A New York jury on Thursday found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, the first time a former U.S. president has been convicted of a crime. The jury reached its verdict in the historic case after over nine hours of deliberations, which began Wednesday. The Morning Joe panel discusses.

Garland, I'm sure at Biden's insistence, has done everything he can to protect Trump and all of his prominent criminal political allies. I'll bet he and/or Biden have even interfered in the Georgia and New York cases to try to slow them down or end them, completely. Sure, they have no authority in state cases, but they do have influence. The only person (judge or prosecutor) who has been committed to justice has been Judge Merchan. I haven't decided about Smith, yet, since he is working under two judges who are already doing all the delaying they can.

Technically these were white collar crimes that involved a low six figure payment, so normally some person who did this and had no prior criminal history would probably get probation and community service. However, Trump not only made threats against the judge, the prosecutors, and some of the witnesses, but also led an insurrection against the country, so they should demand actual incarceration at sentencing.

Ask Michael Cohen , if trump should serve a prison sentence, of course he should . If the judge doesn’t incarcerate him it means there are two laws one for rich and one for the poor. Michael served 2 years roughly for fraudulent actions, he had no criminal record and he pleaded guilty , so didn’t put the state through a trial . In my opinion he should serve jail time.

We are a 3rd world country. If I were a CEO of a large corporation in NY, I'd be looking to relocate ASAP. You never know when you're going to end up in their crosshairs. BS. Trump is a genius, he could have taken the stand to refute any claims against him. With his incredible intellect, he could have run circles around any attorney. He could have eloquently convinced the jury of his innocence. But he didn't. He refused to testify under oath. Why? Because he's a coward. Plus, guilty people never want to testify under oath. He's a guilty coward. Besides, as a billionaire and the former president of the US, he could have had the best lawyers in the world, the best lawyers money could buy, and he could have easily won this case if he was innocent. But the best lawyers refused this case because Trump is a terrible defendant, he's guilty as sin, and he's known for stiffing the people he hires. Besides, the lawyers he did have didn't have much to work with because the evidence was pretty clear: Trump was guilty.

Cevallos is wrong. The falsification of records in this case is about falsely claiming expenses aa business related, thus, at the time to pay taxes, those monies do not count. Therefore the state is deprived of the collection of the appropriate tax. There is a money loss. The amount can be determined prior to sentencing. The protocol he described for sentencing: interviewing the convict and preparing a Pre-Sentence Report is what the Feds use. I do not know whether New York has the same procedure. Second, in Thump's case This is first conviction, NOT his first offense. As for the sentence, he should be given 2 years on each count, running concurrently and broken down as follows: Nominal Sentence: 2 years Custodial time: 4 months Probation or supervised release time 20 months during which the offender shall provide for 200 hours of Community Service, or 10 hours per month. Should the defendant fail to provide those hours, he shall be returned to custodial arrangements, meaning back in jail. A fine: equal to the amount claimed as business expenses.

Monetary Loss is not zero. The tax evasion cost should be over $100k. Penalty for election violations should also be considered. Further, consider sentences given to other defendants for similar crimes.

For the party of freedom, it seems only their definition of "freedom" matters. Politicians who threaten women's reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ equality, and contraceptive rights have no place in America. They would be better off moving to communist Russia or an authoritarian dictatorship like North Korea, as those countries align much more with their radical views. If republicans didn’t have a track record of these things; I would vote for them, but until they stop there religious based hate and keep church and state separate I will continue to vote against them no matter what.

The verdict was reached by a jury who was told by the judge to ignore any evidence that the judge himself was biased. They were told this by a judge whose daughter is making millions off of this case. They were steered into a verdict by a judge who sustained every single objection that the prosecution made in closing arguments, and overruled every single objection that the defense made.

Trump's own legal team helped pick the jury. The judge bent over backwards to ignore Trump's lies and attacks he spewed outside court and on social media, and Trump's constant violations of his gag order. Any other person would have been thrown in jail for that. Trump also had every right to testify in his defense to refute any claims against him. If he had anything to say, he could have done so in court under oath. He refused. Not surprising though, because guilty people never want to get on the stand.

When the first 7 counts returned as guilty, that should have been a tell. Those counts were for the checks that Dump didn't sign, so I knew that the rest of the counts would be returned as guilty.
