This appearance led to her being asked to audition for the part of Roz on Frasier a few years later. She actually got the part. Then, after screen testing the show in front of an audience, she was let go because of chemistry issues, and Peri Gilpen got the part. She was heartbroken, but, only a short while later, she auditioned for a little show that ended up being called Friends and the rest is history!
Nothing against Lisa, but I'm honestly glad they went with someone else for Roz. Peri just fit that character perfectly. And Lisa fit the part of Phoebe perfectly. It really was meant to be.
@@SkiesTurnedGrey Agreed. I can't imagine anyone but Peri. And I just love her on that show. In the end, it all worked out great for everyone involved.
@@KevinDoyle-r1w Ummm, hate to break it to you, but at least half the sitcoms of the 80s and 90s dealt with issues regarding LGBTQ+ rights and racism. All in the Family, Golden Girls, The Jeffersons, Designing Women, Fresh Prince, One Day at a Time (original and remake), Kate and Allie, Three's Company, even Cheers and Frasier. Just to name a few.
@@MrParkerman6 Yep, Lisa just dyed it blonde for her role as Phoebe in Friends. Because, her character had to appear more luny to fit the spiritual part.
@@dvchel Not true at all. Lisa Kudrow played Ursula, Phoebe's sister, on the sitcom Mad About You which came before Friends and she had blonde hair then.
@@BOB1974_ Yes, but she didn't dye her hair blond in Friends purely because of her role in Mad About You. It wasn't until halfway through season one the decision was made to let the two sitcoms intertwine and thus let Ursula appear as well. Bearing in mind there were several months between Phoebe's appearance in Mad About You and Friends. It was a matter of coincidence that Lisa Kudrow was chosen for the role of Phoebe after going through three audition rounds, more than the other six cast members, and the decision happens to be made to let Ursula cross over in the Friends universe as well.
Woody Harrelson is really a very good actor. To have the range to play sweet dim woody who u just want to Hug hes so cute & then to convincingly play a serial murderer in natural born killers was pretty impressive.
he degusted me when he at that pickle in 2012. Just gross and something I had seen few times before with chronic homeless. Made me cringe as he talked and chewed that pickle and slobbering as he talked. I really loved hating his acting on that scene. He pulled off that fringe intellectual type perfectly.
@@ladennayoung2939 She clearly looks like someone in their 20s here and 30s in friends. (look how tight the skin on her neck is, the only people who have necks like that are teenage and people who took care of themselves in their 20s, everybody looses that in their 30s)
NBC still was going strong with sitcoms on Must See TV until late 2000s since after Friends ended they had Will & Grace, The Office and My Name is Earl. But they couldn't sustain it forever.
Even if it was weak in the ratings, their Thursday night circa '10 was one of the most solid 2hr comedy blocks ever - 30 Rock, The Office before Carell left, Community before they fired Harmon, and Parks and Rec
Apparently Cheers and Friends existed in the same universe, as Chandler (or so they implied), Niles and Daphne all appeared in Caroline In The City: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nKTH-Kb3EC0.htmlsi=U6vyjXxKk-VfYbmN ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O14XJUrt9EI.htmlsi=bgq23QZsh6w5SsKS
And in "The Good Place", Michael references the "Friends" two-part episode that referenced "Cheers". So, three layers of Ted Danson in this TV multiverse. S xo :)
Another one of Lisa Kudrow's early TV roles was as one of Larry, Darryl, and Darryl's wives (Sada) on the last episode of "Newhart." It aired about a year after this show. Her hair was black in that episode, too.
I find it weird that despite Lisa Kudrow being a brunette in real life, her black hair looks fake. Then she died her hair blonde for Friends, and it looks so natural.
Because she's naturally "mousy brown", which is the kind of brown that used to be blonde as a child, so she's closer to blonde, if you see what I mean, she's Nordic
Pre-*Friends*: I remember Perry on *Growing Pains*; Schwimmer on *The Wonder Years*; LeBlanc on *Married With Children*; Cox on *Family Ties*; and here's Kudrow on *Cheers*. Without looking it up, I can't recall seeing Aniston on any shows before *Friends*.
