Since you asked about the key here's a long comment (a whole essay lol) about the explanation of it. Read it if you're interested! As you already know Ian is making a storyline based on his life dealing with bipolar disorder type I and DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). There are three main "characters" in this storyline: Mito, Mr Insanity and The Hybrid. His first two albums focused on Mito while this most recent one 'Dear Insanity' focused on Mr Insanity (mostly songs made by Mr Insanity) and that's why they're so distinct. I’ll only talk about Mito and Mr Insanity here since they are the ones present in the videos you've watched. These aren't just characters, they are real people that have a mind of their own called "alters" (short for alternate state of consciousness) and that he coexists with. In DID there's more than one person living in the same body with different memories, voice tone, body language, beliefs, motives, etc. DID stems from severe and/or repeated early childhood trauma (typically before 5 to 10 years old) and the child fragments the mind so the "new person" can deal with the trauma and not the child otherwise it would be unbearable. That person was Mito. That way the child's mind can't fully integrate into one whole identity and instead it becomes multiple. Just like fragments of a mirror, they all work seperately but together they form the whole mirror (a 'system' how someone with DID can be called). The physical version of his first EP had a broken mirror inside the case. Someone with DID only knows this mechanism to cope with trauma: to disassociate and become someone else. So they unconsciously switch between identities as they are exposed to stress and also more identities can be formed throughout their lives. Mito (the acronym for Moodswings In This Order) is the "protector alter" since he was created by the mind to deal with any trauma and to be the one who remembers them so Ian can forget it. Mito is represented in MVs by wearing black, with a deep voice, missing an eye because of white contact lenses and wearing a ring with an eyeball. The association of Mito with an eye is due to the fact that the ‘eye’ symbolism is important to him because him as a visual director recognizes that the best lenses of the world are the eyes. So when he switches into Mito and his world flips, it’s like he loses one eye. He also has trouble looking at himself properly in the mirror, he always closes one eye, which probably also inspired this notion.That's because he has a hard time processing who he is. Ian is the prominent identity, the one who stays the longest in the body (called the "host"). In very stressful situations Ian blacks out and Mito takes control of the mind in order to protect him (he's the one "fronting" ps. there's also cofronting meaning more than one alter in control at the same time.) Ian then will come back hours, days, weeks later (the longest that it has been was a month) not remembering anything that was said or done. Basically his life has been lived and he doesn't know how. Mr Insanity is his manic highs. He is represented in MVs by wearing colorful clothes, clowny make up and butterfly is his symbol. Since in mania someone with bipolar gets extremely high and reckless, Mr Insanity is usually chaotic and thinks he's unstoppable. Ian calls the place where the whole story unfold "The Other Side" which is actually his consciousness, where these alters exist. The protagonist of this album is Mr Insanity. This album is all about how Mr Insanity came to be and his journey into “The Other Side”. Mr Insanity is usually chaotic and doesn't care about consequences. In the story, there's a door that Mr Insanity's chaotic self is trying to open which represents the traumas. Mito, being the protector, won't let this happen since Ian isn't supposed to know anything about it. Growing up, Ian thought that everyone remembers all of their dreams until he started asking others. Lucid dreaming has always been normal for him. It is the same with sleep paralysis which he experiences about 6-7 days a week. During sleep paralysis he hears things, although he doesn't see them. However, this is not scary for him. It's just something he grew up with. In those lucid dreams there are a lot of doors. Going through the wrong door could turn the dream into a nightmare and that's what inspired the "door" analogy. Sometimes he dreams as Mito, sometimes as himself. When he dreams as Mito, it's almost like Ian is intruding on Mito's dream, like a spectator. The only way to get to “The Other Side” (his consciousness) is through lucid dreaming. Continues..
