✨OUR 1ST TIME IN LISBON - THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN 2 DAYS - WHAT WE GOT UP TO ! ✨
Lisbon May 3-6th
We stayed in Alfama which is the old town of Lisbon, in a converted train station hotel - The Editory Riverside Hotel booked through Easyjet
Great position and easy to catch the metro, buses, trains or trams from there too. Alfama is absolutely beautiful but very hilly!
Our first full day…
We bought a 24hr travel card for around €7 which meant we could go on any form of transport around the city. We wanted to go and have brunch at a restaurant called Manifest (open 8am to 4pm) so took the metro up to Marquis De Pombal which took around 15 minutes and was surprisingly very quiet! It was great! From there, it was 7min walk to Manifest.
Manifest was super busy and we waited outside in queues for around 30 minutes but it was well worth it! We both chose the continental brunch for €15 each - the plate of food was huge! It was so good though.
The Baxia - Chiado, Alfama and Bairro Alto areas are the areas where you’ll find lots of touristy things to see and do. All 3 have amazing rooftop bars, Miradouro’s (viewpoints) quirky bars and restaurants as well as the funiculars and historic buildings. Lisbon isn’t as big as I thought and can easily be walked around although… the streets have shiny cobblestones so you’ll need good shoes!
We spotted the Santa Justa lift which is a 19th-century industrial-era lift that transports passengers up the 45m from the Baixa district up to the Largo do Carmo. It costs €5 to go up and the queues were huge! But.... i knew a way on how to get up there for free!!
In Google maps add Carmo Convent (3 min walk away) - walk around the convent to your right, go up the stairs past the codfish place and you’ll be where the elevator goes up to!
The views were great from here and we could see the castle of São Jorge in the distance which was on our list of things to visit.
A few Aperols later we were asked by a tuk tuk driver if we wanted to go on a 1.5hr tour with him.
We chose the Alfama old town tour and it was €40 each.
Our guide and driver was bonkers and we later found out he likes to drink on his tours! We stopped off twice to have drinks (he bought them)! He only arrived in Lisbon 2 months ago and although showed us some sites, he wasn’t able to tell us anything about them! We came away with no extra knowledge of Lisbon, a bit drunk, bewildered and €40 down!
Later that evening, we had booked tickets online to go to Carmo Convent to watch a light show at 9.30pm. We took the metro up to Baxia and found a restaurant (Mar Ao Carmo) across the road from the convent and ate there.
It cost €21.20 each, is running until July, is narrated in both Portuguese and English and has two time slots of 9.30pm and 10.30pm lasting 45 minutes.
It was stunningly beautiful but I wish we had more history - it was mainly interpretive dance.
Our 2nd and last full day…
We had breakfast at our hotel which was €20 each...a real disappointment! The food choices were ok but everything was cold! We just felt it was a bit of a let down.
We had a few places we wanted to see saved on Google maps and one attraction was just a few minutes walk away from our hotel. It’s called ‘Floating Me’ and it’s basically a hand rail in the middle of a steep hill! But when you sit on it, it looks like you are floating… we had lots of laughs on this!
Next up… Sao Jorge Castle which was around a 15 min uphill walk. It is such a pretty area here (Alfama) the tiled buildings with washing hanging from window to window, cobbled windy streets… I loved it here.
Next - Hop On Hop Off bus tour...
We chose to do the Belem route. It costs €22 each and takes around an hour each way.
Belem was an area that we really wanted to visit - there’s Jerónimos Monastery, Tower of Belém and Monument to the Discoveries plus…. We had to visit the Pastéis de Belém bakery.
We went on the search to try some Pastéis de Belém. The queue was huge and ran all down one side of a street! We both bought 2 each and they came with sachets of cinnamon and sugar to add onto - unfortunately i didn't like them.
It was raining so we hopped back on the bus to take us back into the city.
We wandered around for a few hours, had a few drinks and took a funicular up to a beautiful Miradouro viewpoint called Sao Pedro De Alcantara.
Lisbon is a beautiful city and I will return one day…

I love the look of Lisbon, thank you! I love your travel videos, they're so helpful and always make me smile! I think that's twice Liz has been in the loo haha - that's me every opportunity! Have you been to Dubrovnik? That's on my list! I also want to go to Seville. I LOVE Spain and Seville looks amazing. If you haven't been to Rome or Berlin, I definitely recommend! Another Spanish one which is beautiful is Ronda. I stayed in Gaucin, beautiful..and drove to Ronda. You'd need a car. Have you done your solo trip yet? I told Suzie how inspiring your videos are. She's got too many horses to go away on holiday though..I'll work on her! ☺

Hi there awesome thank you ☺️ No but I really want to!! I went to Ibiza for the weekend a few weeks ago and we’re close to going to Dubrovnik but the cost for Ibiza was too good… £280 each for flights and 4^ hotel either breakfast for 3nts! But it was in Playa D’en Bossa… we were literally the oldest ones there 😂 but it was great though. But yeah, I really want to go to Dubrovnik. Yes and Seville too! Actually… and Rome and Berlin - so many places I want to visit! I went to Nerja and Frigiliana in the Andalusia region of Spain last year and absolutely loved it! We did look at going to Ronda but we just didn’t have time as it was a bit too far away but we also wanted you to go to Granada too so we’ll definitely be back one day, it’s such a pretty region. Yes, I came back from my solo trip to Rhodes last week - it was a taster to see if I could cope on my own as I have a 9nt trip booked in October going solo and I loved it! Didn’t feel lonely once - I can’t wait for October now! That’s me done for the year then although my youngest son wants to go to Venice for the weekend in December so if I can find a bargain I might be tempted. Aw haha horses come first ☺️ x

Ooh I’m not sure what I wore in Lisbon now besides what’s on the thumbnail 😂 if you mean my kimonos (I wear them all the time) I get them mainly from Free People on sale - super pricey website that unfortunately I’m obsessed with but they have some good sales. I have bought some from Shien in the past too. The white tie up top in the thumbnail, I bought from New Look last year. Sorry if that’s not what you meant 😂 x
