ATC and flight crew communication is supposed to be professional and calm. This was people doing their jobs right.

ATC and pilots are trained professionals and mature adults that usually don't get hysterical or emotional when crap hits the fan. Unlike the many videos showing cops getting hysterical when they feel in danger or their feelings get hurt.

You don't mention that the passengers and crew were kept on the plane for almost 30 minutes.

When I last departed from Heathrow, the security channel I passed through was in the charge of a team who were all members of a certain demographic. Passengers whose baggage was rejected by the system and needed further checking had their bags inspected by a woman in a head scarf. In other words, the woman in the head scarf was the only control to prevent a dangerous object being carried onto an aircraft.

They are dealing with a credible bomb threat on a plane with 197 people on board loaded with 50 tons of fuel! It took them more than 40 minutes to get the emergency fire services to the aircraft and an hour to get steps to the aircraft. This is utter and absolute incompetence by the Tower and airport authorities. The controller has no awareness or even common sense of the potential deadliness of the situation. She and her supervisor should be immediately reassigned to non-critical duties pending an investigation and full review of emergency services and procedures at the airport. The crew of the aircraft should have been vociferous with the Tower and notwithstanding possible injuries from a slide evacuation, evacuated via the slides within 10 minutes rather than continue putting lives at risk.

I've done this flight a few times and the security there, because there are few flights, is excellent. it is also not really an angry country so things like this are illogical because they are friendly and I am surprised.

Because they intercept threats all the time, that’s why they’re cool. I’ve gotten many where I used to work, and you don’t freak out at all after a while, just feel pissed that your day is getting interrupted. Who’s willing to take a chance though?

Pilots have been getting trained to deal with this type of situation since the 1970s, when so many planes were being hi-jacked. The last thing anyone needs is a panicky pilot. Be thankful they weren't in the air when the message came through.

Bomb threats are a regular, although thankfully relatively infrequent occurrence in the airline business. There is a detailed process to enable the evaluation of the threat. Most threats become known after take off so the need to evaluate the likely veracity and consequent action is important. Clearly in this case, with the aircraft still on the ground, the action of deplaning and searching the aircraft would be less inconvenient and costly than having to divert an aircraft already airborne, one of the options depending on the threat evaluation.

Of course he was professional. That’s conditioned into pilots. He was probably more worried about keeping the passengers and crew calm, for an orderly evacuation of his aircraft. That is where panic can cause serious injury. I take it there was no bomb, but all threats have to be acted upon. You never know if it might be the real thing.

What do these silly people expect the air staff to be doing? Should the pilot be screaming hysterically and hostesses running up and down the isles in tears. What fools these people are!!

Trace and arrest the email charge them the max no matter where or who

Years ago a friend of mine was chief of police at Heathrow airport. It was a time when bomb scares were all too familiar however, one particular airline seemed to have an inordinate more scares than the others. After some detective work they found it was a pilot of said airline calling in the bomb threats because he wanted to stay over with his mistress in London.

He's on the ground with the 'threat' of a bomb, I hope he's calm or everyone on his plane is screwed when an actual engine goes out at 36000ft. He faces the risk of very stressful things for real everyday.

This happened to me the very first time I flew on an aeroplane late 70's. It was announced in French and there was a gasp. Wondered what's happening. Then in English. Had to disembark off the runway and every passenger had to point out their luggage on the tarmac. Baggage handlers were brave. No body wanted to re- board so they provided another aircraft..

This is missing some info it took them an hour to start the evacuation because they couldn't get steps and emergency equipment to the aircraft for a long time the pilot keeps he's calm up to the very end tho he did call out how stupid the hour wait is and they will use the emergency slide if they couldn't get steps soon top response from the pilot wouldn't expect any less form a British airways