The MVs for this album era are all connected. He released the videos in reverse, except for Peanut Butter & Tears. Storyline wise it is: *Peanut Butter & Tears ==> Don't Go Insane ==> Don't Go Insane teaser ==> So I Danced* *'Peanut Butter & Tears'* In this song Ian starts lucid dreaming and wandering through these 'doors'. The first door that he enters he is met by a whole new world he never knew that existed: ‘The Other Side’. He tries to understand where he's at until he realizes he can't leave or he doesn't know how to get back. Essentially the longer he stays lucid dreaming, the longer he ventures into this world, he starts to lose the grip of reality, he goes manic and turns into Mr Insanity. This video is he beginning stages of The green asteroid seen on the video at the beginning was a huge part of his dreams when he was a kid. While wandering through these doors, somewhere down this mind, Ian/Mr Insanity goes through another door and comes across his youth or memories unlocking his youth, one of them being "Peanut Butter & Jelly". However when he comes across it this time it’s "Peanut Butter & Tears'. As he said It’s a ‘sad freak show’. This song is about childhood trauma (represented here by a visit to the dentist), how it shapes you and losing the joy in life as the years go by. But he also said that there's still joy in life even after you’ve grown up. You just need to know where to look for it. In the next chapters of the story there's a specific door that Mr Insanity's chaotic self is trying to open which represents the traumas. Mito being the protector won't let this happen since Ian isn't supposed to know anything about it. *'Don't Go Insane'* At the beginning of the video, Ian is sitting at the desk writing the letter from 'Famous Last Words' for his future self, Mr Insanity. While Ian is sitting, there's also a howl and he mentions 'wolves' at the lyrics ("Oh, bless my heart / When the wolves take me away"). 'Wolves' are a huge symbolism for him because of ge werewolf transformation aspect that ties on with his DID switches. At this point, after 'Peanut Butter & Tears', Mr Insanity was already born but he isn't his highest version yet. In ‘Don’t Go Insane’ we see Mr Insanity develop. We see his journey venturing into "The Other Side" as he slowly turns into madness going after the key that unlocks another door/trauma During this journey Mr Insanity is met by pink villagers which are essentially Mito's minions trying to stop him (notice how they only have one eye like Mito) and Mito is represented by the black smoke. Mr Insanity repeatedly says to himself "I'm sane" and even so still loses grip on reality. 'Don't Go Insane', as the title suggests, is about trying to not go insane while simultaneously still losing your mind. Ian said in the story the most advanced version of Mr Insanity, when he succumbs to madness, is completely blind because he no longer needs to see since the universe is within himself. He has fallen to 'The Other Side'. In my interpretation this is probably why at the end of the song right before the bridge he says "Can't see...". About The Green guy, It isn't known yet his role in all that, just that he is Mr Insanity's sidekick. *'So I Danced'* Mr Insanity together with The Green plans a heist to steal the key from the "Bank of the Other Side" which is located at the Emerald City. The name is inspired by the Wizard of Oz, a big reference for him since childhood and he actually visited his version of the 'Emerald City" in one of his dreams. But the guardian/mayor of the city is Mito himself and then the battle between Mito and Mr Insanity unfolds. It is unclear who won. Hopefully with this you could understand everything better! I recommend for you to watch 'Skins Demo', and 'Limbo'. I'll give you context on 'Skins' since with him context is everything: It contains Mito's thoughts about holding their traumas for so long. It's basically a letter from Mito to Ian. Ian came back after a 2-day black out and found the song written and produced, the video already done all by Mito. It is the first time that Ian allowed himself to show to the world Mito's true feelings and not just how Mito is through Ian's eyes: usually shown as a dark almost mythical/villainous figure that Ian repels and can't accept that he's a part of himself. This is probably because in DID protectors (Mito) can also punish the hosts (Ian). In real life Ian until now doesn't know what trauma is the root of his DID, only Mito does. Mito in order to protect Ian usually punishes him if he ever goes looking to know what is this trauma. 'Skins' in a way feels like the humanization of a "villain" by giving him a voice. Ian choosing to release a 100% Mito creation instead of burying it was an important step towards their relationship and acceptance as a whole system. About Limbo it's the first time where he introduced The Hybrid as a concept. If you react to it I'll comment the story of it. Thank you if you actually managed to read all of this! Forgot about 'Famous Last Words': This is the beginning of Mr Insanity's journey. The narration is Ian making a letter for his future self, Mr Insanity, who will eventually “lose his mind” and venture into "The Other Side". Dear Insanity If you are reading this We have ventured too far off into our minds (ventured into “The Other Side”, inside his consciousness) And everything that we thought was a dream Is now real Even the nightmares (Remember that the only way to get to The Other Side is through lucid dreaming. Then through his own lucid dreaming. Mr Insanity went to The Other Side and experienced this world first hand, even the nightmares. It became his reality.) My time is running out But yours has just begun But don't worry I'll find a way to come back I always do Yours truly (Ian is about to switch into Mr Insanity. But in DID the identities always alternate hence why they are called “alters”. Even if now this is Mr Insanity's time, eventually Ian will come back to take control of the mind.)

