I was happy to find a live video of "Clang", which is currently my favorite Band-Maid song. This is from 2018's "World Domination" album.
NOTE: "World Domination" is the first album on which Band-Maid was credited with ALL songs (with help on three tracks: "Fate", "Rock In Me", and "Turn Me On").
Please consider supporting Band-Maid via the following links:
Band-Maid official website: bandmaid.tokyo/
Band-Maid on Spotify: open.spotify.c...
Chan's ranked Band-Maid playlist: open.spotify.c...
Band-Maid on RU-vid: / @bandmaid @BANDMAID
Band-Maid 'World Domination' playlist: • WORLD DOMINATION
Clang (audio only) : • CLANG
Clang (audio only) : • CLANG
(I don't know why there are two Clang versions on YT)
Since this is a review/reaction, I hope "fair use" doctrine applies here.

Miku swinging her head back and forth we call Miku's helicopter. That's when you know she is really getting into the song. It's so much damned fun seeing her doing that and other moves on the stage. Her one move that always perplexes me is her jumping high with both feet in the air and then sticking the landing in those high heels. Band-Maid's on-stage energy is ALWAYS contagious. There is another video of the band doing "Clang" in Hamburg shot by Vladimir Chupin which has a "tapping duel" between MISA and Kanami at the beginning of the song.

Someone else pointed me to the Vladimir video; very nice! As for Miku jumping, every time I see it, just for a split second I wonder if THIS will be the time she actually takes flight. :-)

If anyone was wondering, I did make a list for myself (before I started doing these reactions) of "things other reactors do that bother me". :-) One of the things was the reactor's face being larger than the video they were watching. Sure, I want to see their reaction, but I'd also like to see what they're reacting to. :-)

If you have had bad news or just a bad day. Watching Miku and her rock star posses is always a delight. Endlessly talented but also to show in all her performances just how much she loves playing and performing is worth all the effort she has had to make to get to that point.

@@Chan_Fry IIRC, just before the 2019 Europe tour, MISA visited her old school, Tokyo School of Music, to learn how to do tapping better. And I think, the outcome was superb 😊

Misa doesn't express her feelings but we feel all the intensity she gives in her bass playing and in the way she moves. However, you will hardly see it on his face. Sometimes she can still smile at you or give you an intense look mischievously. I saw this on fancams. I love Saiki when she lets out her wild cry to tease the crowd. It's very rock. Thanks Chan Fry.

I'm a sucker for "odd" moments in Maids videos, like MISA giving someone the stink-eye in this video or Saiki's wink at the camera at 5:54 (or Saiki flipping the bird in the live "Real Existence" vid), not to mention the occasional English curse words that pop up. So fun! Thank you for a good analysis, Chan.
@Chan_Fry
@Chan_Fry Месяц назад
Thank you. :-) I almost paused again for Saiki's wink, but decided to keep going... Something I've considered for future videos (for moments like that), instead of pausing and talking about it -- is pulling out a freeze frame to highlight the moment while the song continues playing... More work in editing, but fewer interruptions. Just an idea. :-)

"They know they're involved in something special." - I think this is part of what makes me love this band - all of them recognize in the moment that this is BIG, likely the biggest thing they'll ever be involved in, and certainly bigger than what most people get to do.
@Chan_Fry
@Chan_Fry Месяц назад
Very true, Anderson. It does look like -- Miku especially -- is hyperaware that she's living the dream. I see it often from Akane and Kanami too, but less often from MISA and Saiki (more from Saiki in later live shows). MISA remains inscrutable on stage most of the time. :-)

In Mincho's tapping bit i hear Sai-chan's melody line of "Be just getting started / Hang in there"

I recently saw a live version with an extended intro (may have been a vlad-cam?) where Misa does the tapping along with Kanami on the bass! I'd been saying that this is like one of the few techniques Misa doesn't do... but I was wrong, and should not have doubted!
@Chan_Fry

Yes, someone pointed me to that video and it was very interesting. I think it's the first time I've seen such a technique on the bass guitar -- very impressive!

@@Chan_Fry There are a few bass players who do it today, including the bass player from the Japanese band Asterism. But back in the day the one guy who did it regularly and well was Billy Sheehan of the band Mr. Big, playing across from guitar great Paul Gilbert. They were also known for their guitar/bass duels, which I have only since seen from Band-Maid. 😄

!! Reminds me, I probably need to do a short on the pronunciation/origin of my name, LOL. (It's not the ちゃん that Japanese uses, but short for Chandelle and pronounced like the first syllable of the American "chandelier" -- rhymes with "can" or "fan", not "dawn" or "gone".)
@TomClark-Futoura
@TomClark-Futoura Месяц назад
@@Chan_Fry Hope you didn't feel any disrespect from my attempt to pun your name. So your name is pronounced more like Shan? In any case, Chandelle is an awesome name -- Chan and the Chandelles sounds like a great 60's revival pop group. Remember Tommy James and the Shondells, an American rock band formed in Niles, Michigan, in 1964? They had two No. 1 singles in the U.S. - "Hanky Panky" (July 1966, their only RIAA Certified Gold record) and "Crimson and Clover" (February 1969) - and also charted twelve other top 40 hits, including five in the Hot 100's top ten: "I Think We're Alone Now", "Mirage", "Mony Mony", "Sweet Cherry Wine" and "Crystal Blue Persuasion."

Tangential question: are you still getting crazy recommendations on your home page? Honestly, if there's a downside to listening to Band-Maid, it's how messed up my YT homepage has become. All my recommendations are insanely obscure Japanese bands (with a few other Asian countries thrown into the mix for good measure), and I don't want to click "not interested" because one of them might be good, right? And of course, YT won't stop recommending BabyMetal, no matter how many times I click "don't recommend channel". :-/
@Chan_Fry
@Chan_Fry Месяц назад
@@AndersonConnors Yes, it's insane how bad the algorithm is at guessing why I like this band, LOL. It's not the algorithm's fault - some highly paid human programmed it that way. I think all it has to go on is tags and possibly words in titles. So someone (won't say their names here) tags all their Band-Maid videos with "Babymetal", and their channels are so huge that the algorithm thinks the two bands are related somehow. And of course a LOT of reactors tag their Band-Maid videos with "Asian women", so you can guess what kind of videos show up for that. Weirdest flex: I've been recommended a ton of geology videos (because of "rock", I guess), and some of them are actually pretty interesting. But yeah, the algorithm doesn't know the difference between bands that sing and bands that growl/scream, doesn't know the difference between bands that play their own instruments and groups of dancing girls, etc.
