The way Alex puts a hand in the table and tests his head on the other, still talking to Joel and Ottoman while shit goes down around them. Jesus this was an experience
It's such a badass, cool little moment between Alex and Joel. It shows just how weary they are of the world now, and how strong their friendship still remains, despite all the violence and pain in life they have to ignore.
After you watch this enough times you start to feel like this has to have happened somewhere at some point in time. The dev went above and beyond in this scene in regards to both the writing and the ambience
A lot of the characters in LISA: The Pointless are based off of real people Ed knew. For example, Gold Diamond/John Johnson is based loosely off Clovis (also another dev).

D in Pointless' wiki "Imp D. is based off of a neighbor Ed had in his flat block as a child. This neighbor had an awful smelling apartment, and would often go out to fill plastic bottles with puddle water. Not knowing his name, Ed and the neighboring kids simply referred to the man as "Imp.""
Despite the lack of context I feel that it adds to these characters and their downward spiral into nobodies. They play these "games" of groups of people pretending to fight each other and the moment an actual violent force comes along their influence basically evaporates. They don't have any guards, letting two random old dudes just tag along because two of them are already gone, and another pair already defected before figuring out how to combat the franchise. We meet them in the middle of all this because in a way they're like the salvation rangers, comical LARPers who disregard anything better to do because of this obsession over a made up game. They're no better than the trash people in the first act, and just like them they're bound to die off, forgotten.
I like how desensitized and unfazed they are, really adds to the theme of hopelessness and pointlessness. It kinda feels like they’re talking past each other too. Really makes you feel like it’s over, pointless.
I think the funniest thing about this scene is that Fringe boy is actually really strong, like on par with Arnold. But he looks like and acts like a joke character.
I would put the entire "Game" around with arnold when it comes to power. They're all gang leaders or high enforcers (in the case of Lenny) but they're all concerned they're losing members out of the franchise I really wanna see a fangame that explores pre-franchise Downtown

@@headofsecurity1478 From what I remember hearing and reading about "the game" the entire thing was mostly just a massive post apocalyptic LARP where nobody actually got severely hurt most of the time until the Franchise moved in. Although I wouldn't doubt some of the gang's members actually being powerful.
Each character has so much personality and they all look so unique, despite the fact that they are only really around for this one scene, I really appreciate that
Not gonna lie, I totally wanted Ottoman to join the crew, he genuinely seems like a good guy. Hope to see more of this, and some of these characters (Long leg and, Pike) become recurring characters.
First few times I saw this the dialogue felt purposely meaningless, then after a few more watches the dialogue makes more and more sense. Beyond surprised at how ‘deep’ the dev got in this scene considering the context, I shouldn’t be though, after all it’s a LISA game.
This is one of the best scenes in video games imo, and I don't think the dev even realized it when he made it. To me, its a perfect blend of all aspects, timing, context, narrative, sound design, writing, cinematography. It's all fire.
That shift at 6:17 is surprisingly unnerving. Like, the dialogue is funny, but there's this dream-like quality that disturbs me. All this horrific carnage has occurred and Alex barely reacts before having a casual conversation with Joel and Office. It feels like some horrible nightmare where inexplicable, disturbing things keep happening and no one comments on how wrong it all is.
Considering this is the world of LISA, I think the whole concept of violence and gore has been a desensitising factor. Nowadays in the world of Olathe, you'd probably see somebody blow his brains out with dynamite and you wouldn't flinch much.
idk if its just an over sight, but once the lights go back on at the top of the house where the wall meets the ceiling gets lighter as if its dustier. it to me implies that time has went on and aged the place up a bit.
In wake of SOTWS, it seems like Geen shares that sentiment. I just laughed my ass off at how he's just like 'okay, y'know what? _I'm good._ I'm gonna go out for a smoke. Come get me when you two are done with all... *this.'* while Alex and Joel are still completely nonchalant towards it XD
Too people that dont know what happened in this scene, here a little explanation; this guys aree the central powers, the leaders of The Game, a big friendly gang war that works likes a literal game where people fight in a non-letal way for fun. Thing is that the infinity franchise is making people start killing each other, and therefore damaging The Game. The central powers them are in this dinner to talk about what they can do to stop the Franchise actions. The central powers are; Long Leg Lenny, Tic-Tonic, John Johnson, Fringe Boy, Shef, Zein Ka, Office Ottoman. They also talked in the dinner about how 2 ex members leaved the game; they are Jessie mack, that joined the franchise, and Silvester de Maistre, that have already leaved more them one time. In the dinner we can see that both Shef and Fringe Boy where also with the franchise and killed almost all the members, with the exeption of LLL that leaved the meeting so he could leave the dying game and go back to his own affiliation, The phone crew. Lester is also a semi-member of the game, because he is the principal food maker of downtown and this makes him a very important person, he is still alive after the meeting. with the death of the central powers, all the gangs that they ruled now are; or dead, or leaving downtown, or joining the franchise.

