@castle6611

Can you add acrylic medium to make thicker?
@ClairBremnerArt
@ClairBremnerArt Год назад
Hmmm… I’m not sure actually. Since it is acrylic gouache then I guess you could add a thickening medium to it 🤔

How is acrylic gouache if you work in multiple layers and detailed work? I’m trying to find a paint that works well for multiple layers on paper. Regular acrylic paint doesn’t look so good on paper.

It is very similar to acrylic paint, except it is mat instead of glossy. So the results would be very similar. I find that gouache is easier to blend smoothly compared to acrylic though
