@@theow771 Super Nintendo (32-bit) the red cartridge was the first Doom I ever played. Now I'm playing it on my smartphone with a flat OLED screen lol
That is actually the premise. During the events of Doom (1993) DoomGuy finds himself in hell and in the second episode has to fight his way out. He escapes but not after slaughtering countless demons, they were already on edge and scared when he fought through the facilities on Deimos but that fear escalated. So by the time Doom 2 happens and DoomGuy (later to become the Slayer) shows up they're attacking because they're scared because they know they're about to die. All because the demons killed his pet rabbit, Daisy.
The games are a slow montage of the demons eventually discovering and understanding the truth of Doomguy and what he represents. In Doom the demons thought they won until you show up. Then they thought they killed you, but the Doomguy just keeps killing demons. Over the years he just keeps getting angrier!
@@jokerofspades-xt3bs It only does depending on which side of it. There's a good portion of it that are just edgy 14 year olds, the other corner complaining that Eternal sucks, another corner saying the same about 2016, and the people who reviewbomb and try to attack Idsoftware over what happened to Mick Gordan, despite his entire open letter stating explicitly NOT to do that.
ill never forget the level Breakdown, creepy music, and has established a bit of a fan theory that this level is the breaking point of doom guys mind, the music really pushes that
@@adamsmasher9769 it was ment to not be like the other doom as it was ment to be a doomish survival shooter game ment to capture the horror of the bases survival and desperation not a superhuman blaster that we had constantly gotten . it is a good game when you play it as such, dont play it as a running shooter but turn the difficulty up max and play it as a horror survival and tacticaly
@rickychico8274 i tried to play it a bunch of times. I bought it probably 5 times on disc over several years but i always ended up returning it cause i couldnt get into it. A big oart of the problem i had was rhe mazey hallways
the soundtrack alone makes replaying the game worth it, even if you're shit you'll never feel as much of a badass in your life compared to ripping demons apart with that soundtrack 😩
It is nice I guess, too bad that there simply wasn't any way to play PCM samples, but I guess there wasn't a whole lot of cpu cycles to spare. Amiga 500's paula chip was really cool 4PCM audio channels.
Doom 64 and the rework of Ultimate DooM, DooM II as well as Final DooM for PSX (and one of my favorite versions) were composed by Aubrey Hodges and concentrated on a VERY atmospheric horror theme, and made me feel so unnerved when playing, even to this day.
No horror game has ever been able to give me the true sense of ambient fear quite like the soundtrack for the PS1 port of DOOM. I still get creeped out by that soundtrack.
Anyone else notice doom 3 and 2016 both have the same riff tone. Low than high for a brief moment? (Listen to the sudden change in sound at the end of the clips)
Demon A: 'Hey... Do you hear that?' Demon B: 'No. No I don't- Wait. Oh no... Oh dear god, NO! I DO!' Demon A: 'So I'm not hearing things... What do we do?' Demon B: 'Run! We can't stop what's coming from where that music is coming from!' Doomguy: 'COME HERE!!!'
Doom 3 is my favourite Doom game Finished Marine on all three campaigns than played Veteran on all three, now I'm planning to play on Nightmare after I go through a couple other games But I can only think of Doom
Y'all are really sleeping on Doom64, it's one of the most atmospheric entries in the series. Don't get me wrong, still great action, wicked guns, and maze-like levels full of demons to kill, but just a wholly unique look and vibe that works better than you might think.
The Rotted Foul (Breakdown) was super creepy in Doom 64. Not only do you get the creepy ambient music, you have what sounds like tormented souls whispering sweet nothings in your ears randomly!
Tweaker is literally a budget tool song and I love it for that. If you haven't listened to it full yet I highly recommend it even has half whispered background vocals in the bridge