If I were to see a scene redone in MU, I would definetly want it to be this. Just the thought of Fringe boy looking more like muscle man and a dripped out John J just makes me smile.
You know It’s funny how this warlords are different to the ones in joyful. In the main game the warlords are figures larger than life, lords of the beat down ( big Lincoln, Cindy gallows’s ) meanwhile in this game the warlords are just old people who are wearing fancy clothes or just joined the franchise
@@m.p.4205 I think that joyful warlords once were as powerful as joyful warlords, its just that the franchise if destabilizing them to the point where they are barely gang leaders at that point Remember, the warlords we see in the game had their forces get consumed by the franchise
Also, keep in mind the Joyful comes from the perspective of Buddy. One of the hall marks of Lisa is the unreliable narrator. To Buddy the warlords could be larger than life figures, but to Alex they are just old men like him.
You know, I expected this fan game to suck and stray away too much from the source material's themes of child abuse, rape, isolation, mental illness, and drug abuse but I love the Eraserhead vibes I get from this scene and the part where Alex talks about his aunts warmed me up to the game focusing on humanity's dwindling numbers so I'm intrigued by this and I will be giving this game a try. Plus, any music from Lisa the First is always welcome (I just hope "Fuck It" makes an appearance).

Honestly there is a genuine mystery to Lenny. Did he know? If he did why not tell the others? Did he orchestrate the death by introducing the two into the franchise? If he did what does he gain? If he did have a call who was on the other line? Does he remember Alex? Why was he the sole survivor?
Two of the people there ended up being from the infinity franchise, a group that viciously kills people as a means of achieving power/enlightenment. The protagonists have seen so much violence and depravity from this gang, and from Olathe in general, that they're desensitized. Basically, they found the sight of people actually sitting down and enjoying a meal at a table more surprising than them brutalizing each other.
I feel like Ed being a non-native English speaker adds to the Lynchian atmosphere of this scene specifically. He knows English well but the overly-formal phrases and quaint word choices really conveys the absurdity of what are essentially a group of old men LARPing as warlords in a years (decades?) long play gang-war suddenly having to reconcile with mortality and the final death of hope in a doomed world. All-the-while speaking in exaggerated slang and staying in character as the influence of a supernatural death cult causes them to murder each other.
@@NotACutie It makes it feel like it's set up so Alex and Joel can sit there instead of the other, absent warlords. If there were more seats, say, one unoccupied, then it would feel less contrived.

So apparently during the ending scene, that's fringe boy on the table besting John Johnson with a stool (says so on the wiki) but I can't tell how thats fringe boy and I don't see a stool in his hands
Can anyone put a name to the first song that plays? It's not a part of The Pointless' soundtrack so I'm guessing it belonged to one of the earlier Lisa projects... and goddamn if the catalogue of songs for those isn't gigantic.

Is the guy punching Tic Tonic supposed to be Fresh? Because he doesn't look like it at all. Also, is he really punching him? There is a punching sound, but the sprite is super weird. Like, why is he turning around all the time?
Luke van Kleef ok so tic tonic is just sitting, possibly choking. Fringe boy is beating gold diamond with a chair. Chef is eating Zein Ka, who got chopped up like ham. Officer Mack gets stabbed right before chef kills himself by choking with an infinity jersey.