Wow!! I was too young to know Cheers so for me it's amazing to See Lisa Kudrow as well as Woody Harrelson acting. I think they both showed incredible growth after these parts. I mean seeing Woody act in Highway Men with Kevin Costner it's just amazing...
@@lauracastle8778 I never seen her with her natural hair color. I was only 11 when this first aired. If I watched it back then. I didn't know who she was then, and don't recall seeing her with this hair color. Have a nice day.
It is neat to see actors and actresses when they get their start before they were famous. Reminds me of seeing Samuel L Jackson in Coming to America as the guy who tried to rob McDonell's.
Looks very well with her dark locks, they were so young... Its a bit sad that the years go by so quickly. Regards from Ireland and Keep Safe Everyone 🍀🇮🇪
I love this series and I bought the DVD box set a few years ago. I have watched all the episodes twice to 'cheer' myself up. The entire series is now available on Bluray in the US. I hope the Bluray box set will be released in Australia Region B.
Even though Lilith and Frazier characters went on the spin a very successful series, the relationship parts played by Emily and Woody we're so good and absolutely hilarious. The writing staff on cheers hit it out of the park with these two. Bravo
+Ethan Paquet Yeah, I read that. Its a good thing that part went to Peri Gilpin; her voice was much better suited to Kelsey Grammar's. It would have seemed weird hearing Lisa's squeaky voice after Kelsey's deep gravely one. Plus Lisa was much better suited for Phoebe on Friends. :D
She just wasn't the best fit and they realized it in rehearsals. They needed a woman who could go toe-to-toe with Frasier and not back down... and Lisa just wasn't able to give them enough of that. Also, listen to her... it would hard as an audience member to take someone who sounds like that seriously, when compared to their final choice for Roz.
Am I the only one who thinks it is sweet that Kelly walked in and saw her boyfriend kissing another woman, and never doubted him. Knowing he would never cheat on her. That is something you don't see a lot on tv. If that was any other show, that would have included a big fight/confrontation that most likely would have ended with them breaking up. Just saying I would like to see that kind of trust a bit more often.
From a Cheers episode where Woody repeatedly beats Frasier at chess: Frasier: "My god Woody, you must be an idiot savant!"Woody: "Yeah but I cover it by smiling a lot."
Lisa Kudrow mentioned in one of her interviews that she wears her hair blonde as a disguise. Blondes are perceived as dumb, so people tell them sensitive information that they just won't tell non-blondes.
Not to mention how brilliant Lisa actually is. She comes from some of the top medical professionals in the migraine field and was following in their footsteps before realizing her love of comedic acting
@@johnsmith-wx5fb Junior17 is sorta taking what she said out of context. She said that after dying her hair blond she noticed ppl would underestimate her intellectual abilities and instead of getting upset about being treated differently she thought she'd use it to her advantage. I got the impression that it was a lemons into lemonade type thing not that she was trying to be manipulative.
That woman is a natural! Lisa is hands on the best of the "Friends" cast. Thank you for this. I've watched the whole of Cheers as a kid, and I don't remember this.
Was watching Friends...and remembered Lisa being on an episode of Cheers... Go to RU-vid...and sure enough..there's a clip of Lisa Kudro on Cheers! Thanks for posting this. :))
Wow...Lisa with a magnificent dark mane!! Took hearing her voice to recognize her, but she looked fantastic. And Jackie Swanson who played Kelly was truly masterful in that role!
She hadn't quite come into her own yet here, but that hint of a Chicago accent is adorable. It reminds me of a young Anna Chlumsky in the My Girl films. Both were very good films, and she was excellent.
Also, have you seen Matt Leblanc on Married with children ? 🤔 He played one of Kelly Bundy's maaaaany boyfriends ? Then Christina Applegate played one of Jennifer Aniston's sister on Friends 😳
Leblanc was great on Married with Children. The spin-off from it sucked though. "Actually I was thinking if we had trolls under our building. I mean, sometimes I hear noises. My dad says it's the pipes but now I wonder..."