I recommend limbo mv and skinz (demo mv) they aren't apart of an album but worth it to check out, also dpr is a collective of people who work together, it's not a band but like a collection of people so like dpr artic is a new member and hes a producer that produces like edm type music(so far) do or die is so good you should check it out too
I'm so happy you're reacting to DPR Ian. I love him so much. He suffers from depression, and it comes out in his music which is brilliant IMHO. You need to listen to the entire "Peanut Butter And Tears" because that video skipped the 2nd verse. I love that song. The whole album is fantastic. I'm not going to recommend anything else, because other people have, but "Welcome To The Show" is another one of my favs. He's got so many bangers, you can't go wrong. Thank you for this reaction!

If you don’t know much about DPR Ian, everything about his lore is based on his real life experiences with DID and Bipolar. DID usually forms when a child experiences a trauma that they can’t deal with, so a persona is formed to absorb the trauma and negative experiences. But this prevents a formation of a fully formed identity and forms a ‘system’ where the ‘alter’ (alternate persona) protects the individual from the negative experiences, but the og individual doesn’t actually know what those traumas were because they weren’t the one in control of the body (a system is when different individual and separate alternate personas all work together to control a ‘system’ aka a body). So in actual real life, Ian doesn’t know what his trauma actually was, because one of his persona’s Mito is acting as his protector. Mito was his first, and Ian has incorporated him into his storylines. The lore is there is a person going crazy, Mito gets jealous of his other personas and vows to become the only persona, there is another persona called Mr.Insanity that is trying to open a locked door (the door that locks the memory of the trauma). That angers Mito who goes after Mr.Insanity to stop him. (The pink people) are in the mindscape (called the other side)of the person going crazy are Mito’s minions trying to stop Mr.Insanity of finding and unlocking the door of memories
Also Ian in real life sometimes blacks out and Mito takes over, and when he comes back, it could be days, weeks or even once a month, and has no recollection of anything that was said or done.he tends to update fans with emojis indicating who is in control atm, and sometimes deactivates when he feels a manic episode coming on (Mito taking over) so the other personalities don’t do anything in his social media.
u should definitely check out music by dpr live! he was the first person in dpr to start making music and his sound is mainly hiphop/pop rap/rnb based! all of his music is timeless but i would recommend listening to his debut album "Coming To You Live", the EP "Her", and another EP called "IITE COOL" which are all my personal favorites 😁
Do you know that Ian writes, produces, mixes and masters all of his songs? He also plays the instruments, directs and edits all of his MVs. His songs are all a part of an ongoing storyline that begins w/his 1st MV 'So beautiful'. It's based on his mental disorders including DID and his alters each have a character in the storyline.

There’s Dpr live (now going by Dabin and starting a new co.), Dpr Cream and the newest addition Dpr Artic!! Artic and Cream both have one very short album out (Creams own discography is so small you could watch both in the same video haha) and are mainly producers! While Live has a wider discography of maybe 2 eps 3 albums? not including singles :) would love for you to check them out 💜

Woozi is also in SVT, he was in another Suchwita episode w Yoongi, a lot of people call them twins or doplegangers bc they look alike and they both produce music. SVT is self produced and also have a big hand in writing lyrics which i know is something you rlly like. i think it would be cool to check out a few of their songs :)
